I have Nine Lives - Chapter 136
Pandemonium ensued as the rabbits tried to fight the lions while the foxes and lions tried to escape their current predicament.
But unluckily for them, the rabbits being the rabid berserker they were. They made things really hard for both enemies and allies.
Their crazed targeting made them ignorant of their surroundings. And the fact that they were dooming everyone around them with their actions.
But even if they knew, there was still a huge chance they wouldn’t understand what it meant, and they would continue fighting.
They were simple creatures with limited insight. So they were controlled by their instincts and emotions.
The hatred for the lions was ingrained in their beings after the emperor manipulated them a little bit.
They would never let a lion escape from their sight, and they would resort to even biting them to death if they didn’t have limbs left.
They were the best death soldiers and also mass-created.
Thus the lions had quite the hard time leaving with the rabbits always harassing them with deadly intent.
The foxes, on the other hand, had an easier time as they were allies, and they weren’t blocked intentionally by them. However, due to the number of people inside the room, they were still very clustered, and they had a hard time differentiating allies from foes.
Felix would have naturally helped the troops but considering he had an important hostage right now. And the fact that the hostage dying under the collapse of space would pretty much doom this operation, it was better to leave the troops at the mercy of fate rather than gambling.
Landers and Diorno gave him control over the troops, and he knew that it would be good to come with all of them back alive, but he still needed to place the queen somewhere safe first.
He left the hollow tree and threw the queen along with some instructions towards one of the captains stationed outside waiting, for him and the troops, to return.
After making sure that everything was alright with her majesty, he then dashed right back into the bottom of the tree, where he saw that the space was already ready to collapse and that the troops were stuck fighting it out with the rabbits as they stuck to them like glue.
No matter what type of attacks they used. They just would continue their harassment until their hearts would stop beating and their heads would be severed.
The rabbits had no fear of the numerical disadvantage as it was 3:1 they even started to bring down some of the lions with them as they attacked in a suicidal fashion.
Felix was rather gloomy as he looked at what was happening in front of him, from the looks of it, it wouldn’t take much time before space would break and consume the surroundings until nothing was left behind, so he couldn’t add oil to the fire and fight it out with the rabbits.
He needed some other way to incapacitate them without stretching the already thin line. That was keeping them alive.
He knew some soul techniques and the rabbits had weak souls. Also, space wouldn’t be affected by soul attacks no matter how strong they were unless the soul was so strong that it became corporeal.
Felix took a glance around to see the formation of the battlefield and target the best point. There he could inflict the damage so his troops could return.
At first glance, he found a few weak key points that he could attack and immediately went to work as he could feel space tremble around him and weakening at a quick speed.
Wisps of soul power left Felix’s head as they transformed into long narrow spikes. That inserted themselves in the foreheads of the foremost attacking rabbits.
These rabbits clutched their heads for a few brief seconds before transforming into living dead.
They flopped to the ground, their vital signs were still normal, but their expressions were vacant, showing that their souls were destroyed.
The moment those important links in the chain that we’re keeping the majority of the troops blocked inside the room were destroyed, things took a different turn as the troops were finally able to retreat properly.
Unfortunately, even though the soul attack didn’t have any business with the surrounding collapsing space. The deaths of those forefront rabbits triggered those from behind, making them attack even harder.
It seemed like they were on steroids as their veins pulsed with immense strength, and their muscles shook while they tried to grind the lion’s troops with all of their might.
But whenever one got too close or tried to block the way of the lions, he would either fall with a seizure or get a big dumb smile on his face before collapsing to the ground.
Felix was starting to feel lightheaded as he continuously used his soul in diverse ways to attack the rabbits, their souls put little to no defense against his attempts, but there were just too many opponents for Felix’s soul to take all at once, he also tried to do it one by one. But he realized that he didn’t have enough time. Thus he attacked hundreds of them at the time.
This put quite the strain on his soul, but this could also be considered an exercise. That would strengthen his soul even further.
He reached a bottleneck with his soul, and he didn’t have the time nor the right location to train in the soul breathing technique.
So any other special exercise would have been welcomed. However, the circumstances were less than savory, which made Felix improving soul be less happy than it was supposed to.
Felix did his best to control his soul at its maximum capacity, but after a while, he realized that if he continued like this, he would pass out!
Passing out in this situation meant certain doom, and he wasn’t sure if he would be as lucky as before, meaning that if his body was caught in the collapsing space, he would die for good!
He could feel space tremble above his head and he realized that he couldn’t do anything more, he shook his head as he immediately started to rush outside the tree using his quickest speed there were still some troops left battling the last remnants of rabbits, but Felix knew they were doomed. It couldn’t be helped as the rabbits were just too suicidal!
It made Felix very annoyed in this situation, but what could he do? He already did his best, and it wasn’t enough, so he needed to leave the troops behind. They were around 120,000 left and the rabbits counted towards 30,000, but their attacks were so fierce and their defenses so high that they wouldn’t die in a short time.
Felix was ready to jump out of the hollow that was used as the entrance to the real base as he looked around and saw the few scrambling foxes who were gathering their belongings to run. It seemed that they were the last ones left.
With a small short jump, Felix left the base behind him as the sound of tearing and breaking was heard the moment he left.
He took one glance behind, only to see a rift slowly eating the 10 meters tree until nothing was left of it.
He also looked down where the base was supposed to be only to see a gigantic smooth crater seemingly as if it was made by the sharpest blade on the planet, no sign of any troops could be seen either the rabbits, lions, or the remaining foxes that were unluckily caught between the fighting duo of troops.
Everything was razed to the underground and nothing could be scavenged, and while the extended space was convenient and useful, it was also very dangerous.
But it would have been unlikely for the humans to sell defective products unless they were withholding the better things for some reason…
Felix realized something as he looked at the aftermath of the spatial collapse… the humans weren’t thrust-worthy.
He sighed as he saluted, giving a small homage to the fallen soldiers.
The captain that was holding the struggling queen which tried to bite him several times, came near Felix and saluted as well, he knew what happened, and there was no need for any explanations.
“They were good men, Sir. They might have been fresh out of the training ground recruits, but they all joined normally and they weren’t drafted. They actually looked forward to being fighting alongside you.”
Felix was puzzled:
“Fight alongside me? Why?”
The man informed Felix while keeping his head down:
“The shaman had always pushed forward your great deeds, making the teens from different parts of the continent who belonged to our tribe want to join the army of the main branch. They all looked up to you, Sir.”
Felix remained frozen for a few seconds there, but then his eyes hardened as he said:
“We have finished our mission for now but at the cost of both some promising young men and women and the future captured people of the foxes…”
Some of the foxes that were fighting in the underground along with the rabbits were able to escape, but that was a small number which was around 10% of the total number which counted to 10,000.
The fox civilians were hidden god knows where because Felix didn’t see any civilian in the tree base besides those ambassadors for the summer part.
The remainder of the fox army was also kept tightly under watch and tied up just like their queen, and they were ready to be hauled to the main base.
