I Don’t Want A Prince In My Life - Chapter 13. The Qualities Of A Witch
“Huh?”
The ball of fluff in front of me shouted in an awkward way.
I didn’t have time to worry about my dishevelled hair because my eyes were glued to the ball of fur in front of me.
It was a creature I had never seen before with smooth, white fur.
But why? I felt strangely nostalgic.
When I reached out to touch it, it rubbed against my fingertips as if it loved me.
I was sure I had touched it, and once again, I was surprised to find that it was not an illusion.
“This is…”
Albert, who was still holding me by the shoulders, said in a dazed voice.
“It seems that even you can see this strange creature.”
But for some reason, the furball seemed to be hostile to Albert, and its bushy hair split open to reveal a tongue-like lash that challenged him.
Albert was bewildered by the sudden hostility and immediately withdrew his outstretched hand, as I had done.
“Hmmm…It seems that you used a lot of force to protect yourself, but somehow you managed to stay alive.”
The girl, who had been playing the role of a maidservant, took on a completely different tone and stroked the white ball of fur that had just appeared.
“What on earth is this?”
I asked curiously, and the witch looked at me with an implied expression.
“It’s a guardian spirit that has been protecting you.”
“A guardian spirit?”
Whenever a person was born with witchcraft potential, a guardian spirit would appear from the natural world to protect her from the shadows and the sun. In other words, only a person who has a guardian spirit could be a witch.
“Then…”
If I were to believe the words of the witch, then it meant I had the qualities of a witch.
I’ve been told that I was nice, but I’ve never been told that I could be a witch before, and I was confused.
I couldn’t even decide if that was a good thing or a bad thing.
I just felt a tickling sensation as the furball rubbed up against me happily.
If the witch’s words were true, this furball had been with me since I was born.
When I thought I was fighting alone in Percival, it was by my side even if I couldn’t see it.
And even if that meant I had to face Angelica alone, it was better than being controlled by her and killing people without a care in the world.
Although I couldn’t see anything that looked like it had eyes, the furball looked up at Albert as if it had just noticed him again. It started to throw itself at him, telling him to get away from me.
It didn’t seem to hurt much, but Albert pulled away from me as if he were under pressure.
Albert seemed a little depressed to learn that his protector had rejected him, but maybe I was just imagining things.
“This is a temporary form, but if you tell it to, it will be able to return to its true form. But in order to do so, there is something you must do.”
The witch, who had been smiling mischievously just a moment ago, suddenly looked straight at me with a serious face.
“Me?”
“Yes. If the power of this guardian spirit returns, it will be easy to defeat the witches that nest in the neighboring countries. However, as it is now, it will take decades for the guardian spirit to recover. Therefore, you must train yourself to become a witch.”
I did not expect this.
She was asking me to be a witch like her.
But I’ve never wanted to be a witch, and I’ve never even mentioned it.
I thought the witch in the neighboring country was Angelica, but I wasn’t sure if I wanted to defeat her.
It was true that I hate her, but it wasn’t true that I wanted to fight and win.
I was beaten and beaten one way or the other, and the truth was that I never wanted to have anything to do with her or that country again.
So, even if she asked me to become a witch for this purpose, I would not want to do so at all.
“Why me?”
My thoughts just dribbled out.
“I just want to live a quiet life. I don’t have the slightest desire to stand up to her and save my father and my fiancée. I don’t care if it destroys the country. Do you want me to be a witch who doesn’t know what she is?”
The witch rolled her eyes at my question.
The furball, on the other hand, flew around me as if it was worried about me.
Albert, who had told me not to run away, just watched the proceedings in silence.
An awkward silence fell over the lush garden.
After a moment, the witch, to my surprise, didn’t get angry. She just spoke casually.
“I see, I see. I see what you mean.”
It was my turn to widen my eyes at the unexpected reaction.
