I Loved You You Changed Me - Volume 1
The police then handcuffed him and pushed him inside the car. Ashton looked outside the window at Kate who was standing there without any emotions in her eyes. He glared at him one last time before the car left the vicinity. Kate then turned around and spoke to the other police officers. The case was finally closed and Ashton was behind the bars, just like Susie planned everything… Now she had to help Susie’s mom to prepare for the funeral.
The next morning, a lot of people gathered at the church. These included Kate, Susie’s mom, her classmates and other school friends and few neighbours. The body was laid in the casket where Susie laid with absolute peace on her face, as if she did not die of blood loss.
After a while the ceremony started and everybody came forward one by one to offer their prayers. Susie’s mom was silently crying. She was trying very hard to control herself, but her face and eyes were already red. After offering her prayers, Kate came forward.
She simply looked at Susie’s face in the casket. Without any emotion she just stared at her body and then came back to her seat. Some people started whispering on how Kate was not even affected by Susie’s death, but Kate maintained her stoic and cold expression.
In another hour, they closed her casket and laid it in the ground and burried it. The ceremony was over and everyone started leaving.
Everyone but one. The one who stayed back was none other than Kate.
She sat in her place until everyone left. No one asked her why she wasn’t leaving. Susie’s mom had left before the ceremony ended since she couldn’t see her only daughter like that.
After everyone left, Kate stood up and walked towards Susie’s grave. She pulled out a bouquet of lilies, Susie’s favourite flower and placed it on top of the grave along with the other flowers. Then she removed her shoes and sat on the bare ground without caring even a bit about her dress.
“Hi Susie. You know what!!! I did what you wanted! Ashton is behind the bars, exactly how you planned.!!
I never knew you were so smart!!! Damn!! You might be smarter than me!! Huh!!!
Hahahhahahahhaah…uhuh… uhuh….. ”
Kate’s laughter changed into wailing. I am sorry Susie, that I couldn’t protect myself, I am so stupid. So so so stupid! I wished Ashton would have actually harmed me instead of you being like. Why did you have to care about me?? Even after I shouted at you? Even after I chose that bastard over you? WHY!!!? Answer me!”
Kate started crying again but this time her voice was clouded with the sudden rain that started. It was as if Susie’s soul was surrounding her voice so that she won’t be able to hear her crying. She never wanted to hear or see Kate crying. Kate was bawling her eyes out without speaking anything.
After an hour she calmed down a bit, even the rain was slowly stopping even though the sky was still cloudy with black clouds.
“Su… I know you did all of this for me.. I’ll make sure I move forward in life now…I’ll fulfill all the wishes that we had together. I’ll go and travel to all those places where you always wanted to go as well. I’ll won’t let you down. I’ll always miss you Su. I’ll always miss you Susie…. You said, you didn’t like me crying, so I stopped… Today I didn’t even cry in front of so many people at your ceremony. See? I am getting stronger. Just this once…let me cry my heart out… You won’t ever see any tears from my eyes now… I promise you ..I’ll never stay the same… I’ll change… I’ll change.”
Kate then stayed silent for a moment and looked down on the ground. Then she again looked at Susie’s photo in front of her.
“Su, I am leaving for Japan. I don’t want to live here. At least not for now. I got accepted in the famous Yen university* there. I’ll be doing a major in artificial intelligence and computer sciences. I won’t be back for a while now. I will take care of myself! Watch over me okay?” Kate then showed a bright toothy smile. Then she touched her picture, picked up her bag and left without turning back even once.
The rain had stopped. The grass around Susie’s grave was shining with sliver of water on them. The wind was cool and a ray of sunshine was hitting Susie’s grave, as if Susie was smiling and saying –
‘I’ll be watching over you’
