I Got Transmigrated into a Horror Game Instead - Chapter 11
As they ran, Rachel saw the rabbit again. In the path that split into three directions, the rabbit disappeared to the left.
“That rabbit!”
“What are you saying?”
“Did you not see the rabbit that just went in there?”
Henri and Rachel were running side by side in the front and Enoch was running behind them whilst the soldiers gave chase. So, if Rachel saw it, then Henri would’ve seen it too, but he quickly shook his head.
“I didn’t see it.”
He hesitated with which direction to go as he faced the forked path. Rachel, feeling Henri’s hesitation, stretched out her finger towards the direction the rabbit went.
“That way!”
She decided to believe and chose the path the rabbit had taken. The enemy was running after them from behind, and they couldn’t waste time on the forked path.
‘If I make the wrong choice, will only I die?’
“Did you see something?”
“I don’t know! Delaying here doesn’t mean an answer will come out!”
“Yes. We have to go somewhere for now.”
Enoch, who followed closely behind, agreed.
The three of them ran to the left of the hallway. As they progressed, the distance between the torches increased and the lights faded.
Rachel’s legs slowed down as she struggled to breathe and her heart pounded in her chest.
‘At this rate, I’ll die from my heart exploding.’
Rachel panted and looked at Enoch. He, who had used his divine powers on her earlier because she was exhausted, was now watching the hallway.
“We’re not being chased anymore.”
“I can feel the power of black magic in front of us. What should we do?”
Enoch asked the two for their opinion.
Paris Emporus was not a black mage, but traces of black magic were present. In other words, the black mage was another person.
“Let’s go check. Black magic must be done secretly so shouldn’t there be a hidden passage nearby?”
They’d be in a bad situation if they got out of the castle through the main gate anyway. Rachel suggested going to the place filled with black magic.
The black mage must be hiding his identity if he was residing in this castle. Or, he would have disguised the fact that he was in this castle.
If it was the latter, there must be a secret passage within the mansion used by the black mage, and they may be able to use it.
“Let’s go.”
Henri, who had caused the commotion because he did not believe Rachel, followed Rachel’s words this time.
The three kept walking and walking. The torches that were hanging in the distance eventually disappeared. If Henri hadn’t picked up a torch hanging on the wall in the middle, they would be lost in the dark.
The three reached the end of the hallway. But there was nothing there.
“It’s blocked.”
“No. There is something around here.”
Enoch examined the closed hallway that had no windows or doors.
Rachel, with her chin propped up on her hand as her gaze wandered the wall, looked out for a devil summoner in the basement of the mansion.
‘Since this is a horror game…….’
There will be hidden spaces. Rachel plucked out a single strand of her hair and let it hang. The hair strand tilted in the direction they came.
“The wind is blowing in front of me.”
The wall looked like it was blocked, but it meant that there was space beyond it.
‘In comics, if you lean like this…….’
Rachel approached the wall and leaned her body against it. She did it without much expectation, but at that moment, the wall began to turn like a revolving door.
Creeeeaaak.
“Rachel!”
The two men shouted Rachel’s name. So Rachel was moved to the other side of the wall alone.
“I’m fine! There’s a space here.”
But the torch is over there, so I can’t see anything.
“We’ll go there now.”
Rachel slowly backed away from the wall. Soon after, the wall turned and Henri and Enoch entered.
The torch then lit up the space. A pattern similar to the demon summoning circle seen in the basement of the mansion was engraved on the floor.
“Oh!”
Looking at the circle, Enoch let out a brief exclamation.
“What’s wrong?”
“I was wrong. The baron is a temporary contractor.”
“What does that mean?”
Black magic is the power obtained by contracting with the devil. In order to bring the power of the devil from the other world to the royal family, a medium is required and it is usually the contractor’s body that is used as the medium when signing a contract.
Therefore, the black mage leaves traces of the devil, and priests with divine power can track the black mage.
But there were exceptions.
“A person who promises to make a specific sacrifice and receives power in advance through a devil’s token.”
The contract is signed the moment the temporary contractor offers the promised sacrifice to the devil. If the token is removed from the body before that, even a priest would not be able to recognize the contractor.
“This is an inactive contract. The moment a sacrifice is made here, the contract will be concluded.”
Only then did Rachel understand why Paris Emporus was after her. He promised to sacrifice her to the devil.
“It must be the baron who put the cursed medium in the mansion.”
“Brother……!”
“There’s no time to be surprised. Let’s move first.”
Rachel quickly walked so that Henri wouldn’t focus on the betrayal. It was important for them to escape first.
If they fail to escape, she will return, but she didn’t want to experience death and return as much as possible.
She was told that the regression ability has been amplified, but for how long, she did not know. What if she suddenly died one day and that was the end?
‘It’s unfair.’
She couldn’t even enjoy life and if she dies while running around like that, there would be nothing more upsetting than that.
Rachel found a wooden door leading down and opened it. There was a descending spiral staircase.
“Let’s go down these stairs.”
Just like there was a hidden space, there was a secret passage.
The three went down the spiral staircase until they reached the entrance. There was a chance that someone might have followed them, but no one was chasing them.
Only the sound of footsteps on the stairs echoed in the room.
‘I have a bad feeling about this.’
It was too quiet. Did the Baron really think that they would never find the hidden space? But there was no window, so she couldn’t see the situation outside.
“The coachman must be sleeping, how do we get out of the castle?”
Enoch asked.
Even if they escape the castle’s interior, if they can’t cross the outer walls surrounding the estate, they will inevitably be captured by the baron. The baron will issue a blockade and the security will be tightened. The more time passed, the more disadvantageous it was for them.
“Things will work out somehow.”
The response was so careless that she lost her energy. Rachel glared at Henri, who completely killed the mood.
Frankly, Enoch was nothing more than an outsider in this matter. Doesn’t he look like he’s just going to get caught up and die here?
Rachel answered with a shallow sigh.
“Whether we pretend to be a beggar or ask someone else to contact the temple, we have to figure it out somehow. If there’s a carriage, we could hide inside as it leaves the estate.”
Emporus is a family that prospered through commerce. The reason Rachel moved from the former residence to Harpa Castle was because of the smooth flow of goods in this estate.
So it cannot be completely blockaded. They can check the merchants’ goods as they leave, but they can’t hold them for long. Rachel knew that an opportunity would come.
“So…….”
Just as she was about to tell them not to give up, the torches went out and a thick darkness enveloped them. Then,
“Found you!”
A high-pitched male voice was heard. The sound of footsteps came from below.
Enoch was shining due to his divine power. But, it wasn’t the time to ask if he had always been able to do such a thing.
A slender man was standing at the bottom of the stairs. But even though he stood at the bottom of the stairs, there was not much difference in their eye level on their side.
“Black mage!”
Enoch shouted as he stretched out his right arm to block Rachel and Henri.
“A child who believes in doves*. The baron didn’t mention this.”
[T/N: Because he has divinity/from the temple I guess]
Instead of being furious at his words, Enoch swung his sword. The pure white sword glimmered and pierced the enemy.
The sound of tearing leather echoed. But it wasn’t the black mage who fell.
“Father!”
A black sword imbued with magic flew past Enoch and pierced Henri’s chest.
Hot blood gushed out of his mouth. His hand went to Rachel’s face.
“Stay, alive…….”
And as he said those words, his head fell helplessly.
Rachel swung her head around. She wanted to deeply carve the man who killed Henri in her sight.
However, as she laid eyes on him, the small face stretched lengthwise and turned into a line.
– A family member died. Returning to checkpoint.
‘Damn it.’
***
It was blinding. Instead of the dark and narrow stairs, she saw a bright dining room. Round 16 has begun.
“Rachel? Why are you crying?”
Evelyn stopped eating and asked. Rachel raised her hand and felt under her eyes. Water was flowing down.
“Crybaby. She’s a crybaby! Sister cried while eating!”
Only the 12-year-old Deino couldn’t grasp the situation and made fun of his sister.
“The food must have been spicy.”
“There’s nothing spicy in it though?”
At Rachel’s excuse, Evelyn and Priest Peace looked worried. Enoch also stopped picking his carrots and looked at Rachel.
Rachel thought. Henri wouldn’t believe her words until he experiences it himself. Also, Enoch cannot protect her and Henri alone.
She was not supposed to go to the castle at all. That was the only answer. But Henri wouldn’t not go just because Rachel told him not to go to the castle.
‘This never happened in those two years. Without me, the baron wouldn’t kill father.’
However, she couldn’t give up meeting Abyss.
“A black mage appears at Harpa Castle. I saw the future where Father died.”
“A black mage?”
“Father, can we not go to that castle?”
“It is something that cannot be overlooked!”
Priest Peace said with a serious expression.
“I will contact the nearest temple first. Sister, may I ask for your help?”
“Of course. Black mages are dangerous. Honey, as Rachel said, don’t stop by Harpa Castle.”
“Okay.”
Priest Peace, Enoch, and Evelyn became busy. This time, the three were saying they were going to Harpa Castle.
“Isn’t it dangerous for you to go there yourself?”
“It’s okay. Honey. I mean, aren’t I pretty strong?”
‘Mother is a strong person so she won’t die.’
Rachel believed in Evelyn’s skills. According to their conversation, she won’t go alone and will move with priests.
When Enoch was alone, he couldn’t save Henri because he had to fight the black mage, but if she was accompanied by a number of priests, she could be healed even if she was injured.
After lunch, everyone but Deino got into a carriage. Even the horses that were used during the previous round were mobilized.
Enoch sat with the coachman, and Rachel, Henri, her mother, and Priest Peace were seated inside the carriage.
“Do you have any more detailed information?”
At Priest Peace’s question, Rachel recalled if there was something she hadn’t told her.
She told them all of the characteristics she had seen of the black magician. Because Evelyn and Priest Peace only asked about that.
Rachel remembered what she had not said.
“There is a secret passage in Harpa Castle. The black mage shows up there.”
She wanted to give some more detailed information, but she couldn’t quite come up with the route from which they escaped.
Rachel bit her lip.
The priest wanted to find a secret space and reveal the fact that the baron was a temporary contractor.
“A secret passage?”
“I think the black mage seems to have broken into the castle from there.”
Rachel hoped that the priest would find the secret space and added false information.
She wanted to blurt out the fact that the baron and the black mage were in it together, but because of Henri, she couldn’t be honest.
If he hears that his brother has something to do with the devil, Henri will definitely go and confirm it with his own eyes.
“I don’t know for sure, but it’s on the same floor as the dining hall.”
“Alright. Thank you for the information, Miss Rachel.”
With this, she has done all that she could right now. Rachel wished to reveal the truth about the Baron’s identity at the temple.
