I Crossed the Line Without Knowing It Was the Male Lead - Chapter 3
When I waved hand, my mother who found me, smiled brightly.
When I got closer and stood on the carpet holding my mother’s hand, all the nobles, including the wives, turned their eyes to me.
When I saw their contorted faces, I shrugged because I felt like I was doing something great.
I raised one end of the dress I was wearing in front of the aristocrats standing blankly at me and greeted them formally.
“Hello. I am Frill Brentio. I thank you all, our distinguished guests, who came today to celebrate my dear mother’s special day.”
When my introduction was over, the guests had bewildered expressions on their faces.
Contrary to the rumors that she is weak, her healthy appearance is also surprising…
‘And isn’t she too beautiful for a child?’
The wives, who had been in high spirits a while ago, disappeared with a white face.
There were buzzing voices everywhere as the party continued.
Both her parents became very busy since a lot of people wants to talk to them.
Taking advantage of that, I just looked back at the desserts.
It was rare to have the opportunity to eat as much as I could without the restraints of my health-conscious parents.
Chocolate-flowing cookies, sugar-coated cookies, and tarts topped with delicious fruits……
Usually, Brentio’s desserts are already high in level, but it was evident that the chef and her father gave their best to support her mother’s birthday.
I don’t know how much I ate anymore, so I just took a juice from the attendants after filling my stomach with desserts.
Slowly leaning against the wall, I could now see my surroundings a little better.
Shall I take a look for my husband candidates?
Raki Kenschner, Vitone Elybrin, Kei Ritornello, and more.
In general, they are the usual children of prominent families, but as I said before, what I value is not like that.
I don’t want anything in particular……
Or maybe just a sexy nose and provocative jaw line?
It would also be okay if he was a man who is calm and will only look at me, was friendly normally yet sly at some times, and the one who loses during the day but wins at night. (T/N: What?)
But I felt it from the moment I ate…
…They were basically afraid of me.
At first, I already realized that they’re being vigilant of me, but I didn’t expect them to run away.
The fact that my father is that Gerard was practically a restraining order for the children.
It’s already a common occurrence to stop a crying child by saying ‘Stop or else Sir Gerard will come to catch you’, so perhaps this reaction is not unusual.
However, as I was left alone, the eyes of the adults were focused on me.
I didn’t know it at first when I was eating… But when I came to my senses, I find it a little burdensome, so when the song changed, I went outside.
Unlike in the party hall, the cool air gently brushed the surface of my face.
I munched the cookies I brought with me and enjoyed the feeling of freedom to the fullest.
At that moment, a roaring noise rang out.
I think it’s at the end of the hallway…
“It’s this guy. Take him right now!”
A desperate cry answering the chief servant’s loud yelling echoed through the hallway several times.
Judging by his youthful voice, he’s about the same age as me.
As I walked, wondering what was going on, I saw a jar scattered and shattered in the middle of the hallway.
The culprit already had several people surrounding him.
“What’s going on?”
The chief servant, who took notice of me, rushed to my front.
“He broke the jar that was here. He must have been trying to steal it.”
The perpetrator, whom they called the thief, was a small child.
The shaking body of the child who was caught by a servant was just slightly bigger than me.
If he had planned to steal, he would have brought jewelry that would cost more money than a jar.
The people of Brentio tended to be overly loyal to household affairs. I didn’t mean to blame them because that’s what they were supposed to do.
However, it seemed desperate for this child that I could handle it with a word.
“Release him.”
“Yes? Young miss, but……”
The child’s eyes widened when he heard the title of ‘Young miss’ and turned towards me.
“I’ll take care of the jar, so everyone go back.”
The chief servant, who had a moment of difficulty, cleaned up the fragments and disappeared immediately.
I don’t like being too nosy… I can tell my parents about this but still, I dealt with this matter myself instead.
Old clothes with scorched marks, untidy and jagged hair, old shoes that don’t suit the party at all…
At first glance, the child looked nothing but a commoner.
In Brentio, this child’s life can be the price of an ornamental pot.
In the hallway where only the two of us were left, we looked at each other silently.
Meanwhile, the child’s gray face slowly regained color and his long hair fluttered in the wind.
The moment his face, that I couldn’t see properly was exposed because of his hair, I stiffened in an instant.
‘What kind of boy is this… pretty!’
I’m pretty too, but he’s seriously way more pretty.
If he’s not called pretty, then what will be the definition of beauty?
The child’s first impression was at a level that would shock everyone.
Brilliant silver hair, which is rare in the Empire, and distinct facial features at a young age with his cute lips.
It feels a little different from me, who has an arrogant image, but it was clear that if he grew up like this, he would surely conquer the empire.
The child did not avoid my gaze even though his and my eyes met head-on.
‘Oh, look at this?’
A child who doesn’t know that my father is Gerard…
Even so, there was no other child in the Empire who looked at me so openly.
His great beauty… It’s dazzling as I keep looking at it, so it takes time to get used to it.
But I still want to see it…
I admit. He’s seriously prettier, okay?
I acknowledge that.
The child had an enchanting beauty to the point that it hurts her mouth to describe the least.
She was in the process of sublimating the child’s ragged clothes into a beauty that was very different from hers.
Pretending to have a staring contest with him, I secretly recalled the suit in my mind.
A cute suit with rich frills and ribbons…
And if I push up his hair in a pomade style……
‘It will be cute.’
‘This is driving me crazy. Really.’
As for the color, cobalt blue, the ‘color of the year’, would be perfect with the child’s blue eyes.
Of course, I died without seeing the color of the year, which was selected just before my sudden death.
Come to think of it, the blue eyes of the child was filled with my image.
Suddenly, the child narrowed the distance between us by taking a few steps.
Now that I look at it, the trembling expression he had before already disappeared, and a proud kitten was standing in front of me.
“Take this for now.”
Heh, I didn’t expect him to say thank you, but… this is absurd.
In the hand the child held out proudly, there were several paper money.
Seeing the pockets poking out, it looked like he had taken out all of his fortune and gave it to me.
It was the first time I had ever seen a paper money in my hands.
Nobles did not use such small units of currency, so it was natural.
Is he going to pay for the jar with this?
For some reason, I smiled and looked at the bills quietly.
Perhaps he misunderstood my gaze, the child hurriedly added.
“I didn’t mean to steal.”
Who says you are a thief?
‘Ah right, that’s what the servants said earlier.’
I was about to say sorry, but the kid cut it off.
“I am not a thief.”
The wretched expression on his face almost made me laugh, but the child continued.
“I will pay you back gradually.”
He had a very dignified attitude for a child who had been in an accident, and when a third person saw it, they would probably start to think I was the debtor.
I wanted to tease him… but I decided not to do so.
It was because of the trembling arms of the child.
There were quite a few fine muscles in the child’s arm.
What the hell is this kid doing…
‘Why do you have such fine muscles?’
I look at the money in my palms, and when I lifted my head, I see the proud cat shivering.
“Enough. This is enough.”
The child’s face flushed red as he patted the bill he just gave me and smiled.
The child looked at me, twitching his lips as if he had anything to say.
Maybe he’s just trying to say thank you.
But I didn’t hear it until the end.
“Jeff! We have to go now.”
The boy nodded and walked away to tend someone’s call, and apparently, his name was Jeff.
Until the very end, she had the child looking back at her and holding me in his blue eyes.
‘Jeff’
Seeing that the name commonly used among common people and does not have a title, it seems that he did not come as a guest as I expected.
The person who called him and took him at the end of the hallway, seemed to be the child’s mother.
And she doesn’t look so well.
After the party was over, I returned to my daily life, and I was immersed in drawing.
A pretty plausible inspiration came to mind and I was excited.
Of course, all these secret work was done in the Atelier.
Before, she’s hiding it because of her advanced skill, but now, there’s one more reason to keep it a secret.
These sketches of Jeff shouldn’t be caught.
Yes. The muse of all my inspiration was, funnily, Jeff, whom I had only seen for a few minutes.
Jeff’s face lingered in my mind clearly and I wasn’t able to forget it.
Every time, the sketchbook was line with his angelic face and several suits that matches it.
In my mind, I wanted him to try on all these clothes.
The moment I turned the sketchbook to the next page to appease my disappointment, the paper bills fell from.
This was the money I got from Jeff that day!!
When I picked up the bills, it smelled like Jeff… no it smelled like dishwasher.
According to what I found out, this amount of money can only be earned by a commoner, working full-time in a few days.
Jeff’s mom, with her neatly braided hair whom I saw in our employment brochure, seemed to a worker who came to wash the party’s dishes.
And she doesn’t look well so she must’ve came here with a sick body.
If I had known that they’re in a situation desperate for money, I wouldn’t have accepted it.
Should I give this money back to Jeff?
Though I think that wouldn’t be a good idea. He still probably has quite a bit of pride.
It would be better to pretend to have an accidental meeting with him than to go there directly…
But as an aristocratic young lady, it was rare for me to overlap with commoners.
If I had known this would happen, I would have been more clingy that day.
At the time of self-blame, the unnoticed sound of the clock rang through the Atelier.
Upon returning to the mansion, the smell of freshly baked bread and cream soup tickled the tip of my nose.
Dad, as always, tenderly cut the bread into bite-sized pieces and put it on my plate.
As I mumbled and dipped pieces of it in my soup, my mother secretly approached the seat next to me.
And asked,
“Among the kids who attended this time, was there anyone you like?”
