I Deserve A Second Chance - Chapter 281
“So, how is your long distance relationship going?”
Qi Ling mumbled her questions with her mouth and was also chewing oranges at the same time.
Shao Yan carefully applied the nail polish on her nails. She did not bother to look up at Qi Ling, and instead kept on talking slowly.
“It’s good,” She paused to grab a cotton swab to clean the edge of her fingernails, “He makes sure to text me every morning on the way to work, and then we talk on the phone every night before sleep.”
Shao Yan had returned back to Shanghai earlier because of her work schedules. While Li Xiqing had to stay back along with Axel due to their business deal.
“If bing gu wigs gnow, yeah?”
Shao Yan scrunched her forehead, trying to figure out what she was talking about. She could not help to look up at Qi Ling now, “You should finish all of your oranges first. I can’t hear you clearly!”
Qi Ling finished her chewing, and tried again, “I said, it has been two weeks now.”
Shao Yan nodded before moving her attention back to her fingernails.
“Yes, but he said he will need to stay for a few more weeks.”
And as if she remembered something, Shao Yan looked up again, “But the problem is that, his parents will finish their Australia trip soon. And Xiqing told me that they will spend a few days in Shanghai before going back to the USA.”
“Oh!” Qi Ling drawled as she nodded her head, “To meet their daughter in law, huh!”
Shao Yan shrugged, “I guess.”
She bowed down her head and reached out to take another bottle of nail polish and uncapped it.
“Supposedly, they wanted to meet with Grandma and talk about the plan.”
Qi Ling jumped up from the sofa and rubbed both of her palms together, “Ooohhh! Bride Price and Dowry time. I love this part so much!”

Around the end of April, Father Li and Mother Li arrived back in Shanghai after spending a few weeks travelling across Australia and New Zealand.
Li Xiqing was still in Singapore with Axel, so Shao Yan and Mandy decided to go to the airport by themselves to pick The Li’s up.
“How are you doing, Sis?” Shao Yan asked when Mandy was settled in the passenger seat. Shao Yan was driving today.
Shao Yan took a quick glance at her stomach when Mandy was fastening her seat belt.
Mandy looked back at her, one hand slightly rubbing on her own stomach, “You can already see its bulging, huh?”
“Actually I feel fine. I am thankful that I don’t experience those horrible months that the articles were talking about. How would you be throwing up and queasy all the time… I’m glad my symptoms are mild.”
Shao Yan nodded and then pushed the button to start the engine.
“What’s actually great. What about cravings?”
“I have some, but nothing the delivery applications can’t handle,” Mandy giggled, “Luckily this kid is well behaved. Unlike the father.”
The traffic that day was smooth and clear. By the time they arrived at the airport, they saw Father Li and Mother Li had been waiting outside the gate for them.
Shao Yan quickly parked the car in front of them, and got down from the car.
“Uncle, Auntie, why are you standing here outside? It’s so hot!”
Mandy also stepped out to help carrying the luggage. Father Li quickly stopped her.
“What are you doing! You are pregnant, Xilin, don’t carry heavy stuff, just let Daddy take care of this,” He reached out his hands to take back the luggage from her hands.
Mother Li also scolded her for a while, before turning back to look at Shao Yan, “Don’t worry about us, Yan Yan, we only waited for five minutes, Xilin already texted us that both of you were five minutes away, so we figured it will be easier here.”
Shao Yan opened the trunk, and Father Li put their luggage at the back, “Go inside the car, all of you, I’m fine here.”
Mandy nodded before she opened the rear car door, and let Mother Li step inside the car.
———-
“Yan Yan, can you drive us to your Grandmother’s house? She is expecting us there.”
Shao Yan peeked from the rear mirror to answer Mother Li, “Hm? Are we not going back to the apartment first?”
Mother Li shook her head, “Your grandmother knew that we are arriving today, so she invited us over for dinner. We don’t have anything perishable in the luggage, so don’t worry. We can go there right away.”
Shao Yan nodded and turned on the air conditioner so Father Li and Mother Li would be comfortable in the back.
“Xilin, how was the doctor’s checkup today?”
Mandy was typing a text message in her phone to let Axel know that they had just picked up her parents and were going to meet Grandmother Wu now.
She hit the send button, and then turned her head around, “It was fine. Doctor said everything looks good and healthy. The test results also came back today; no infections or anything like that.”
“Yufeng and Xiqing are still tied up there?” Father Li chimed in.
Mandy nodded, “Their business deals ran into an issue. The other party refused to negotiate until they let him meet Amy.”
She burst into giggles, “Yufeng told them… go to hell!” Mandy finished her words by imitating Axel’s gruff voice.
“And then he swore if they touched his sister, Yufeng said he would make sure they all go bankrupt.”
Mandy chuckled for a while before adding, “Even though it’s their own home country, Yufeng was so brave to threaten them back, Mommy!”
“That young man is really Yumei’s ex-boyfriend?” Mother Li clicked her tongue, “Why so pathetic?”
Mandy nodded, “Ex-fiance actually.”
“That man messed up Yumei’s life and still has the guts to request to see her?” Mother Li huffed in anger, “Hmph!”
And then she folded her arms in front of her chest, ” Tell Yufeng to teach him a lesson properly. I’m pretty sure he has all The Chen family army there to back him up? Yufeng told your dad that he can’t wait to break that scum’s leg literally.”
Mother Li glanced to her side at Father Li who pretended that the scenery outside the car was more interesting.
“Your father even told him which area to break to not cause a lot of legal issues,” Mother Li whispered.
Mandy was surprised, her lips formed a beautiful perfect “O” as her eyes sparkled in joy.
“Whoa! Mother! I have never seen you this fierce, and yeah, of course! The Chen family also dispatched their …” Mandy paused her words to steal a quick peek at Shao Yan who was driving in quiet.
Mandy coughed lightly, “Dispatched their executives along to negotiate. Don’t worry, Mother. Yufeng has it all taken care of.”
Mandy waved her hand to signal them to close the subject.
