I Just Want Peace - Chapter 4 Midnight Visitors
“Mmm,” Alex snores lightly, flipping on his right side and continue to dream.
“Leave. . . . . Idiot,” Alex mumbles sleepily. He grips onto the white, blank sheet with his left hand.
A nurse had came in while Alex slept and kindly pulled the blanket up to his neck.
The nurse also quietly and carefully pry the box from Alex’s left hand and set it on the bedside table. When the nurse found it, the box was already closed. Therefore, he didn’t see the unique candies inside.
He was little bit curious about the box since Alex had a tight grip on it but it’s rude to peek. Thus the nurse contain himself and continue his duties.
The nurse did some checks, collected the knife and plate without a clink. Then left quietly as a thieving mouse escaping from a snoozing cat. Softly closing the door behind him, not making a single sound and disturbing Alex.
Alex slept peacefully, ignorant to the scene unfolding.
:. Hallway 2 .:
“Are you sure it’s here?” A deep, baritone voice ask.
“Room 200, Sheridan Brooke Walker,” a smooth, crystal clear voice replied. Scratching his head with his index finger as if scratching answer out of his head. Pondering for a bit then shook his head. “His name is 4 letters and has an A. Something like Alec or Alex.”
“I shouldn’t have let you drive that 3,000 pounds death trap,” the man with a low, obsidian like voice sighed.
“Don’t worry so much Kavalan.” The pleasant voice man pats Kavalan on the shoulder. “I already administered healing magic on him so he won’t die and his body should heal itself correctly. But I should do another check to be sure he’s ok.”
Peeling the hand off of him, Kavalan said, “Dalton, is this him? 201, Alex Pham.”
“Mm I think so.” After serving the area for any signs of life, the 2 quietly the two slip into Alex’s hospital room, like sneaky thieves. Kavalan lagging behind being extra cautious. He then tried his best to close the door silently but couldn’t stop the small click.
Dalton looks over at the door as Kavalan turns around and face him. Dalton then tiptoe over to Alex and readjust his ‘glasses’.
Alex felt a slight discomfort as if someone other than him is in the room. He half open eyes sleepily looks straight at Dalton standing stiff in front of him. As if Dalton was invisible Alex didn’t stare long at him, his gaze then swept across the room stopping at the door on his far right. Feeling the click was his imagination, Alex rolls over and continue to sleep peacefully. Drool slowly forms and drips in a snail pace out of the corner of his mouth.
Dalton freezes for a full minute before he felt it’s safe to move again. He looks over at Kavalan and when they made eye contact, Kavalan looks out the window on the door then nods his head. Hovering his hand above Alex’s chest, Dalton mumers a few words of an unknown language and soon lime green light filled the dark hospital room. Kavalan stood in front of the door window to prevent the light from spilling into the empty hall.
[I don’t see anything wrong, everything healing probably. Ugh, I feel really guilty. I really want to fully heal him but it would raise suspicion in this magicless world.] Dalton transmit his thoughts to Kavalan.
[Best to save your magic and keep a low profile. We can’t be exposed before we finish our mission.] Kavalan telepathy told Dalton.
[Yeah. . . Oh!] Before dismissing the healing circle light, Dalton glanced up to the box on the table.
[What is it?]
[It the box I give to the little girl earlier] After ensuring Alex’s body is healing correctly, Dalton retracts his hand. Sneaking a peep at Alex and seeing no movement from him. Dalton then stealthy walk around Alex’s bed and stand in front of the bedside table.
[What are you doing?] Kavalan warns.
[I’m just taking a piece. Stop being such a worry wart] Dalton wave away Kavalan’s warning. He quietly lifts the box, cautiously peeking at Alex over his shoulder. Confident that Alex is not going to wake up. Dalton opens the box and casually took a raindrop candy.
Dalton glimpse inside for a second but then immediately fixed his gaze back inside the box. His brow furrowed, his mouth slightly open and frowning. But shook his head before placing the raindrop candy onto his tongue.
Then calculating how the box was placed before, he carefully put the box back like he was artist carefully painting his last stoke on his masterpiece.
Then as if Dalton was walking on air, he soundlessly step out of Alex’s room and the hospital, together with Kavalan.
:. Security Room .:
The dozing guard snap after watching movement in hall 2. Seeing 2 men outside room 200 area he immediately became alert. The guard was about call a nearby guard to detain the two when suddenly the tallest one of the 2 looks straight at him.
Shivering, he felt like his soul was pierce through and examined closely under his watchful gaze.
Not a second passed before the guard drops his walkie talkie and slump over his desk. Lucky not to spill his coffee as it was push out the way by his arm. Due to the cup close to empty it only swoosh around a bit before it calm down like the flat, vast ocean.
When his shift change the guard got scolded by his fellow co-worker for sleeping on the job. Got off by being told he was lucky that nothing happened after reviewing the cameras.
When the lazy guard walked out of the room he couldn’t help but think something had happened but he couldn’t remember anything. He shrug it off since they didn’t find anything and continue to slave the night away.
