I Cant Miss - Chapter 116 Military
ESPN had gotten news of these developments and had become breaking news that the best player in college basketball was being shipped off to the military. A lot of people view this as a target towards black folks due to a lot of black young men being forced into the military but the news tried to cover it up by saying that they were recruiting not only black folks but everybody else. The internet went crazy and said that they’re taking the best college basketball player and that’s going to ruin his future. They were saying I probably won’t come back the same and would probably die out there like the rest of the military that were fighting the war. After a while, I stopped watching the TV and went to focus on getting ready for my next big adventure. The day of the agreements to leave finally came, everybody was crying as a whole city had come to say goodbye due to my large fan base. I had to say my goodbyes at school because I didn’t want everybody to know where I lived.I finally boarded my vehicle as I went on my way to the fort or so they called it, it was quite a long journey but I finally arrived there. I had cut my hair because I didn’t want the barbers over there to cut it since they always rush things and probably wouldn’t cut it as well as I would want it, but I was officially bald at 6-2, brown skin, handsome face with a bald head.Surprisingly I still look good even without any hair. I reported in and decided not to bring any kind of luggage or anything with me because I knew that they would provide all that for us and if anything I would just pay to buy new equipment. There was a long line for people who were getting their haircuts and I had no choice but to join the line. After waiting for a few minutes it was finally my turn and when they saw that my head was already bald they just let me through.I had scored pretty high in my ASVAB so choosing a job came pretty easy for me. I decided to go with the engineering job as it was something I’ve never done before and it wasn’t like I was ever going to use it but just having that background would give me insight on the building of the business I had going on. After finishing everything up we went to take an oath.We went into a big hall with high ceilings, it reminded me of a church. When everybody got in we started the process of taking an oath, as I raised my right hand and repeated the Oath of Enlistment to become a full-fledged member of the U.S. Military. The Oath is led by a commissioned officer and always performed in front of an American flag. During the Oath, every service member vowed to support and defend the Constitution of the United States. It’s important to note that the time between being “sworn in” and Basic Training could be as short as two days or as long as a year.It also varies based on job assignment and branch of Service, but since I was told my contract was only for a year I was sure my situation would have been a little different. I and four other guys were pulled to the side as we went into a private room to discuss what the army had planned for us.The officer in charge of our special training was called Bob. He was a 6’4 tall white guy with a serious face on. “Hi guys my name is Bob but to you guys, I’ll be known as Sir Bob or yes sir Bob whenever I speak to you, you respond by saying yes sir Bob and that’s all I want to hear”.I smirked when I heard this and he had caught on to it as he said” oh you think something’s funny why don’t you step right on up here and show me what you got” I approached him standing face to face with him. Bob said, “oh you are a tough guy now huh let’s see how you do in hand-to-hand combat”.We both made our stance as he went in to grab me in order to flip me around but I avoided the grab as I did a roundhouse kick to his gut. When I hit him it felt like I was hitting a rock it had no kind of effect as he grinned at me and grabbed my leg swing me around and tossed me.I time froze as I settled in and did a flip in order to act like I had landed on my feet after I unfroze time everybody saw that I had not fallen on my back but I had easily avoided the throw by doing a flip and landed on my feet. The other guy’s started cheering as Bob got even angrier and said” so you still acting like a tough guy huh I guess we’re going to have to keep this thing going all day to see where you guys really stand” he told me to return back to the line as he summoned the next person to face off against him.I guess he was measuring our strength as he easily defeated the other four, they were wondering how I was able to conquer Bob so easily. Bob called me back up again, I found this funny because I was tired of embarrassing this guy and didn’t want any bad or hard feelings between us but he kept pushing it.This time he approached me by throwing small jabs and trying to connect to my body but I easily avoided them and threw in my own jabs. This guy was eating up my attacks due to his hard body. We weren’t getting anywhere as we continued to fight for about an hour non-stop until he started to get tired and he said: “wow are you sure you’re not a ground fighter because you got the energy of a bull and speed like a rabbit”.Everybody started laughing at this as I was able to overcome our instructor. He dismissed us as he told us to go get ready we’re going to be leaving the state in order to get some special training for our elite division.
