I have Nine Lives - Chapter 139
“I…”
Felix was flabbergasted. He never thought they would pose such a question to him. Being the godfather of the unborn child meant that they would become family from thereon.
Felix didn’t really mind it, but it was a bit too sudden for him. He never thought that Lindo would want him to become the godfather of his child, but if he thought about it a little more. It made quite a bit of sense, considering the few people which were invited to this news.
But he wasn’t sure if he was ready to become a godfather, he actually didn’t want any family right now.
He felt like he would be inevitably tied down here if he created a family, and he didn’t like that he wanted to be free!
Felix didn’t have any dreams of the sort as he would drift with the waves, but there was one thing he couldn’t accept… being tied down somewhere.
If he became the kid’s godfather, naturally, he would have to take care of him if anything happened to Manitola and Lindo.
He wouldn’t mind doing it once or twice, but he was a person who had things to do, and he couldn’t make time for children.
He didn’t blame them as this was the best time to leave a descendant behind, he knew that this peace wouldn’t last for long, and for people like Lindo, who had only 1 life, he needed to get to work as quickly as possible.
Felix didn’t feel the need to leave his descendants behind, he really didn’t care about this part of his life, but maybe it was because he was rather unique, and there was no other one like him that could complement him, even though there was the cat tribe around. He only felt close to them but not to a high degree.
They were similar but also different, and Felix wasn’t attracted to their females to the point he wanted to mate with them he also didn’t know how that would work, considering he couldn’t transform into a humanoid form.
Felix shook his head as he cleared it from these thoughts, up till now he never had them in his head as he always focused on finishing his mission and doing good for the tribe, now that he finally had some free time and the fact that Lindo asked him to be a godfather triggered these type of questions in Felix’s head.
Now that he had a clear head, he pondered upon Lindo’s question once more, which made it quite awkward. Considering Felix just stood there for some time after he was asked and also shook his head once. Made it look like he was having a hard time deciding.
Lindo thought he would accept in a heartbeat which made him rather depressed as Felix was his only choice for a godfather, he wanted someone closer to his age to be his child’s godfather, Landers was also a choice, but he was his direct superior, and he felt like he wouldn’t want to become because of his relationship with the shaman and his father.
Felix was a unique existence in the tribe. He also his best friend and battlefield brother so technically, he was the best and only choice in Lindo’s eyes.
But he saw how Felix thought for a long while, which made him realize that he didn’t really want to be his child’s godfather. That made him rather sad, but he wouldn’t force him to do something he didn’t want to.
He finally wanted to say something, but Felix beat him to it as he opened his mouth and said:
“I’m not sure… I have never encountered such a situation and you should know it, we know each other since I have first arrived at the tribe. How much time has it been? 2 years?”
“Yeah around that time, and I understand your concerns, not many people would want to become the godfather of a future mutant or handicapped person… this would lower their prestige in the tribe, you have seen how Catro just ran away like that, while it’s true that he has work to do he also must have secretly looked down on our future progeny.”
Felix shook his head:
“No it’s not because of that reason… actually, I just fear that having someone to take care of might inhibit my future freedom.”
Lindo found his reasoning strange, being a godfather meant that he would have to take care of their child only if something happened to them. Did he really have such a low opinion of their prowess to the point that he thought that they would die soon and leave the child in his paws?
It was very farfetched thinking they were both nice and well, and the injuries they had endured on the Sparron continent had fully healed up till now with no sequelae.
Or did Felix feel some immense danger was incoming, and he thought that they wouldn’t survive it?
This put Lindo’s mind into high gear as he thought about all the things that would make Felix not want to be a godfather until Felix himself decided to continue:
“Maybe I’m thinking too much about it, there’s no reason for anything to happen to the two of you so I’m going to accept your offer, however, don’t expect me to do anything besides giving out a few gifts.”
As always, Felix would be lazy and irresponsible if it were things that didn’t concern a fight or the fate of the tribe or his training.
“Well, we are glad that you accepted.”
Lindo smiled as he patted Felix’s head. He really liked the idea of becoming relatives with Felix as he always wanted a brother, but his mother had died before another descendant could be conceived, and his father never remarried, leaving him siblingless.
He didn’t blame anyone, but he felt rather unlucky, however now that he had gained a brother that he had fought on multiple battlefields, he wanted to make things a little more official. He also wanted to marry Manitola soon.
“Before you leave Felix. You are also invited to the wedding it will be held in the backyard 3 days from now so please don’t miss it!”
Felix nodded then waved at them, before leaving the house.
He wasn’t sure how much time of relaxation he had left so he wanted to enjoy it as much as he could. While one of the reasons for not wanting to become the godfather was that he didn’t want to take care of the child, it was also mostly because he felt something big was going to happen, and even if he was the godfather, he wouldn’t have time to take care of their child if they died.
Splitting his attention on multiple paths would slow his training and strength advancement along with his wish to see the stars and fly.
He never forgot the fact that he had an attraction to outer space, even though he still didn’t feel ready yet.
He went back to the top of the inn where he did his usual activities, eating lazing around, or sunbathing, which was also lazing around but in the sun.
The day of the wedding came, and Felix came with a bouquet as a gift along with some items that he bought from a shop that Landers recommended for this occasion.
Manitola wore a white wedding dress that was short at the legs revealing her white long legs, while Lindo wore a groom suit with the difference being that his jacket was short-sleeved and his pants were short, both the groom and bride didn’t wear any type of shoes.
They were both adapted to the summer climate they were living in so they wouldn’t impede the groom and bride due to the heat.
Felix stood at the forefront of chairs as the only others present were Landers and Diorno. Catro didn’t come as he had other stuff to do.
It was a small wedding but as the priest came out to officiate it, a familiar face popped up. It was the lightning scared one that Felix couldn’t forget, Siracha!
Siracha smiled at everyone as he wore a black shaman suit which consisted of a short-sleeved dark jacket along with a white shirt underneath and some normal pants. He had a book in his hands as he was ready to officiate the ceremony.
After Siracha said whatever he needed to, the duo said their vows before kissing each other on the lips and put the wedding rings on their ring fingers.
The wedding was a resounding success as a party commenced afterward, dancing and singing was on the roll, and even the rather cold Diorno was put up on the spot by Siracha, making him dance and sing for the newlywed couple.
After that, they all had some good food, especially cooked for such occasions, and left to their own devices.
Felix went back to lazing around and training from time to time, Landers went to train recruits while Siracha had shaman things to do. As for Diorno, he was in a similar boat as Felix and did the same things as him.
Time slowly passed as the lion tribe entered a golden age, there were no more expansion wars as they had enough resources, and everyone was doing well their subordinates were also well-taken care of, so there was no reason for mutinies.
Everyone settled down doing the things they loved to and Felix even broke through to the 9th stage of the intelligence breathing technique as he had enough time to go and visit special places where he could meditate for long times.
One year passed like that, and as Felix returned to the tribe after an attempt at training in the soul breathing technique, he got the news that his godson was being born!
