I have Nine Lives - Chapter 167
Felix didn’t know what the president was playing at, but he decided to look where he was pointing instead of questioning him.
He looked in the pointed direction as he saw many people looking around the marketplace to buy their daily necessities.
He didn’t feel this was anything interesting, so he glanced back at the president and asked:
“Why did you point me to them?”
The president smiled and shook his head as he looked down at the normal people of the federation running around, doing their daily chores, and living a relatively normal life.
“You don’t understand them, do you?”
Felix shook his head, he couldn’t understand normal people anymore as he hadn’t been normal in his life, even when he was a cat, he didn’t do these types of things.
The president continues to point around as he says:
“A mother and her children eat dinner without their father.”
“A father works at the factory for an extended Time so his family can eat what they want and when they want.”
“An old man dies from old age and a child is born in a nearby hospital.”
“Life goes on.”
Felix continued to look around at the things that the president was pointing at. From the top of the tower, Felix could see everything in this part of the metropolis even through the houses of the people.
He could see all of them enjoying themselves, crying, playing, living.
They were acting normally as they were all in the unknown about the upcoming invasion of the planet.
They were all peaceful compared to the tribes that were not under the jurisdiction of the humans.
They weren’t fighting and they only learned how to fight as a sport. That was unless they were found to be talented and then drafted into the military.
Felix could feel the peace seeping into his bones, it was something that he had never experienced before. This was the first time he was this peaceful since he arrived on this plane of existence.
Even during the ‘peaceful’ times at the lion tribe, army personnel were still moving around and doing missions. There was never any peace to speak of.
Everything was chaotic everywhere he looked.
Fights were happening no matter how good the resources situation was.
The tribes always wanted more. The same could be said about humans, but there was a difference between the two.
That being the atmosphere of the civilians.
They were way more peaceful as they were in the unknown about what was going to happen to them.
They could die the next second, but at least they wouldn’t die while being panicked.
Sometimes being the unknown was better.
They could live peacefully. And in momentary bliss, as they wouldn’t know what would happen tomorrow, they could do what they want and when they want without any worries.
It was something that made Felix’s expression ease up a bit as he looked around. He liked this type of peace.
He had been into battles ever since he came to this plane, he had fought and fought, and he never got to enjoy himself more than a few years. He enjoyed battles, but after time they started to get troublesome.
They weren’t that enjoyable anymore. He felt like they were a chore.
He always asked himself why was he doing this, for who was he doing this?
Because he knew that he wasn’t doing it for himself.
Felix knew that he was being used to the advantage of others, but he didn’t mind at first. It was because he was thoroughly enjoying the fights that he was being given.
It was because he loved what he was doing.
But things changed, Felix’s soul and thinking evolved along with his body, and he realized that fighting wasn’t everything. He was missing something, but he didn’t know what.
Was it a goal? Was it not having loved ones- that he would want to protect?
He didn’t know what to do. Should he even help the humans anymore?
Then he looked down once again, but this time the president didn’t point any place where he should look at.
He just felt like he should look down at that moment.
And he saw something that made him think.
On an alleyway, a 9 years old girl was being pushed around by a sketchy dude in a cloak, it seemed that the man wasn’t having any good thoughts about the girl, and then Felix looked at the president who was keeping his hands inside his pockets as if he didn’t even see what was happening in front of him.
It was like he was blind, and as Felix looked around, he realized that this society wasn’t only rainbows and puppies.
The peace was happening only on the surface, but on the underground, things stood different.
Some criminals and crooks wanted everything they could get in every situation. No matter if they were in human society or the other tribe’s societies.
They lived relatively normal lives, but that wasn’t enough for them. However, the strange thing was that the government didn’t do anything against them.
The president of the federation could see everything that was happening, but he didn’t dispatch any armed forces of the government.
He just watched as the girl was dragged into the alleyway, where unspeakable things were most likely awaiting her.
This could be all prevented, but why didn’t anyone do anything?
Felix was puzzled. The humans couldn’t keep their weaker evil counterparts in check?
However, he didn’t help the little girl either. Which made the president’s lone eye be filled with disappointment.
He thought that he could appeal to Felix’s unborn heroic soul and trigger something in him with these visual images, something that would make him a little bit more human-like.
To give him a moral compass and try to attach him more to the federation and its allies.
However, he realized something the moment Felix didn’t fly down to the alleyway to confront the gangster that was kidnapping the child.
Felix was in a dark place right now. He didn’t know what to do and how to do it. Even though the invasion of the enemies was really close to them. Which put them in a very dangerous position.
The president wanted to quicken this process in the most peaceful way possible, so he directly sent a message to make this charade could end for now.
It seemed that appealing to Felix’s new human side wasn’t going to cut it out.
He had been a humanoid for a very short time, and he didn’t have many if any interactions with other humans while in his humanoid form.
He didn’t know how humans worked or thought, he hadn’t been in a society that exposed him to these things.
He was merciless and cold even to the young, but his file didn’t say those things, it seemed he had evolved this way during his last trip…
He had monitored some of his fights during the time he was on the planet, but he never saw him acting abnormal or strange. Even after he evolved, he looked rather normal to the leader of the federation.
What could have triggered such a heavy change in personality to the point that he didn’t care about anything anymore?
Felix was looking down at everything that was happening below the tower and into the city. While the leader thought about Felix’s behavioral changes.
The newly made humanoid didn’t know what to say as he looked down at the chaotic events around being stopped by the law enforcement… then he looked at the president who was mumbling behind him.
He realized that this was just an intricated scheme to make him feel something, but he didn’t hate the man for doing it. He actually wanted to feel something as well, but it would most likely not happen in the human’s territory as he had no type of attachments here at all.
Maybe he could start feeling again if he went back to the lion tribe… that was where he had the most emotional attachments, and he also had a godson there.
Felix decided to visit them as maybe something would change in him if he saw his godson and friend.
He looked towards the president as he opened his mouth to ask for a leave:
“Mr. President… I think I have seen enough here, might I be allowed to go back to the lion tribe? I have some people there that might change my outlook on things.”
The president nodded, forcing Felix into this situation wasn’t something he wanted to do. He was both talented and a god’s chosen, so he couldn’t be controlled anyways. And in such a situation things needed to be handled delicately.
“I will teleport you there directly, so you won’t have the hassle of going back on your own.”
Felix shook his head as he said:
“Just teleport me back to the forest where I first entered. I don’t want to go back there like that. I still have some thinking to do before I arrive.”
The president nodded and said:
“I understand, I hope you will come back with peace of mind and good news because we are ready to continue the plan to its full capacity. You shall ascend to the level of the ultimate warriors of our tribe, and even above to be able to fight against the invaders…”
Felix’s silhouette started to slowly disappear from the top of the tower as the president shook his head and decided to go back inside and sighed while doing so:
“This is so troublesome… but this is the way we live, even if we didn’t provoke them at first… they would have still come later.”
