I Refuse To Be A Character In A Novel - Chapter 38
Inas waved her hands frantically in order to reassure her.
“Don’t worry. It’s nothing bad.”
She continued after Dina breathed a sigh of relief.
“I met my friend who works at the Argentine dukedom yesterday. Apparently, they’re preparing to receive the Duchess and the young master this summer.”
While changing into a lighter dress, Dina listened attentively as Inas recounted the story in more detail.
“I, for one, have missed her terribly. I can’t even imagine how you must be feeling. How could she not visit at all? Madam. You must give me permission to scold the young miss upon her return.”
“It would be best if you didn’t do that.”
‘Because I was the one who asked her to never return.Unless-’
“I know how much you miss her even if you don’t say so. You used to cry a lot after her marriage too. I suppose it’s because the young miss was very young back then.”
“Of course I miss my daughter… But mostly, I worry about her.’
“I’m glad you sent Mielle over with her. That girl is much more reliable than she lets on.”
Dina nodded absentmindedly.
9 years ago, in fear that the maids working under the Argentines would treat her daughter carelessly if the duke didn’t set a proper example, the Marchioness assigned Mielle for Erna.
‘Why is she returning after all this time? Maybe…’
Dina shook her head at the thought that passed through.
After all, expectations were the root of all disappointment.

Last winter, in a chilling storm of snow, a gate appeared in the north.
Through the gate, three people appeared.
The news was kept secret from the public in order to avoid needless commotion.
However, rumors spread among the few who knew about them.
Some said that they might be a new manifestation of Maghulls, and a greater danger was seeping in.
Others bluffed at their fear. They said that they should be more wary of humans.
What if another nation had secretly learnt to use magic?
A few of them claimed that those people might be their saviors—the ones who would finally rid them of monsters.
The duke’s report however blew all of their expectations away.
The people who crossed over were ordinary humans.
