I Didn’t Save You To Get Proposed To - Chapter 11
Mela smiled and brought it up as everyone walked away.
“I’d heard you were quite active. You were exploiting topography and tactics. I had no idea it would be like this in two months.”
“Neither did I expect that.” With a shallow sigh, Ixion said.
“In fact, this information comes from Princess Elsia.”
“Yes?”
Even Aiden was taken aback by the words.
Ixion kept his cool when Aiden opened his eyes wide.
“I was only half confident at first, but everything worked out in the end. It would have been difficult to win this quickly without such high-level information.”
“Ah… Really… She’s a wonderful person.”
Aiden gave a puzzled look.
“She’s smarter than I thought, uhm, and more goal-oriented. She’ll go all the way if she makes up her mind. You can tell from the way she walked across the banquet hall.”
Mela unintentionally opened her mouth and admired.
“Oh, really…… It reminds me of a romance novel I read in my teenage years. It’s a sad story about a girl who abandons her country because she loves the king of an enemy country….”
“That’s why.”
Ixion crossed his arms, as if he was about to say something important.
He didn’t tell anyone, but Mela came here on her own after Ixion summoned her.
“I’m going to need you to do something for me.”
Mela bowed her head slightly, as if she was about to say something.
Ixion continued calmly.
“We have removed all elements that could endanger Princess Elsia. It’s a good thing to give her freedom because she’s been in pain in the Imperial Palace.”
“Now?”
“We promised to get her out of the palace as soon as possible.”
Ixion sent a letter to Mela.
“This is a direct message from His Majesty. In commemoration of the victory, I request that Elsia Artize, a hostage, be released. Before I went to war, I made a promise.”
“Ah—It must have been a difficult promise—”
“We’ve already completed the negotiations. Your Majesty’s will is unwavering, but the aristocracy may object. It won’t be easy, but please plan ahead of time.”
“Without a doubt. I’ll give it my all.”
Ixion hesitated to bring up the request because Evgeny was not one of the candidates, but Mela responded without hesitation.
“I don’t think it’ll be as difficult as I expected. Princess Elsia appears to be getting to know the Duke’s son and daughter these days.”
“Friend? Princess Elsia?”
“There’s a rumor that Young Lady Irene Geoffrey and Duke Ridan Roziad pay her daily visits.”
Aiden was dumbfounded, and Ixion appeared suspicious.
“No, how does she meet people when she’s stuck in the palace?”
“I still don’t know the details, but I’m sure they made it on the Princess’s side.”
Ixion had a flashback to Elsia’s words.
‘Of course, I thought it was an impossible word—’
But, given how far the war has aided, Elsia could have possessed that ability and strength.
“Work appears to be simple thanks to the Princess, so let’s make a good plate. You’ve already done an excellent job because she’s under Your Majesty the Emperor’s protection.”
“Please take care of it. It’s probably painful to be in the palace in this situation.”
Mela gave a nod of her head. It will be difficult for Ixion to come straight up to the capital to reorganize the occupied area, no matter how much the war is over.
The noble family referred to themselves as a good three in order to give Elsia some kind of quick freedom.
He still wanted to see her formally and thank her, but he decided it was sufficient for the time being.
“Also, please look after her until I return to the capital. Where would she go right now in a foreign country?”
“Ah.”
Mela smiled widely in response to Ixion’s words.
“You asked me to look after her. Is there going to be a question? Evgeny is also indebted to Princess Elsia. Without her, the Marquis of Evgeny would have been executed for the murder of the royal family.”
“I won’t keep you in debt for long.”
Mela and Aiden both frowned as the next word followed.
“When I return to the capital, I’m thinking about marrying her.”
For a brief moment, the barracks were deafeningly quiet. Mela is frozen and unable to respond, and Aiden exclaimed in amazement.
“Wait, Prince? Marriage?”
“Do you have a problem?”
“Yes, there is.”
Aiden exclaimed, almost out of breath.
“I’ve been telling you all along. We’ve now reached a safe level with a foundation. However, Princess Elsia is of no help to the Prince.”
It was an unthinkable pairing. Aiden became terrified.
Ixion had nothing to gain by marrying the orphan royal daughter of the fallen kingdom, regardless of appearance or culture.
No, rather, it will only provoke imperial resistance. There was no way to allow marriage to a fallen enemy royal woman.
Marriage is important to him, but without any background—. And perhaps this is his only chance to establish a foundation in the capital—.
Why does the continent’s best groom marry a woman with nothing to see?
Even though he has a commoner mother and is far from the three Princes, there are many young people in the capital who adore him.
“Prince, it’s not a good combination. There will be great opposition from the Imperial court. The Prince needs a political marriage to have his back. A good family, a woman of enormous wealth, or a woman of great political power. Do you want me to repeat the list of suitable young ladies?”
“Did they save my life?”
Ixion asked as if he was dumbfounded.
“Have they helped the war end so easily and without sacrifice?”
Aiden, who couldn’t find an answer, bit his lips.
“Did they love me so desperately that they abandoned their motherland?”
He felt a strange chill of anger. Aiden backed off because he was afraid he’d be unable to live if he threw up any more.
Aiden was quick to think for a second.
Everyone in the Imperial family praised Ixion, who had been a swordsman since he was a child, but he was wary.
The Emperor was not always fond of his children, and Ixion’s mother died without even giving him breast milk.
There was a knighthood for him who would die without hesitation, but it was more out of loyalty than love.
He has been showered with women’s cheers, gazes, sympathies, and goodwill… But he’d never been so desperately loved in his life that he’d bet everything.
‘No woman who adores the Prince means more to him than Princess Elsia.’
Ixion said emphatically, as if he had hit a nail.
“I’ve already promised to fully repay her heart.”
‘Ah, it’s over.’
Aiden opened his mouth blankly.
When Ixion spoke in that tone, it meant that all of the decisions had been made.
His meticulous master must have drawn a web-like blueprint for his marriage to Elsia in his mind.
Ixion was a meticulous judge in a number of cases. There has never been a time when his own plan has failed.
Aiden shook his head and groaned. No one will be able to put a stop to this marriage now.
“So don’t talk about Elsia Artise’s appearance, family, or culture. From now on.”
Aiden stepped back, but it was Mela who responded calmly to the question.
“Not at all, Prince.” She spoke softly.
“Regardless of how much she will become the Prince’s wife, it is impossible not to discuss her appearance, family, and culture. It will be even more painful for her if she becomes controversial because it will result in blue water in the capital.”
Mela smiled, her eyes sparkle
“Even if you can’t change your appearance, you can influence her culture and home. Artise is no longer available, and she is no longer a royal daughter—”
She continued in a confident tone, without hesitation.
“I’ll adopt her as Marquis Evgeny’s daughter.”
Not only Aiden, but also Ixion, were taken aback by the words.
“When it comes to the Marquis, no one will nitpick about her home, and I will also educate her on empire culture. Of course, there will be opposition, but it will serve as a shield for her to some extent.”
It was incredible to have a ruined Princess as an adopted daughter.
Aiden responded with a serious expression.
“It doesn’t appear to be an easy choice. There’s a family heirloom at stake.”
“She saved Evgeny. And that is something I can do more for her. And it’s not a hasty decision.”
Mela spoke calmly.
“I assumed from the start that if there was a strong enough opposition to granting freedom to Princess Elsia, she could join our family. But it’s beneficial in a variety of ways.”
She even clasped her hands together and exhaled a joyful sigh.
“I’ve always wished for a daughter. Not an idiot eldest son and a sickly, nervous little brat—”
Ixion gave a slow nod. It was because he didn’t have a reason to say no.
“So, let’s get started. I’m handing it over to the Marquis, so please look after it in the capital.”
If things had progressed this far, it was necessary to declare that all situations were over.
Aiden was on the verge of tears as he watched Ixion’s politically available cards fly away in real time, but he decided not to say anything more about it.
But now that he’s seen Mela, he has something to say.
“Of course, speaking of your eldest son—”
Aiden brought it up with caution. Mela’s face hardened in an instant.
‘What is it with this idiot son again?’
“Now there aren’t any big battles that require magic, why don’t you go back with him?”
“……”
Mela sighed and inquired quietly.
“What issue has he created? The only thing that will get him in trouble is a woman.”
“Yes, there is a lot of division among the people here. He’s been poking around here and there, no, he’s been getting to know them—”
“…….”
“That’s all for now.”
“I apologize. I’ll get it to the territory as soon as possible. I’ll go straight to the capital and start working on Princess Elsia’s case.”
