I have Nine Lives - Chapter 147
“You see, this cube has mainly 2 functions, one is to gather energy and the other is to purify it.”
“Each function has a few options besides the automatic ones that you need to know.”
“The energy gathering function has three options, namely slow, medium, and fast absorption. These options are working as they are named, so I won’t have to go into a detailed explanation.”
“Each speed needs to be activated with a password. And based on how fast it is, the lower the finishing quality of the purifier will be. However, with this purifier in hand, you will never get to experience the same situation that happened to you in the simulation no matter how fast you make it gather energy.”
“This gadget was created because our soldiers had hard times adapting to spatial battles. Even though they have hex circuits in their bodies, and their bodies can create hex energy on their own, they still needed a way to recuperate quicker. But in your situation, this is the only way. To actually fight in space.”
“I will make sure to talk with the tech department to make you an armor specially constructed with more Rubix cubes in it than normal. Also, they will be manually activated by you with a mental password to make things easier.”
Felix nodded, he understood everything that Vangar explained to him, and he was ready for the real thing.
Vangar could see Felix’s eagerness as he read his eyes, but he wasn’t ready yet- he still needed to learn one more thing before he would be sent to the battlefield to accumulate more power through his special ability.
“Before I let you go by yourself, I will still need to teach you one more thing, or my higher-ups will be mad at me.”
“Even though you won’t take part in the ship’s battles because you would need systematic education of around at least 10 or so years to be qualified. You will still need to fight on battlefields that have ships, so you will need to fight with them in mind.”
“This time around, I won’t let you go in there blind like last time. Let me explain a little bit about the ship’s battles and what you will have to watch out for.”
Vangar pressed on his armor as a hologram of a battlefield appeared across the room, showing Felix a live example of a mixed battle.
He pointed towards a group of armored soldiers that were fighting dark slimy tentacled humanoids.
“Look at them and watch how they fight to enhance the pressure our ship puts on the enemies.”
There were two ships shooting laser beams at each other on the battlefield.
Those two ships weren’t getting damaged due to their energy shields, so the main fight came from the soldiers.
The soldiers needed to be mindful of the lasers and fight each other to create opportunities for the ships to launch bigger attacks so they would be able to break each others’ shields.
Such an opportunity presented itself when one soldier killed the enemy’s high commander and then launched a psionic bomb towards the ship.
It was hit head-on and thus creating a focal point where the human ship started to shoot. Breaking the shield and damaging the enemy’s ship fatally.
This was in a situation where both sides had the technology of a similar level.
The one with a lower level didn’t even need to be shown, as the results would have been obvious.
But now it was time for the battle where they were at a disadvantage to be shown.
Vangar didn’t have a live feed for that as he took out a recording from the military network that he had access to.
“These are the most important images that you will ever see, considering that you will be mostly fighting in these types of battlefields after you are fully prepared.”
The hologram changed as a bloody battlefield appeared now.
Corpses riddled with different types of injuries floated in space, as the human’s battleship was slowly getting overwhelmed by the enemies.
This time the enemies were tall humanoids with blue skin and gills on their cheeks.
They had elongated faces like a horse, and they wore technologically advanced armors that had a head protection device filled with a green liquid substance.
The humans were at a disadvantage as they tried their best to create an opportunity for their ship to break the opponent’s ship. However, the blue-skinned aliens always took out some type of gadget that either blocked or halted the attempts of creating the breakthrough point for the humans.
This lowered the morale until the aliens started to retaliate by throwing their gadgets towards the human soldiers.
The gadgets they threw around were highly compressed explosives. And the moment they arrived above the formation of the human soldiers they exploded into a rainbow of colors, engulfing everyone below. And also cracking the shield of the ship behind them.
When this happened, the morale hit rock bottom as they pretty much lost the battle.
But things didn’t stop there. The aliens continued to massacre every human soldier. Before they moved on to the ship, destroying it thoroughly and leaving no survivors.
Then the image started to slowly go blurry, as the device that was recording the battle was found and destroyed.
Felix nodded as the battle finished, and he asked:
“Are these the invaders that are going to come to battle us?”
Vangar shook his head as he said:
“No, this is an old recording of our nemesis, the blue-gilled merfolk, we have been fighting over a location filled with important strategical resources, and as time passed, we have gotten ahead of their technology. But you should understand that’s how most battles where we are at a disadvantage happen.”
“Now that you have an example of how and what you should do, it’s time to get back into the simulation helmet as we shall do one more simulation. Before we will send you to the real battlefield under another senior general.”
Felix nodded as he understood, then plopped on the leather chair.
Vangar came and helped Felix with his helmet putting it on his head.
After that, Felix was dragged back into his mental palace, where the simulation began.
Felix opened his eyes as he found himself once more in the nothingness of space, the only illumination coming from the nearby stars.
Now, he was in a different position compared to before. His back was placed against a gigantic ship, as he and some other soldiers were supposed to defend it with all their might.
The enemies in front of them were similar to the blue-gilled merfolk in technology, so Felix knew that the simulation was most likely the same. As what Vangar showed him.
Felix slowly started to power up. Trying to take the attention of the enemies as he knew that he couldn’t let them touch the shield of the ship with any of their gadgets.
If any of their technological wizzes hit the shield, the battle would become half lost.
They were at a technological disadvantage, and the only expert the human side had was Felix.
The good thing was that there were no strong people on the enemy’s side.
Felix could have sensed if there were. But the only danger that he could sense using killing intent detection were the gadgets the aliens were having strapped all over their bodies.
Felix’s aura didn’t have a stop button as it increased till it engulfed the squadron. That was surrounding him.
He could feel countless eyes being pointed at him as he attracted the attention of all of the enemies.
They knew that to destroy the ship. They must first kill the morale of the defenders so they could create a crack in the defense. And ultimately win the battle.
But they didn’t take into account that someone would be strong enough. To be able to destroy their technology using only raw strength.
Felix’s aura wasn’t for show only as he unleashed his full power, the Rubix cubes in his armor activated and sucked in the surrounding energy at medium speeds.
Unlike before, the simulation already gave Felix a Rubix cube armor, and that meant he wouldn’t have to hold back in fear of getting poisoned by the mixed energy of space.
All of the items that the aliens were throwing or using at Felix didn’t have much effect on him, lasers, very sharp chainsaws made of an unknown tempered metal, lightsabers, photonic bombs.
All of those items were thrown- towards Felix and his allies. In the hopes that one of them would either skewer or explode him to bits.
But Felix either threw them back before they could explode or used his naturally tempered body to take the hits that he wouldn’t be able to dodge.
However, he also had to tank some hits from these attacks, or else the weapons would strike the shield of the ship and break it.
And if that happened, the soldiers would become sitting ducks to the weapons of the enemy’s ship.
Felix almost vomited some blood as a heavy sphere hit him directly. The sphere was way bigger than his body, so it almost squished him against the ship’s shield.
But with a mighty shout, he returned the sphere to his enemies, creating a vacuum in their formation as the sphere broke into pieces and exploded from the rebound force.
He was slowly getting more used to the ‘defend the tower’ play mode.
