I Deserve A Second Chance - Chapter 288
The two women were walking along a glass transparent pathway towards their wedding hall. The afternoon sun was about to set, but everywhere around them was still bright.
“I used to cry myself to sleep during my heartbreak, but I am blessed to have his voice to calm me down every time I sleep now,” Shao Yan stopped on her track and faced a double door in front of her.
“And now I dare to dream big. Now, I can face my own insecurities, and I can have the courage to be greedy.”
Shao Yan paused, before she suddenly giggled.
“What?” Qi Ling giggled along with her, “What do you remember now?”
“One year ago, when I was cleaning up his clothes during Spring cleaning, there was one of his suit pants that I recognized. It was stuffed in the corner and left forgotten, so I thought Xiqing wanted to throw them away.”
“But I could not remember where I had seen it. It was missing a suit jacket. And I spent the whole day around his apartment trying to look for it, but I could not find it.”
Shao Yan turned her head slightly to glance at Qi Ling.
“Did you remember when you just came back, and I was reorganizing my winter clothes, with you dancing to the BTS songs all afternoon?”
Qi ling chuckled as she remembered, “Of course! I repeated their whole album that day and we were only talking about food and clothes! How can I forget?”
Shao Yan nodded, “Did you know why I suddenly rushed outside at the time?”
Qi Ling shook her head, “What is it?”
———-
Shao Yan turned her head back to the front and faced the white double door in front of her.
“It was because I found the missing suit jacket. It was in my possession after all. So I could not wait to prove that they were a pair. I rushed back to his apartment that day.”
Qi Ling waved her hand and clicked her tongue, “Tsk! How is that weird? His clothes at your place, it’s totally normal.”
Shao Yan dropped her head a little as she smiled helplessly, “I always thought that the first time I met Li Xiqing was when he helped me when I was bullied in San Francisco pier.”
“But I was wrong.”
“He saved my life three times, Ling Ling. The second one was San Francisco pier, and the third one was when he decided to love me.”
“But then I realized. The very first time he saved me was when I was crying like a crazy woman in New York.”
She sighed, “It was raining heavily, and I was crying my heart out in the middle of the street after I found out Liwei was cheating on me. I was devastated, I wanted to kill myself. I just felt lost and unwanted and unloved. I was in despair.”
“At the time, a man walked over and dragged me back to the street side. He gave his umbrella to me. He also gave his jacket to me.”
“And it was him,” Shao Yan glanced at Qi Ling, “It was Li Xiqing.”
———-
A slight tingling sensation went through Qi Ling’s mind as realization hit her.
A tremor of amazement fleeted in her eyes when she stared back at Shao Yan who was patiently waiting for her response.
“No…. wayyy!” Qi Ling suddenly wailed.
“You’re saying that you two met that many years ago?” Her loud voice echoed in the empty hallway.
Shao Yan kept her gaze on her and nodded wordlessly.
“What a fate! Are you kidding me?”
Shao Yan chuckled softly, “No, I am not joking. After I found out, I knew right then and there, that this red thread between me and this man has already been fated together. And no matter what, we will always meet each other at the end. No matter how late we started this to begin with.”
Qi Ling rubbed her arms slightly. All of a sudden, she felt cold air blanketed her, “You’re scaring me here. Did you tell him about this?”
Shao Yan google again and shook her head, “Of course not. It will be our little secret.”
She turned her head back to the front, “I like knowing that he has been a part of my life for a while. And how the twist of fate just kept dancing around us. How we will always find each other at the end.”
“It feels like a movie. Everything is just too good to be true.”
———-
A slow intro of violin was heard, and then the double door in front of her was opened. Another piano accompaniment was heard and together, it started to synchronize with the violin.
“Let me give you a peek of what I wrote for my marriage vow later?” Shao Yan winked at Qi Ling.
Shao Yan cleared her throat and started to say softly.
“You are my home, You are sanctuary. My safe happy place, my family.”
“You are my rock, you are my strength. You are my lighthouse, and I know you will always guide my steps everywhere I go.”
“The whole time we have spent together has been the most amazing thing that ever happened in my life. And I never regret ever meeting you. I never regret ever loving you.”
“Li Xiqing, you are my everything.”
When the door was fully opened up for her, Shao Yan slowly turned her face back to the front again.
In front of her, at the end of the pathway that was covered with white rose petals, stood the man that she had been calling “Husband” for a year.
And then the wedding march song started.
Li Xiqing was standing with his back against the dusk sun. The transparent floor to ceiling window behind him showcased the amazing view of the Bali sea. The clear blue water met with the soft white clouds. And all around the wedding hall was lush greeneries that gave the same sense of calm.
“Ling Ling,” Shao Yan smiled at the handsome man who stood tall, waiting for her. Through her veil, she saw him smiling back at her.
“I am glad that I took the second chance when it was offered to me.”
“And a second chance is all I need to get this oasis bestowed to me.”
“A second chance … for both of us.”
Was the last words Qi Ling heard before she witnessed her best friend take her steps towards her husband.
The golden silhouette around her body emitted all of her confidence and love towards the man.
Towards her happiness.
Her only one true love.
