Contrary to expectations, Lin Yun did not open fire mid-air. Instead, he leaped above Guo Yun and pointed and inserted the long-barreled gun in a downwards motion into Guo Yun’s open mouth.
“Bang!”
A resounding gunshot echoed from Guo Yun’s throat and copious amounts of blood gushed out from her mouth. Her head rolled and her entire body collapsed onto the ground.
A Level 7 Physical Strength body could not be harmed by bullets, but the neck was still a weak spot of the body. Moreover, that shot was performed inside the body.
It had finally ended.
Lin Yun sighed in immense relief. He then quickly ran toward Feng Ke and checked on her injuries.
“Are you okay?” Lin Yun asked anxiously as he stared at her pale face.
Feng Ke smiled bitterly. “Yes. I accidentally took a punch from her, so I don’t have much energy right now.”
Song Junming slowly stood up and drawled. “That’s good. Let’s go, then.”
Lin Yun looked at Song Junming, feeling slightly touched. After all, the two of them were not really close, and yet, Song Junming helped him so much. With a smile, he inquired. “Where to?”
“Where to? Of course to my hometown, the Blue Snow Planet.”
Song Junming’s expression and smile looked strange.
“Are you pulling our leg? Isn’t the Blue Snow Planet a territory belonging to the Demon Race?”
Feng Ke looked at him, befuddled, as she questioned him.
“Hehe, that’s right. Every winter, the Blue Snow Planet would rain beautiful blue snow. My hometown is a territory belonging to the Demon Race’s Planet Master Ren Xue. I can’t remember how many years it has been since I last saw the blue snow of my hometown.”
Song Junming looked up at the sky in melancholy, as though he had just narrated something insignificant. However, his words caused Lin Yun and Feng Ke to fall into turmoil.
Song Junming was actually a spy from the Demon Race!
Lin Yun refused to believe that Song Junming, a polite man who was always smiling and helping to extract him from difficult situations, was actually a spy from the Demon Race. A glance at Guo Yun’s carcass proved that they were battling on the same side together just moments before!
“I don’t believe you. You’re joking, right? Or were you bewitched by a spy from the Demon Race?” Lin Yun interrogated Song Junming sharply while staring into the latter’s eyes.
Song Junming looked regretful and helpless. Sighing, he commented softly, “You’re too naive, Lin Yun.”
As soon as he said that, a blue gleam of light flashed past his eyes.
Lin Yun could no longer move. The sense of helplessness he felt when he encountered the blue-rimmed glasses at the Blue Sea Forest reappeared. He regained his ability to move in the next moment.
Spiritual Restraint!
Song Junming’s Spiritual Strength was, in fact, at Level 6. He had concealed his true strength in the battle just now and in the battle in the Blue Sea Forest. The objective was to gain Lin Yun’s trust and friendship.
I see.
Lin Yun felt that his friendship with Song Junming crumpled onto the ground and was repeatedly stepped on. He demanded loudly. “Why? Why did you try to befriend me, an ordinary person? Why did you want to save me? Why, since you are a spy from the Demon Race?”
Song Junming’s expression changed slightly. He slowly turned and looked at Feng Ke, before replying sharply, “It’s because of her! She appeared only once in school and completely disappeared thereafter. The only person close to her is you, Lin Yun. I befriended and even saved you, all to find her.”
Lin Yun failed to understand why. He followed Song Junming’s gaze and looked at Feng Ke as well, only to see her avoiding his gaze.
“Should I address you as new student Feng Ke of the Clearwater College’s special class, or as Princess Feng Ke1 of the Phoenix Race?” Song Junming’s tone was devoid of any warmth, like the icy wind during winter.
“Princess of the Phoenix Race?” Lin Yun looked at Feng Ke inquiringly.
Feng Ke’s face flushed and she explained softly, “I’m sorry. I did lie to you, Lin Yun. I’m actually the princess of the Phoenix Race. I used a pseudonym. My aunt brought me to attend Clearwater College in order to find an opportunity in the Blue Sea Forest. It was never my intention to deceive you, for it does not benefit you in any way even if you knew all these.”
Lin Yun looked over at Song Junming and stared at the latter intensely, before demanding. “What exactly is the Phoenix Race? What is your intention?”
Song Junming replied calmly, “You’re like a frog in the well as an ordinary person of this small planet. You have no idea just how big this universe is. In truth, the Human Alliance does not comprise of humans only.”
“What do you mean by that?” Lin Yun was curious and shocked by that claim.
“Other than humans, there are various different races as well, like the Dragon Race and the Phoenix Race. These races form the core of the Human Congress. Without the help of these races, the Demon Race would have conquered the Human Race a long time ago.”
Lin Yun was stunned. Weren’t the Dragon and Phoenix Races existing only in the legends and myths? They were actually real?
“Hehe. An ordinary person like you would naturally not be able to come into contact with this confidential information. Many of the human mecha warriors most likely are ignorant of these facts as well. However, other races do exist. For one, Miss Feng Ke beside you is a member of the Phoenix Race.”
Song Junming shrugged, a helpless expression adorning his face. Looking at Feng Ke, he explained with a smile, “The most insignificant member of the Phoenix Race is much more valuable than a lowly planet like Earth. Feng Ke is, in fact, the only daughter of the Phoenix Race’s current leader. Now, you know just how noble her identity is, and also why I wanted to capture her.”
The only daughter of the Phoenix Race’s leader!
Lin Yun recalled his interactions with Feng Ke. Many things had proven just how extraordinary she was. She was privy to confidential information, owned a master-ranked mecha which she received as her birthday present, and received high-level martial arts training. With all these facts, Lin Yun had no choice but to admit that Song Junming was speaking the truth.
“The matter between the Demon and Phoenix Races is top-secret and is not something a weak human like you can participate in. I may be of the Demon Race, but I do not wish to kill you, Lin Yun. Therefore, please turn and leave. I believe that when the truth to Guo Yun’s matter is exposed, the police will no longer give you trouble.”
Song Junming smiled, stepped aside, and urged Lin Yun through with his hands.
He was offering a way out.
If Lin Yun accepted it, he would return unharmed. Guo Yun’s sins had been exposed, so he would remain a student of the Clearwater College’s special class. His future could be considered bright, with his aptitude of having a Level 4 body and Level 3 Spirit at only 16 years old. Given the fact he could utilize the Skynet Quests to quickly increase his strength, he had a chance of becoming a mecha warrior in the future. If he changed his mind and married Dongfang Ruoxue, he might even immediately become extremely influential in the Clearwater City.
If Lin Yun chose to not accept it, he would be opposing the influential members of the Demon Race. Other than the risk of being killed by the Demon Race in the future, he might be killed by Song Junming presently. It seemed to be a path leading to his death.
Song Junming looked passionately at Lin Yun, as though waiting for his answer.
Lin Yun glanced at Feng Ke, who pressed her lips together expressionlessly. He couldn’t figure out what she was thinking. However, Lin Yun noticed the beads of sweat forming on her forehead.
She seemed to not have taken a moment to rest since she flew the helicopter over to save him. Furthermore, just now, Guo Yun had punched her hard. Presently, she was faced with a dangerous situation. Were these beads of sweat formed because of fatigue, pain, or fear?
Numerous sweet memories with Feng Ke suddenly reappeared in Lin Yun’s mind.
“My name is Feng Ke, you can call me Xiao Ke.”
“Ice-cream? Hahaha, do you want to treat me to ice-cream?”
“You have such a good thing, but you didn’t tell me earlier. You’re simply asking for it.”
“Yo! Seems like I have arrived just in time!”
…
These memories played like a film tape speedily rewinding in his mind. For some unknown reason, he suddenly had the urge to see Feng Ke’s mischievous buck teeth once more.
No, that was not what he truly wanted! It was Feng Ke’s smile! Her happiness!
He had failed to realize that the cute short-haired girl had stealthily stolen his heart. At this moment, he finally understood that he had fallen for Feng Ke. Even if she did not reciprocate his feelings, and even if she belonged to the noble Phoenix Race.
Lin Yun suddenly grinned brightly, his eyes becoming moist.
“I’m sorry, Father. I can only repay my debt of gratitude in my next life.”
Song Junming and Feng Ke looked at him strangely, as Lin Yun walked slowly but resolutely to stand in front Feng Ke.
He blocked Feng Ke behind him and declared firmly. “No one can harm her, so long as I’m still alive!”
