I Can Hear Your Thoughts But It’s Not Like I’m Telling You Or Anything - Chapter 1
Hey, how’s it going! Thanks a lot for taking the time to check out my novel! To keep it short, since you’re in for the ride, I’ll go over the 3 things you need to know to read the story and not get confused about the format!
1) On their own, quote marks (” “) indicate dialogue, while apostrophes (‘ ‘) are used to quote someone or something (like a past dialogue/thought). These can be interchangeable depending on the situation (e.g. something quoted in somebody’s heard thoughts will be indicated by quote marks (” “) )
As for the thoughts Taichi hears, these will be indicated by apostrophes (‘ ‘) within brackets [ ]. Anything else within these will follow the rule above.
If neither of these two is present, that means Taichi is acting as the narrator, unless stated otherwise within the chapter.
2) Within brackets [ ], apostrophes (‘) indicate the thoughts Taichi hears, while quote marks (“) indicate dialogue or part of it.
3) This novel contains Japanese honorifics, so make sure you’re a bit acquainted with them to fully grasp their meanings within the story!
4) CAPS DON’T REALLY HAVE A ROLE other than to add to the comedic aspect of a scene.
5) Last but not least, asterisks (***) indicate a completely new scene to the chapter that happens days later or earlier than the previous scene(s).
These all might seem a bit confusing, but I’m sure you’ll understand them perfectly when they appear in a chapter! If you still can’t understand something, don’t hesitate to ask!
Now, without further ado, happy reading!
If you have any advice to help improve how the novel looks, I’d really appreciate it! I’m still new to the site, so there might be a lot of things I haven’t found out yet! Huge thanks in advance!
