I Didn’t Save You To Get Proposed To - Chapter 12
A meeting was called to decide whether or not the war was finally over, as well as my future course and status.
Ridan came into the meeting in person and promised to stand by me, and Irene was told that her father had made a firm promise to her.
I was waiting for Ridan and Irene when an unexpected visitor showed up. Marchioness Evgeny, a strong-looking woman in her fifties, approached.
It was my first time seeing her in person, and she seemed to recognize me right away. Because the Marchioness almost screamed and fled as soon as she saw me.
“O-oh my!”
She held my hand tightly with a shocked face.
I was also embarrassed and couldn’t answer anything, she said in a trembling voice.
“I knew that the treatment had been worse since the assassination of the Prince of Artise, but…. Oh my God… But still….”
“Ah—”
“Your body… What should I do with this?”
I laughed awkwardly because I didn’t know what to say.
Since Irene made a fuss at the palace, treatment has improved a lot, but everyone thought the cause of my sudden change in appearance was poor treatment at the palace.
“I-I’m still— healthier. Thank you for your concern.”
I was finally at my ideal weight.
Sera brought refreshments, and the mood returned to normal. The Marchioness smiled softly and looked at me.
“First of all, I’d like to apologize for just coming to see you, and I’d like to express my gratitude.”
“Yes?”
“If it hadn’t been for Lady, Evgeny would have been destroyed right away.”
“Ah…”
I gave a quiet smile. That was the appropriate thing to say.
And I paused a little when I saw the word ‘lady.’
‘I am no longer a royal princess, because my country is already ruined’ she admits.
“My husband collapsed a few years ago…… Because the eldest son was already a member of the Magic Tower, he was unable to take over the manor…… My little son was very ill…. I was the only one who led the way here, and it almost all went wrong.”
“I didn’t do anything much.”
As a result, I had to stretch out the hem of my baggy dress.
The dress was now so large that basting was no longer an option. Even if Ridan or Irene asked me to get a gift of clothes, I would politely decline.
It was the meeting’s pressure that pushed her to push on with a load on her mind.
With sad eyes, the Marchioness stared at me, rolling up her sleeves.
“Now, Prince Ixion has personally requested your release, and I have good news.”
“Ah, yes.”
Finally! My heart was pounding.
‘I’m finally getting out of this damn jail!’
When I have free time, I like to go to a forest full of phytoncide and experience nature. I suppose yoga is about grooming your mind and body in nature.
As she looked into my sparkling eyes, the Marchioness smiled softly.
“It was only recently decided. The Imperial Edict will be delivered soon. The Kingdom of Artise no longer exists, and you are no longer a hostage.”
When the things that I longed for come true, it seems like I get dazed for a moment.
I leaned against the chair with a shallow sigh.
“I didn’t know it would be this easy. I knew the meeting would go through several stages. But the decision was made quickly because of the strong support of Duke Geoffrey and Duke Roziad.”
“Ah—”
“Lady, I was really surprised. How did you manage to recruit two great nobles—?”
10
“I was simply lucky. I’ve had the opportunity to make friends beyond my ability.”
“The nobles never do something for no reason.. Perhaps the Prince was very surprised at heart. This political sense to you is…”
I felt a tingling sensation as I saw the Marchioness’s adoration.
I don’t know what the future holds because it’s so different from the original, but political sense was important.
I needed to get out of this story as soon as possible.
“Then.. Can I now leave the palace?”
“Right.”
The Marchioness nodded loudly.
“The Prince mentioned you were looking forward to the day you left the palace, so it was true. He sent me to the capital in order to release you as quickly as possible.”
Ixion was still unable to come to the capital to end the war. Well, winning a battle didn’t mean the war ended. Even destroying a country.
He must reorganize the army, prepare for a possible civil war, investigate each piece of land individually, and pick a proper representative. It wasn’t until everything was done that it was declared a victory.
He was a thoughtful man, even if he was straightforward in informing Marchioness that he would keep his promise that my freedom may be decided when he returned to the capital.
‘Right. This kind of personality is worth saving.’ As I smiled happily, the Marchioness looked at me with interest.
“Do you want me to tell you more about the Prince?”
“Yes? Uh… I’ve already heard a lot of important things…”
Nothing grabbed my attention because Ridan and Irene had told me about it day by day.
“He easily won with the information you gave him, and he didn’t forget to give you credit.”
“Oh, thank you very much.”
‘You obviously have a sense of shame.’ I couldn’t keep the corner of my mouth from curling up in pride.
“And by any chance— Have you thought about the future? Like a place to entrust—”
“No, of course not.”
I spoke with confidence.
“However, when the Prince returns, he has promised to reward me generously. He’ll undoubtedly give me a settlement fee, right?”
‘So, if you’ve been asked, please give it to me as soon as possible.’
Obviously, I was convinced that even if I left the palace, Ixion would look after me for a while. I saved his life, but I doubt he’ll be thrown out of the palace with his own blood.
The Marchioness, on the other hand, smiled hazily.
“Oh… So you understand the reward… Then…”
“Yes?”
“No, then I can’t tell you the truth.”
The Marchioness smiled, covering her mouth with her hands.
“In return, I think it’s better to hear directly from the Prince. The content is a bit heavy for me to deliver.”
“Ah— Well, will he give me something amazing?”
“We couldn’t have imagined it, and I’m sure you’ll be delighted. You can anticipate it.”
My mouth twitched, thinking I was about to give a mansion rather than a settlement fee.
‘The end of luxury in Korea was real estate!’
The Marchioness, the great noble woman, said it was okay to look forward to it, so it would be beyond my imagination anyway.
‘No, are you going to rip off the land? Such a thing is burdensome….’
The Marchioness laughed significantly at my anticipated face.
“Then, how about coming to Evgeny if there is no place to rely on it?”
“Pardon?”
“Because I was greatly indebted to the Lady in Evgeny, and I always wanted a daughter. Now that you can’t even write a surname Artise, I’m asking you to become my adopted daughter.”
I was surprised and couldn’t answer properly.
The Marquis Evgeny was a great nobleman with a vast and affluent manor, although he was a periphery.
‘But I’m going in there as an adopted daughter?’
Of course, I deserved it. Nonetheless, as an adopted daughter, she would be entitled to inheritance and would have aristocratic status.
It was a crazy idea. From the atlas, I remembered Marquis Evgeny.
It was a rich region in the south, where the Deraloz Mountains spanned the forest and the beautiful Lake Levez.
It was also a long distance from the capital.
“Please allow me the opportunity to repay the favor. You will have a large wing in Evgeny’s mansion.”
I didn’t need wings, but I was delighted with the offer, which perfectly fits my plan of recuperating and living a quiet life in a countryside.
The aristocrat could play, eat a night snack, and enjoy the natural scenery at the Marquis, which was located far from the capital or the imperial palace.
It was a far more refined way of life than being self-sufficient in the countryside.
“T-then…”
I didn’t grow out of this great opportunity by turning it down out of shamelessness.
“It’s too much for me, but I look forward to your kind cooperation.”
The Marchioness appeared to be a reasonable and good person in the original.
When I accepted the offer as adopted daughter, the Marchioness smiled and took my hand once more.
“I’ll get the important documents together and register it as soon as possible. I’ll have to stop by the Marquis mansion in the capital for a quick look.”
‘What? Is there a Marquis mansion in the capital?’
“Make yourself at home because we’ll be hiring new maids, servants, and butlers. Of course, I’ll stock up on new clothing and accessories. And, of course, there’s an escort.”
‘Wait a minute. You said I’m an adopted daughter right ? Should I not go to Marquis?’
In embarrassment, I opened my eyes wide.
“I wish I could stay with you in the capital, but as I’ve previously stated, I’m the only one who can manage the estate, so I can’t leave the Marquis for long.”
“What? I’m not going to Marquis?”
At that word, the Marquis looked very troubled.
“Oh—Uh, you will come to the capital anyway—.”
“Who?”
“Isn’t it better for a young lady to stay in the capital?— There’s a lot to play with, and there’s a lot of people my age. Because my eldest son says he can’t crawl back to the capital. The Marquis has lovely forests and lakes, but it’s a little boring because it’s so far from the capital.”
‘That’s all I ever wanted!’
As an adopted daughter, I was going to meditate, focus on my body, and do yoga in nature.
There was no reason to remain in the capital.
“Well, I’d like to go to Marquis. The capital city is, uh, scary, and it’s difficult to adapt to—”
I was trying to think of another reason as quickly as possible.
“But I’m an adopted daughter and I want to say hello to other family members.”
The Marchioness frowned and sighed.
“Oh, I didn’t consider that. I see what you mean. Even if they were stupid kids, I should have asked them to say hello.”
“Hahah—”
“Well, we’ll meet late because Marquis is far away—but we should go straight to Marquis because we have eyes for others.”
‘What are you doing meeting so late?’
I smiled and looked up, but the timing of the question was off because the Marchioness gripped my hand even tighter.
“But first, let’s match the dresses in the capital. Clothes are fashionable in the capital.”
“Yes?”
“I’m very sorry to have to say this. But you’ve become so beautiful.”
The Marchioness expressed her embarrassment.
“Please leave it to me so no one can criticize your appearance.”
“Pardon?”
“I’ve always wanted a daughter.”
The Marchioness looked strangely excited.
