Car Accident pt.2

There were only two people left in the office.
Si Mingchen returned to his desk and sat down wearily, his eyes falling on the divorce agreement.
The pain that pounded in his temples gradually hit him, and Si Mingchen opened the drawer and took out a painkiller and swallowed it.
Jiang Chengshu shot a worried glance, “Did you two quarrel?”
Si Mingchen didn’t say anything, leaning back in his chair as if his whole body had been drained of strength, a pale and tired look appearing on his face.
The other party obviously had something on his mind, so Jiang Yangshu didn’t say anything more, and took the box out of his bag and put it next to Si Mingchen’s hand.
“You asked me to customize a ring for your fourth wedding anniversary. I’ve made it.”
Si Mingchen said hoarsely, “Thank you.”
“Rest for a while if you don’t feel well.” Jiang Chengshu frowned worriedly, “My boyfriend is still waiting for me, I’ll go first.”
Si Mingchen turned to Special Assistant Wen, who was waiting outside the door, “Send Jiang Chengshu down for me.”
Special Assistant Wen nodded, “Roger.”
After Jiang Changshu left, Si Mingchen picked up the ring box and gently opened it. The two anniversary rings engraved with his and Wen Zhi’s names were lying quietly inside.
After four years of marriage, it seemed that he had never given Wen Zhi a ring. Remembering a month ago, Wen Zhi looked at the rings given by Ming Yantang’s boyfriend with particular envy.
When Si Mingchen saw this, he asked Jiang Chengshu, who was a jewellery designer, to design one for them.
Si Mingchen picked up the ring engraved with Wen Zhi’s name, and let out a bitter smile.
Before they got married, he knew that Wen Zhi had a long-time crush on someone, but he still used every means to bring him home.
He had hoped that time would change everything, that Wen Zhi would one day fall in love with him and forget about that person, but now he seemed to be deceiving himself.
He had been in love with Wen Zhi for eleven years, since the day he started counting. His sophomore year of high school was the darkest time in his life. When his parents died, his relatives betrayed him. He became more and more reticent, nothing could excite him, and he might have given up on himself if it wasn’t for his parents’ fishy car accident.
It was at this point that he met Wen Zhi, and the moments when they spent time together almost filled in the irreparable happiness during those years.
Unfortunately, all the good that Wen Zhi did for him was because of that man. His so-called happiness was nothing more than a glimmer of sunlight passing over him.
He tried to fight for it, but at that time he had no background, no family, and could not be responsible for giving Wen Zhi a commitment that would even drag him down.
These factors made him anxious and doubly stressed.
On the day he was rejected by Wen Zhi, Wen Zhi blocked out all his contacts and avoided him like a snake.
He waited helplessly outside Wen Zhi’s house from dark to dawn, and finally gave up.
Two months later, he followed his second uncle’s arrangement to study abroad.
Then later, he used all his means to join up with the Wen family and get connected with a marriage, but he never expected the marriage to end in regret.
He knew Wen Zhi’s character, childish and impatient, who couldn’t bear loneliness, a pure optimist, sometimes very petulant, and yet overly sensitive with a somewhat young master’s temper.
But after they got married, Wen Zhi was like a completely different person. He was very cold to him, not joking, not chatting, never asking questions when he came home late, and he was never jealous.
The two got along more like familiar friends.
Perhaps from the beginning, this wishful relationship was destined to end.
With an unspeakable pain in his eyes, Si Mingchen leaned back in his chair, and didn’t realise it was getting late until the moon shone outside into the darkened office.
At this time, it was nine o’clock in the evening.
He thought of Wen Zhi uncontrollably, speculating that the other party should be packing his bags by now.
Reason told him that he should not go home, and that leaving the two of them in good standing was the adult way to part.
But his heart twisted at the thought that, piece by piece, Wen Zhi’s belongings were disappearing from the house.
Grabbing his blazer, he stumbled out of the office and drove home, not caring whether his tie was neat and tidy.
In front of the house, Wen Zhi’s luggage had already been loaded into the car, and he was holding an ugly winter melon doll in his arms.
This doll was given to him by Si Mingchen in his second year of high school.
After parking the car in the courtyard, Si Mingchen walked towards Wen Zhi.
“Have you packed your things?”
Seeing Si Mingchen, Wen Zhi was a little surprised and nodded with a pair of red and swollen almond eyes, “Hm.”
Si Mingchen gazed into Wen Zhi’s eyes.
‘Was Wen Zhi crying?’
‘Why was he crying?’
‘Shouldn’t he be happy to divorce him?’
Maybe after tonight, the two of them will cross paths less and less. Si Mingchen suppressed the panic he had never felt before and said in a low voice, “I’ll take you there, the road is bad and the street lights are dark.”
Wen Zhi lowered his eyes, “No, you rest, I can do it myself.”
After staring at Wen Zhi for a long time, Si Mingchen did not let him go and carried the suitcase to his car.
“I’ll see you off for the last time.”
Wen Zhi opened his mouth, pursed his lips and sat back down with his ugly winter melon doll in his arms.
The road to the manor was remote and the drive took an hour.
Inside the car, the atmosphere between the two was heavy and there was basically no communication.
“Has the estate’s security system been checked? It’s not safe for you to be on your own at night.”
Wen Zhi huffed, “I’ll get it tomorrow, l’ll make do for one night tonight.”
Si Mingchen looked at the road and handed him a tissue for him to blow his nose.
Time went by little by little, and the time the two would spend together in the future was slowly becoming less.
When they arrived at the entrance of the manor, Si Mingchen helped Wen Zhi carry his suitcase in and found that Wen Zhi had not taken much with him.
This manor, although not lived in often, was cleaned regularly twice a week, so it was clean enough to move in straight away.
“All the things in the house, have you brought everything?” Si Mingchen asked, standing at the door.
Wen Zhi nodded, “Yes.”
Si Mingchen, “Do you have all those watches with you?”
Wen Zhi, “I brought two of them.”
Si Mingchen knew how much Wen Zhi loved the cabinet full of watches, and every time he made an announcement, he would spend half a day picking out the right colour to show off.
But Wen Zhi actually didn’t bring those things, instead he brought the ugly winter melon he gave Wen Zhi.
Perhaps he was unwilling to do so, but before he left, Si Mingchen stood at the door and thought for a long time before finally speaking with difficulty, “Wen Zhi, if you regret–”
A hurried ringtone cut him off.
Wen Zhi answered the phone, “Hello, Brother Sang Qi.”
At this moment, Si Mingchen’s words were blocked in his throat, his eyes obscure and disappointed.
Sang Qi, the senior student whom Wen Zhi had a crush on, was also Si Mingchen’s cousin.
Si Mingchen’s legs felt as if they were filled with lead, and every step he took was unusually heavy. After getting into the car, he quickly started the engine and disappeared into the night.
As the car sped along the highway, he stopped at an arch bridge on the way to the estate.
Next to it was a river, dark and vast, lifted by the cold wind.
The window slowly opened and a narrow, slender hand landed on the black door, a lit cigarette in its fingers.
Si Mingchen looked at the river in silence, disappointed and helpless.
With a soft thud, the two rings disappeared into the river with the water waves.
This was the second time that Si Mingchen had given up on Wen Zhi.

The estate is very large and has a regular aunt who cleans it. Wen Zhi woke up early in the morning to the sound of birds chirping outside his window and had to order himself a takeaway for breakfast.
It was supposed to be his bachelor party tonight, but he had cried all night last night, and if Ming Yantang and the others saw him, they might laugh at him.
After checking the message his agent had sent him, Wen Zhi drove to the large supermarket five kilometres away to do some shopping.
It was a weekend and there were many cars passing by. Wen Zhi’s eyes were hurting badly, so he was going to buy some hot compresses to relieve them, otherwise it would be too humiliating for his friends to know.
The sun was blinding and a cement truck was driving across the road.
Usually cement trucks are very slow, but this one seemed to be speeding.
Wen Zhi frowned slightly, he was ready to avoid it, only to find the cement truck pressing uncontrollably across the solid line and crashing towards him.
Wen Zhi was just thinking in his mind that he couldn’t be so unlucky as to have an accident when, with a loud bang, everything around him slowly turned dark.
……
“Mr. Wen’s brain CT shows that he may be experiencing transient memory loss, but the exact manifestation of this, again, needs to be observed.”
Wen Qishan looked at his assistant anxiously, “Where is Si Mingchen? It’s been half a day since my son’s accident, where is he?”
The assistant nodded, “Don’t worry, I’ll continue to call Mr. Si.”
Wen Qishan clutched his chest, which was stuffy, “Doctor, did my son have any other organ injuries? Did he only hurt his brain? Will he become a vegetable?”
The doctor said in disbelief, “No.”
A ray of light shone into Wen Zhi’s dark world. Half asleep, he heard a familiar voice talking to someone in his ear.

The pain in his body was so severe that Wen Zhi let out a stifled grunt of pain.
Yesterday, he didn’t seem to have done anything. Why was it like stealing a landmine?
Wen Zhi opened his eyes with difficulty, his mind slowly turning.
Today, he seemed to have an important thing to do.
What was it again?
Wen Zhi bounced up abruptly, “Where’s the love letter I wrote to my Big Baby
