I Can Claim Daily Rewards - Chapter 216: Escape Under the Rain of Bullets
Other than Cedrick, there were four soldiers escorting the president and his assistant. They surrounded the two as they moved down the building using the stairs.
“Commander Cedrick, are you sure that this path is safe?” Manuel Chavez nervously asked. He was worried that the enemies were waiting for them downstairs.
Cedrick remained calm as he replied. “There is no need to be worried, Mr. President. My subordinates have already secured our route. As long as we can leave this building, you guys will be safe.”
Manuel Chavez was still anxious even after hearing his words. He had gotten some death threats before, but it was the first time he had experienced this kind of situation. It was like a plot of an action movie.
Cedrick led the group down the stairs. He was holding a rifle in his hands, looking incredibly focused.
Cedrick pressed his communicator and uttered. “We are going down with the VIPs. Is the route clear?”
“Negative! There are hostiles at the exits and we are currently engaging them!”
Cedrick frowned upon hearing this. He didn’t expect that Brigadier General Antonio’s soldiers were actually so good in battle. They could even hold back his men who were once part of the Special Forces. “Hold the line! We need to get out of this place before more hostiles come!”
“Roger that! We will cover your retreat, but you have to act quickly sir!”
“Affirmative!” Cedrick’s expression turned serious. He stared at the acting president and said. “Mr. President, no matter what happens, you need to get inside the blue car. Keep your head down at all times.”
Manuel Chavez nervously nodded his head. “Understood.”
Cedrick turned his gaze to his men and said. “Let’s go!”
One of his subordinates went ahead to scout the route, while the other three formed a triangle with the acting president and his assistant at the center of their formation. Meanwhile, Cedrick moved further ahead of them to act as the vanguard.
They could already hear the gunshots downstairs and it was becoming more intense as they got closer to the exit.
Ratatatatata!
Ratatatatata!
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Manuel Chavez covered his head with his arms, while his assistant also bravely shielded him using his body.
Manuel Chavez didn’t dare lift his head, afraid that a stray bullet would blow his head off.
“Mr. President, we’re almost at the exit!” His assistant’s shaky voice drifted into his ears. Manuel Chavez was already out of breath after running all the way down the building and he could no longer utter a word. He only let out an ‘mn’ sound to acknowledge his assistant’s words.
“We’re almost there! Protect the VIPs!” They heard Cedrick’s stern voice as soon as they reached the lowest floor.
The four soldiers formed a square to shield the acting president and his assistant. Meanwhile, Cedrick remained to cover their retreat.
Ratatatatatatatata!
Ratatatatatatatata!
Manuel Chavez didn’t know what was going on. He kept his eyes on their path and only the intense gunshots kept ringing on his head.
Suddenly, he felt that someone had grabbed him to the side and when he raised his head, he saw six people shooting at them. He saw the four soldiers blocking them with their bodies while engaging the enemies in a close-range gunfight.
Manuel Chavez could barely run. He was already tired after all that had happened. He suddenly stumbled and lost his footing, making him fall to the ground.
“Mr. President, follow me.” Manuel Chavez heard the voice of the soldier as the guy picked him up from the ground. He also heard his assistant shouting, asking if he was fine.
The soldier took him out of the building amidst the crossfire. He felt a sharp pain in his leg, but Manuel Chavez still managed to run together with the soldier.
He didn’t know how much time had passed, but they had finally escaped the most dangerous moment. He saw a blue car on the other side of the street and there were soldiers waiting for them. There was also a medical personnel among them.
“I think I’m shot.” Manuel Chavez said as he lowered his head to look at his leg. The left side of his pants was covered in blood. It was only at this moment did the pain started to register. He groaned as he leaned on the blue car.
The medical personnel inspected his wound and said to him. “Please get inside the car first, Mr. President. It’s not yet safe here.”
Manuel Chavez took a deep breath. He looked around and saw the soldier who protected him along the way. The man had wounds on his shoulder and legs. His left arm was also bleeding, but he didn’t even let out a groan. When the soldier noticed the president’s gaze, he asked. “Are you alright, Mr. President?”
Manuel Chavez felt ashamed of himself. This man was more hurt than him, but the first thing he did was ask if he was fine. He shook his head head and said. “I’m fine, but you don’t look okay to me.”
To his surprise, the soldier merely smiled at him. “This is nothing. Please enter the vehicle first, Mr. President. We will take care of things here.”
Manuel Chavez sighed in his heart. This was a tough man. “Alright. You guys take care.”
The medical personnel helped him get inside the vehicle. Upon entering, he saw his assistant lying on a stretcher. A soldier was bandaging the wound on his shoulder.
When his assistant saw him, he heaved a sigh of relief. “It’s a good thing that you’re safe, sir!”
Manuel Chavez immediately came to his side and inspected his wound. “How is he?” He asked the soldier who was providing first aid on his assistant.
“Don’t worry, Mr. President. He will be fine.” Answered the soldier.
Manuel Chavez was relieved to hear this.
“Mr. President, please allow me to bandage your wound.” The medical personnel said.
“Alright.” .
They could still hear the gunshots from the building as the vehicle drove away. Manuel Chavez thought about Cedrick who led their escape and the soldiers who covered their retreat. To ensure their safety, those people didn’t even hesitate to put their lives on the line. He was both grateful and worried about their safety.

Cedrick hid behind a pillar while reloading his gun.
Ratatatatata!
The enemies shot the pillar he was hiding, causing some fragments of the wall to fall off.
Cedrick remained calm under this attack. After reloading his “Sir, the VIPs are now out of danger. We are already 500 meters away from the building.” He heard a report on the radio.
Weapon, he calculated the position of the enemy based on the sound of the gunshots. He then quickly aimed his rifle and took a couple of shots.
Bang! Bang! Bang! Bang!
Cedrick didn’t bother to look if he had hit someone. He rolled on the ground and changed his position.
“Sir, the VIPs are now out of danger. We are already 500 meters away from the building.” He heard a report on the radio.
Hearing this, Cedrick pressed on his communicator and said. “Let’s go! Our task is done here!”
There was no need for them to stay. Their objective was to rescue the president and now that he was safe, they could pull out of the area.
“Roger!”
“Roger that!”
“Yes, sir!”

“What did you say?!” Senator Louie’s face darkened when he heard the Brigadier General’s report.
The old general lowered his head. He sent his elite team to capture Manuel Chavez, but they failed. According to the report of his men, twenty-two people from the elite unit were even killed. He knew that the acting president’s security detail wasn’t capable of this so he guessed that it was the doing of Lieutenant General Rivera’s people. “Senator, Lieutenant General Rivera’s people have intervened. It was outside of our expectations-”
“Enough!” Senator Louie’s face was dark and gloomy. They had planned this thing for a long time, but they failed on the first step. It made him extremely angry. “I don’t want to hear your excuses! Do we still have-”
Bang! Bang! Bang!
Suddenly, they heard gunshots outside, making them surprised.
Senator Louie stood up in shock, while the Brigadier General took out his gun and opened a small gap in the curtain of the window to see the situation. “They are here!” He uttered in a stern voice.
Senator Louie panicked upon hearing this. “Why are they here?! F*ck!” He grabbed his head and lost his composure.
“You need to calm down, senator! Let’s get out of here! My men should be able to hold them down for a while!” Brigadier General Antonio grabbed the shaking senator and pulled him out of the office.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
“What’s going on out there? Tell me the situation!” The old general contacted his men.
“Sir, we will hold them off! You should escape! We can’t tie them down for- Bang!”
The old general heard a gunshot that was followed by a dull thud that sounded like someone had collapsed on the floor. His expression fell as he held the communication device.
