I Refuse To Be Fate’s Puppet - Chapter 68
Arata looked over and saw that the two blonde students, Horace and Horadio, were still on stage. It seems like they were going to compete again. That was perfect for Arata. He had noticed something strange about their tactics and their attacks, he wanted to put his theory to work. He turned to the twins, Jada and Jaden.
“I think I know how their powers work. I want you two to fight from a distance, don’t let them get near you, and don’t go near them. Understood?”
“Yes, sir.”
The twins answered and nodded their heads in unison. They then looked to the stage, glaring at the two blonde students. As they walked on to the stage, the two blonde students eyes lit up. The young grinned.
“Ooh, a fellow sibling duo. This should be interesting.”
The girl nodded as she grinned as well.
“Indeed. I do wish for a pleasant battle. Do entertain us.”
Jada and Jaden cringed as they looked over in disgust. They both answered in unison.
“Don’t compare yourselves to us!”
The grins on Horace and Horadio’s faces slowly came down.
“Sister, I believe that they are looking down on us.”
“Agreed. They are most definitely looking down on us.”
Jada and Jaden shook their heads. These siblings were just too cringe worthy with the way that they spoke. Arata and Tallis looked at the twins curiously.
“Do they seem angry to you?”
Tallis nodded his head.
“They are clearly frustrated. They clearly don’t like this Horace and Horadio duo.”
Jada and Jaden stared at their opponents with a cold fury that baffled Arata. Why are they so mad? The teacher stepped between the two sets of twins and raised his hand. The four students got ready for the battle. The teacher shot out a flame and the battle began. The four students stayed where they were, except that Jada and Jaden were chanting quickly.
Powerful gusts of wind began to rush around the arena, some of the students even needed to circulate their Energy just to keep themselves from blowing away. The wind then surged towards Jada and Jaden, circling around them. The blonde twins saw this and glanced at each other.
“Shall we push forward, sister?”
“That sounds like a great idea, brother.”
As they spoke, the looks on Jada and Jaden’s faces went sour as they both shouted out in unison.
“Annoying!”
Horace and Horadio rushed forward, running straight towards to circling wind. Jada and Jaden focused their Energies as the winds collected rapidly, speeding up, creating two giant hurricanes, one around each of them. Arata grinned as he noticed that the two hurricanes were circling in opposite directions, one clockwise and the other anticlockwise. He smirked in anticipation, seeing whether or not they had been able to pull it off or not.
Horace and Horadio’s faces seemed to darken at the sights of the two raging hurricanes before them. They did their best to get as close as the could to Jada and Jaden, but as the wind picked up, they realized that they couldn’t progress any further. The wind began vibrating, creating blades of air within the raging wind. They knew that they would be sliced a part if they got to close. The two blonde twins looked at each other.
“Sister, I think it’s time to shut these two down.”
“I concur, brother.”
They ran together, grabbing each others hand and rushing towards one of the hurricanes, Jada’s hurricane. She smirked as she saw them approach. She moved here hurricane towards them, letting it rampage and slice up the ground as it approached the twins. The twins brought their hands forward, creating a large black hole together. This black hole clashed against the hurricane, and the two forces pushed against each other. Slowly, the winds died down and the black hole shrank, until both had disappeared.
Once it had disappeared, the twins rushed forward to attack Jada, but they were stunned to find that she had already retreated within Jaden’s hurricane. They were obviousoy not happy about that and were slightly drained from taking on the hurricane. Arata grinned on the side.
“I thought so. Their ability is to reflect and redirect Physical attacks, but with Energy and Elemental attacks, they have to defeat it. They aren’t able to deflect it like Physical attacks. Going up against Jada and Jaden is a definite bad match up for them.”
Tallis understood Arata’s words instantly and grinned as well. Jada and Jaden were powerful Sorcery users, so as long as they stayed away from Horace and Horadio, maintaining their distance, they would be at an advantage. It was also clear that they were more drained from that exchange than Jada was. She rushed over to Jaden and was able to quickly refill her Elemental Reservoir with her brothers help.
Jaden began to send Energy into the hurricane around him as it began to speed up. The twins then began to walk forward, the hurricane moving forward with them. Horace and Horadio went serious as they retreated immediately, understanding that a head on collision with them at this moment would be disadvantageous right now. They needed to get past the wind to deal any damage to them.
They rushed towards the hurricane, hands held, and summoned up another black hole. Jaden sent the hurricane forward to meet the black hole, while Jada summoned up another hurricane, allowing Jaden inside after he had unleashed his one. The black hole clashed with the hurricane and they both cancelled each other out. Horace and Horadio could see that they needed to take them down one at a time so they couldn’t rely on each other anymore.
Horace then noticed that the attack, when they send the hurricane forward, simply goes in a straight line. If they split up, they can only send the hurricane at one of them, and they other can rush in to deal the finishing blow. They looked at each other.
“It seems we need to deal with them one at a time, sister.”
“I agree, brother. We will need to divide them to conquer them.”
The two twins split and dashed to opposite ends of the stage, going for a pincer attack against Jada and Jaden. They smirked in response.
“You call yourself a ‘sibling duo’ and your plan of attack is to split up?”
Jada and Jaden went back to back, each facing an opponent each. They both clapped loudly before thrusting their hands to the sides, sending their Energies out. The surging hurricane exploded in power as it formed giant walls of raging wind in an X formation on the stage, with Jada and Jaden in the center.
The twins from Class 1 realized that they were now trapped in the corners of the stage on opposite ends. Jada and Jaden began to close their arms slowly. As they did, the raging wind walls also began to close, closing in on Horace and Horadio. They began to panic as they tried to attack the closing wall, but they were just cut and deflected by the powerful winds. They didn’t know how they were going to get through without the aid of their sibling, but they had been separated. They had been trapped.
Jada and Jaden smirked as they continued to slowly close the walls. Horace and Horadio tried everything they could to stop or breakthrough the walls, but they were unable to do any real damage to the wind without the other twin. Jada and Jaden spoke in unison.
“A true sibling duo would know that true power is in unity.”
From the very beginning, they disliked the Class 1’s so called “sibling duo”, because they were trying to pull off that they were of one mind, one accord. But they clearly weren’t. They didn’t know what the other was thinking, which was why they had the need to constantly talk. Although it sounded like they knew each other, bouncing off of each other with the way they spoke and agreed, it was just cringe inducing to Jada and Jaden.
They took the title of “sibling duo” seriously. They worked tirelessly to perfect their cohesion, understanding each other and becoming of one mind. The display that Horace and Horadio gave off, the forced impression that they were completely “in sync”. It disgusted them immensely. Horace and Horadio shouted at each other from across the stage.
“The only way back to each other is through them, sister.”
“I think that also, brother.”
They both ran to the center point, where Jada and Jaden stood. They both stopped closing the gap, letting the blonde twins run towards them. They brought their hands up and back down to their chests before pausing with their palms facing the oncoming twins. They spoke again together, as if they were a single voice.
“Your sloppy teamwork pales in comparison with true unity.”
There was a sudden surge of Energy on the twins, this Energy coalescing in their palms. Horace and Horadio charged forward, roaring as they drew nearer to Jada and Jaden. They solidified their Energy as wind surged around their arms. They smirked as they thrust their palms forward. Two powerful blades of wind rushed forward, one striking Horace, the other striking Horadio. They tried to stop it, but the pure power behind the attack was immense as they struck hard and thrown off stage, smashing into the walls of the Arena.
The winds died down and disappeared, revealing Jada and Jaden’s imposing manner on stage as they stood back to back, glancing around the Arena. Arata and the other students in Class 7 grinned, they didn’t cheer out loud but it was clear that they were immensely satisfied with their display of power just now. They had defeated the blonde twins with a powerful display of strength, and Class 7 were extremely pleased with the results.
Arata called the twins down, congratulating them with simple words before whispering to the class, planning their next moves and who would go up next. But also his plan in terms of preserving their strength for the following battles. Understanding what they could possibly be up against, Arata understood how seriously they would need to take Class 1, approaching them patiently, cautiously and strategically. They couldn’t rush in and throw their strength at them, they need to properly think things through if they wanted to be declared champions.
Class 1 rushed over to help the blonde twins get out of the walls that they were thrown into. They were stapled inside the walls and were in clear pain. The students in Class 1 glared intensely at the students of Class 7, especially at Jada and Jaden who had done this to their classmates. They were much more wary of their strength and all believed that Jada and Jaden were powerhouses that they needed to keep an eye on.
Teacher Diya thought differently as she eyed out Arata silently. She knew that he had instantly discovered their weakness and sent in Jada and Jaden to shut them down. He was a truly formidable foe. Even though he wouldn’t be participating in the upcoming battles, his insight and wisdom was the most dangerous thing that Class 7 had. She knew it. But her students didn’t.
She wanted to help and guide her students, but she knew that they would grow the most by making their own decisions and dealing with the consequences of those decisions. She thought it was not wise to use the twins twice in two rounds, but they had arrogantly thought they could defeat Class 7 in that way.
Now they were reaping the consequences of that decision. Teacher Diya looked over to Teacher Takuma with an intense glare. Teacher Takuma had a smug look on her face as she stared back. They seemed to silently communicate with each other as the locked eyes from across the Arena. They gave a final look before turning back to their students. Both of their looks said the same thing to the other person.
This is only the beginning. Bring it on.
