Chapter 12: Mei Ling’s Worth
Its rewind time.
One of the assassins regained his composure and smirked. “You may be formidable, but not invincible.” In one fluid motion, he lashed out and grabbed Mei Ling who had just gotten out of her room in a chokehold. Pressing a sword against her throat, he sneered. “Make one move and she dies.”
Chen Mo’s eyes narrowed as he appraised the situation coolly. “You would slaughter your own brother?”
“Huh! What are you talking about? Don’t test me, boy!”
In a blur, the assassin’s blade flashed out. But instead of the gurgling scream he expected, the blade plunged into his comrade’s chest with a meaty thunk. The man went slack in his grip.
“No! Brother! What have I done?” the assassin wailed, dropping the lifeless body in horror.
“You! What did you do?”
He questioned Chen Mo in an angry and trembling voice.
All color drained from confused assassin’s face as he looked between his slain comrade and Chen Mo.
“Are you okay?”
Chen Mo asked softly addressing Mei Ling whom he comfortably held in his arms.
“I was so scared, I really thought you’d abandon me”
“I’d never abandon you, you’re my disciple after all”
He patted her head comfortingly as he let her down from his arms.
Then Chen Mo’s grim visage melted into a knowing smile. “I did not move. You simply stabbed the wrong man.”
“I merely swapped their positions through the Space Transfer technique. You didn’t seriously think that I could only use one spatial technique, did you?” Chen Mo explained with a shake of his head. “Judge not so quickly what you do not comprehend.”
The baffled assassin stood in stunned silence, eyes wide with dawning realization. This boy had outplayed them with but a thought, demonstrating powers that bent the very fabric of reality itself. They were hopeless from the very beginning, devastatingly outmatched.
Just as the assassin was contemplating what to do, Chen Mo stretched out his palm towards him.
Before the assassin could look up, he activated his technique.
“Spatial Exile”
A dark space vortex opened up and sucked him inside, disappearing into the void.
Chen Mo fell on his knee but Mei Ling managed to hold him.
“Are you okay?”
She asked in a concerned voice.
“I’m okay, just a little tired. You should rest too, tomorrow we’ll go to recruit disciples for our sect.” He spoke calmly as he lifted himself up and walked to his room as the broken buildings fixed themselves through Rasiel’s power.
‘Although my law of space doesn’t consume much spiritual energy, my current body isn’t ready to handle the power of space. I’ll need to breakthrough a couple more times before I can use it freely. Before then, I’ll just stick to using it just for teleportation’
[Report] – [All damaged parts have been restored]
‘Thanks. I wouldn’t want the sect disciples to think that our place is poor’
‘Hey Rasiel, I still have the saber I collected earlier during the fight with the Mei Clan people, right?’
[Report] – [Yes, I thought you might need it so I stored it using the [Storage] function along with the recovery pills and the spirit stones]
‘Good, I wanted to use it earlier as a weapon for my disciples but it’s a cursed weapon. I want you to purify it and use its blueprints as a basis to craft high-level spiritual weapons for my core disciples, mid-level spiritual weapons for the inner disciples, and low-level spiritual weapons for the in-name disciples.’
…
The next day.
Chen Mo wakes up and stretches his muscles.
It was the first time he had had such good sleep; he had always been having a hard time sleeping ever since he was young but now that he had Rasiel, he could easily swap consciousness with him anytime he wanted to rest and Rasiel would wake him up when needed.
He looked out the window and saw the new renovated sect Rasiel had been working on all night as well as the weapons he had developed and stored in his storage space and thought that Rasiel was really useful. As long as he had spiritual power, Rasiel could run infinitely.
Today was especially a nice day since it was the day that the sect buildings would cease to be just decorations but rather true sect buildings with disciples in them. Chen Mo thought to himself that although he had thought of creating a sect to deal with the Heavenly Palace, it wasn’t his actual desire, and neither was it the desire of the previous Chen Mo.
‘It seems that there’s something inside me that really wants this, does it have something to do with why I transmigrated here? Well, I guess it doesn’t matter. As long as I become stronger, everything will reveal itself to me’ ViiSiit n𝒐velb𝒊/n(.)c/(𝒐)m for l𝒂test 𝒏𝒐vels
He dismissed these thoughts as he walked out to the courtyard.
…
In the courtyard.
Mei Ling was busy swinging her sword.
She’d been at it for at least two hours now. She thought to herself that although she had great spiritual roots and high cultivation, she had no combat powers.
Her clan had never taught her any fighting techniques and now that she thought about it, it made sense, she was just a sacrifice for the demon ancestor so why would they bother wasting resources on her.
She thought that now that Chen Mo had shown her kindness and taken her in, she had to show her worth or else he would abandon her. She didn’t believe that he’d really go against the whole entire Mei clan for her sake.
She also didn’t believe that he’d take care of her for no reason. She thought to herself that he had just taken her in because he saw his friend Yin Mei in her, if Yin Mei managed to recover her body, he would have no use for her.
But it won’t remain that way, if she could just become stronger, if she could prove herself…
Before she could continue her trail of thought, she saw a white towel in front of her.
“You’re working hard, did something happen?”
Chen Mo asked her as he handed her the towel.
“Nothing, I just thought that I’d become stronger to avenge my parents”
She spoke as she wiped the sweat off her body using the towel.
Chen Mo held her in his arms and hugged her tightly,
“You don’t have to think too much about it. Since you’re a disciple of my protagonist sect, your problems are my problems.”
He spoke in a comforting tone as he patted her head and she hugged him too, tears streaming down her cheeks.
Chen Mo thought that although he couldn’t read minds, he knew exactly what she was thinking. Although that type of mindset would give her motivation to work harder, it could sometimes develop into a mental demon.
“Since you’re still worried about them, how about we go wipe them out right now”
“What?”
She looked up at Chen Mo thinking she had heard wrong but he just smiled back at her, “You don’t want to?”
“No! I want to!” She spoke confidently as she wiped her tears using her hands.
Chen Mo thought that although it’d be hard to deal with a rank three sect, they would always come to find trouble with him and he needed to get rid of them quickly. The other reason was that he needed to get some reputation if he wanted to recruit disciples, and destroying a rank three sect would do just that. Of course the real reason was that he wanted to get to the Soul Formation realm as fast as he could.
