I Deserve A Second Chance - Chapter 273
Shao Yan had traveled to many places before and she believed that each place had its own charm and specialties.
Including Singapore.
She was very impressed with the regularities and mannerism of the people. Every person she encountered was so warm and kind to her. The streets were so orderly and clean, it actually reminded her of Japan. The public transportation was so reliable, she actually trusted the schedule listed in her phone, down to the minutes!
The food selections were even more amazing. Singapore is a hub of many different cultures that merged together, so she could easily find foods from other Southeast Asia countries here!
And Shao Yan was loving the city even more.
———-
Since it was her first day, Shao Yan decided to not travel far, and stick around her hotel area. The hotel that Li Xiqing had booked for them was located right in the heart of the city.
She consulted the map on her phone and decided to explore.
Luckily, Shao Yan had done her homework before. Together with Qi Ling who had traveled frequently to this country, Shao Yan had listed down the places that she wanted to see.
Her first stop was to find the traditional breakfast. She walked for about ten minutes, and finally found a place that resembled the famous giant local fruit, the durians. The building was actually two rounded spaces with glasses and shades all over the surface, making it seem as if the building was covered in thorns. In the local language, ‘durian’ means ‘thorn’.
She excitedly strolled around the area, where she could also see a huge open space that people usually used as a performance center. Qi Ling told her that the breakfast place should be around the corner of the building and she found it easily.
Shao Yan looked at the decent amount of people who were already lining up. When it was her turn, she ordered steamed bread with kaya jam, two half boiled eggs and a cup of hot milk tea.
As she ate, she could not stop admiring the flavors in her mouth.
‘Ling! The bread is so soft! I’m in love with kaya jam,’ Her fingers flew around the touchscreen, typing messages to report to Qi ling of her findings.
‘Whoa! Ling, the eggs are also so delicious! I can’t believe I have been missing this in my life!’ She continued typing after she ate more of her food.
And thus, that was what Shao Yan did the whole afternoon. Whenever she found something delicious or interesting, she would first report it to Qi Ling, and then she would send the same messages to Li Xiqing.
What a fruitful day!
———-
“Where are you?”
“Just arrived at Clarke Quay MRT Station. What about you?”
“I’m arriving soon, I’ll see you at the exit, choose the exit towards The Central mall, alright?”
“En, I’ll see you soon!” and then she hung up.
Shao Yan looked around her surroundings and found the exit that Li Xiqing had mentioned earlier and then started to walk towards it.
When she exited the MRT station, she saw him right away. Li Xiqing was standing in front of a burger restaurant. Both hands inside his pants pocket, scanning around the people around him.
She skipped over with a big smile.
Li Xiqing spotted her immediately as well.
Her face was blushed in healthy pink as she had been spending her whole day outside. Her hair was dancing along the wind; flowing happily in the air as she approached him.
“Have you been waiting long?” She said breathless as she stood next to him.
Li Xiqing lifted his hand, his fingers threaded her forehead gently.
“Are you feeling too hot? It was very sunny earlier,” His fingertips slowly brushed her fringe before he draped his arm on her shoulders and pulled her closer, “Let’s quickly go inside the mall and cool down.”
———-
“The mall” that Li Xiqing mentioned was actually a building that served its purpose as a shopping center, that came with a twist.
He only used the building to cool themselves down before they kept on walking until they exited from another door. The exit was opened up to a fleet of stairs that connected them to an outdoor space.
And when she saw it, it took her breath away.
Alleys on bars and cafes were spread in front of her. A loud, energetic music came from every shop. Many people were crowding all of the places; most of them prefered to sit outside albeit the humid evening.
“This place is especially hyped at night,” Li Xiqing spoke directly to her ears, his arm was still around her shoulders. The blaring of music made him raise his voice slightly so she could hear him, “Look above you!”
Shao Yan raised her head and looked around. She saw that along the alleys were all covered by canopies that lit up at night. The poles were installed to be so high up to make the space seem bigger and not crammed. The lights inside the panels kept changing colors from pink to purple, and then blue and white; creating an energetic scene to the surroundings.
Her eyes went round in surprise and amazement. This whole area was looking like a huge, gigantic spaceship.
“Since this place is dedicated to being an entertainment center and nightlife, that was why they installed the canopies,” He explained.
“Smart!” She added while nodding, “So the parties can continue, rain or shine.”
Their eyes met as they smiled at each other. “I brought you here because I figured we never really visited this kind of place in Shanghai,” Li Xiqing guided her to keep on walking, “And since we are tourists now, so, why not try a new experience?”
She nodded enthusiastically, “So, where are we going now?”
He looked down at her and grinned, “You’ll see soon!”
They kept on walking. Shao Yan noticed more of the places. The building was actually an old style architecture that was converted to add some modern flair. The structures looked like they were historical buildings dated from the 1800s.
She kept looking around in curiosity.
———-
The couple kept on walking around until they reached a quieter end. This side was more “civil” compared to the other parts. Shao Yan noticed this whole nightlife area was located next to a river. And from this side, she could see the whole area better. They were indeed old shophouses that were located by the quay.
She nodded silently and understood now. Hence, the name Clarke Quay.
Li Xiqing suddenly raised his arm and pointed far ahead of them, “We are here!”
Shao Yan returned her gaze back to the front of her and saw two metal tower poles standing tall in front of her.
In between the metal tower, there was something like a rope that connected the two poles together. And in the middle of the rope was a round, sphere shape. The sphere looked like it was dangling in between the towers by that rope.
As they walked closer, Shao Yan realized what it was. She paused on her tracks.
It was a reverse bungee!
The sphere that she saw from afar was actually a capsule that could sit three people inside. The capsule then would be catapulted from the ground up to the sky.
Li Xiqing saw how her lips were forming an “O” letter now as she looked speechless at the scene in front of her. He saw how she slowly turned her head to look at him and slowly enunciated.
“Don’t tell me.. That you want us.. to try that?” She pointed at the swing, “THAT?”
