I Don’t Want A Prince In My Life - Chapter 10. Master And Servant
“I’m glad to hear that. Thank you for staying in the castle.”
Albert looked up at Serge’s words.
“I’m relieved too because His Royal Highness hasn’t been at all at ease since he found out that Miss Cecilia was coming to our country.”
Albert glared at Serge with a slight hint of ridicule.
“Why didn’t you tell me? You knew she was in the country earlier, didn’t you? What about the story of how you ordered the merchant to protect her? If you knew where she was, why didn’t you tell me earlier?”
“It is only recently that we have been able to confirm that she is indeed Miss Cecilia. She was very careful to keep her identity a secret. Besides, at the time when the merchant delivered the translated book, Your Highness was still suffering from the side effects of the spell, and you were in no condition to meet anyone. It is fortunate that the witch noticed the spell early on, otherwise you would still be screaming Angelica’s name and running rampant.”
Albert couldn’t say anything back.
He could not retort because everything Serge had said was true.
Witches are characters of fairy tales, but in fact they exist in this world.
Only a few people know about them.
And the King of Theophilus was one of those who knew of their existence.
When he saw the unusual condition of the Prince on his return from Percival and that neither medicine nor church prayers could help, he summoned a witch who had once been related to the royal family, relying on an oral tradition passed down only to the king.
The code to summon the witch was “The one who teaches love”.
The king sent out an announcement with this code, and the witch, who arrived safely, lifted the spell of enchantment that had been cast on Albert.
Albert and his friends, who had always thought of witches as nothing more than fairy tales like the rest of us, had to admit that they existed.
After all, they had experienced the horror of magic firsthand.
“You had spells cast on you at the same time. Why did you recover faster? Isn’t that unfair?”
Albert said dismissively, and Serge sighed, looking as if he had no idea what he was talking about.
“Your Highness had spent far more time with Miss Angelica than with me. In fact, I think I was even kept away from her because it didn’t work very well. Now that I’ve talked to the Witch, I’ve solved that mystery. They say one can only cast a charm spell on someone who has the slightest liking for her. I’m asexual, so that’s probably why it didn’t work on me.”
Albert tried to say something back to Serge, but in the end he had nothing to say and sank down tiredly.
He was relieved to see that Cecilia, who had been missing, was safe, but he was apparently shocked by her disproportionate appearance and tiredness.
“Still, I was implied not to distrust your behavior. According to the Witch, the magician who put the magic on us was quite skilled. The thought of a neighboring country being taken over by such an opponent is mind boggling.”
And the magician was probably Angelica herself or someone close to her.
As he said to Cecilia earlier, as a neighboring country, he couldn’t just sit back and watch Percival fall into chaos.
The two countries had made peace through royal marriage in the reign of their predecessors.
Therefore, Albert has the right to the throne of Percival and Lionel to the throne of Theophilus.
There is even a possibility that Angelica will murder Albert, who has escaped her clutches, and use Lionel to take possession of the two countries.
It was true that there was one who instigated the civil unrest of Percival, which Albert told me earlier, and I am sure that King Percival was troubled at this moment.
“It’s a good thing you didn’t die, by the way.”
Albert shuddered at Serge’s unreserved remark.
The witch’s spell had brought him gradually to his senses, and he regretted his misdeeds so much that he had impulsively attempted suicide.
What anguished him most of all was the fact that he had been complicit in the persecution of his old acquaintance Cecilia, and he had not tried to stop it.
And it was Serge’s words about who would protect her if he had disappeared that put a stop to his thoughts of death.
And Albert, in a moment of literal death wish contrition, endured the side effects of the spell and regained his wits.
It is true, of course, that he was looking for the bereaved family, but Albert also tried to trace Cecilia.
Although Cecilia had carefully avoided Angelica’s pursuers, it was fortunate that her translated books caught the eye of merchants who came and went to the castle.
The translation was confirmed by Albert that it was Cecilia’s handwriting.
“Well, I was upset when you started crying,” Serge said. “ I am very glad that nothing happened to Miss Cecilia.”
The hardships Cecilia experienced were not normal, but if the misconception was still true, could Albert remain calm?
“She’s your first love, after all.”
It was a one–sided love that Albert had never been able to talk about.
By the time they met, Cecilia had already decided to marry Lionel.
And the only person who knew Albert’s thoughts was Serge, who has served as a servant since he was a child.
Even though he had never fallen in love himself, Serge was quick to notice his master’s distress.
“Stop it. It’s disrespectful to her.”
Albert said in a stifled voice.
Serge did not reply, but instead he gave a small shrug.
