I Shall Devour Everything - Chapter 75
Mei’s eyes widened as she quickly pressed her hands together and a screen of bright white light flashed before her as if trying to block those flames.
However, the screen of white light seemed to contain the flames for a second before the flames devoured the white light and blasted away all four by a few feet.
Mei somehow grabbed Arion’s collar to soften his landing while Yaro was about to grab Shun’s arm, but he seemed to have already landed on his feet perfectly.
However, she didn’t pay any mind to it and hastily got up while clutching her spear tightly and threw it towards the Hell Wraith.
The spear magically shot out of her hand and towards the Hell Wraith. But just as the blade of the spear was about to touch the Hell Wraith, it began to revolve like a wheel at an insane speed, cutting through the Hell Wraith successively while producing a strong gale of wind that made Arion feel like he was standing in a windy region.
*SCREEEK!!*
The Hell Wraith let out a venomous screech before it disappeared into thin air as if it got extinguished by Yaro’s spear.
“Ari, why did you try to approach it before? It’s no ordinary Dreadling, and its flames are extremely dangerous,” Mei couldn’t understand what was going on in Arion’s mind before when he stepped forward towards the Hell Wraith.
But before she could say anything more, she frowned as she said, “Oh no…it’s still alive! Ari, get back.”
*Screeekkk!*
The Hell Wraith again manifested in thin air before them as it let out a howling screech. It flapped its wings made out of pure dark orange flames as yet another jet of flames headed towards them.
Yaro pushed her hand out as her spear began to revolve in the same manner before, but this time instead of attacking the Hell Wraith, the spear seemed to create an invisible wind barrier that seemed to stop the flames.
Arion also readied his arrow and fired it.
However, just like how the flames broke past Mei’s counterattack before, it also dissolved the wind barrier even more easily, and instead, the flames seemed to have increased in size and vigor as it blasted towards Yaro and the others.
The arrow Arion shot turned to dust just before the flames could completely devour it.
“Ughh!” Yaro groaned as she somehow caught back her spear and blocked the flames with her spear as she shielded the others.
“Aunt Yaro!” Mei and Arion called out in worry, but they were still sent flying while Yaro was sent even further back, her hands completely scorched.
Arion finally got out of the feeling of complacency and disregard for the Hell Wraith when he saw Yaro getting her hands burned and seeing her getting injured for their sake.
He finally started to feel fear after the previous lackadaisical attitude seemed to evaporate. But he was not disappointed but was instead glad since because of how laid-back he was about the Hell Wraith, he almost got himself killed.
If even an expert like Yaro was sent flying, then how could he possibly stand a chance against it? But this was highly contrary to the contempt and disdain he was feeling for this Dreadling before.
He had no idea how he suddenly had such a ridiculous mindset before, but he was glad that he was feeling like his old self now.
He got worried, wondering if Yaro got severely injured but seeing her still conscious, groaning in pain on the ground, he felt a bit of relief.
However, he still wanted to rush over to her and help her, but right now, he knew that the best thing to do was stay behind Mei since if he takes one step outside Mei’s range of protection, he would instantly get toast and turn into ashes.
He saw how even his steel arrow got turned to dust before it could even touch the Hell Wraith. In fact, he also couldn’t help but worry, thinking that physical weapons may not have any effect on a Dreadling like this that didn’t seem to have a tangible body.
It looked no different than a blazing ghost-like bat, especially the blazing wings of flames, with the difference being that its face didn’t look anything like a bat but some alien monster he had seen in movies.
Mei’s brows furrowed and pushed out her hand as a bright light manifested on her hand to reveal a bow.
But Arion had a confused look since this bow looked nothing like the one he saw yesterday but a relatively ordinary-looking green bow. And in her hand, a green arrow appeared, which she quickly used to draw her bow and then fired at the Hell Wraith.
The arrow shot towards the Hell Wraith at an insane speed, but just before the arrow could hit it, it disappeared into thin air, making the arrow miss its target.
Arion now had a bad feeling seeing how even Mei and Yaro were helpless against this terrifying ghost-like monster.
Mei readied another arrow, but before she fully drew her bow, another jet of flames came falling down on Arion, who could only bring up his hands in panic.
But Mei acted fast as she quickly came before Arion and took the brunt of the attack as she cast a screen of white light with her hand.
But just like how Yaro’s screen gave way, Mei’s screen dispersed as the dark orange flames ate through it, and the force carried behind the flames again sent Mei flying with Arion in her embrace.
“Mei!!”
Arion felt as if his heart was caving in, seeing Mei’s expression twist in pain. A flood of rage began to fill his mind as he looked at the five feet tall Hell Wraith floating in mid-air, its horrendous-looking face still looking at them with a salivating gaze filled with killing intent.
However, he somehow suppressed his rage since he did not want to do something reckless and have Mei take the burn for it again.
He got even more worried when he heard a searing sound from her back where she had got hit by the Dreadling’s flames, and smoke was continuing to emanate from her back.
“Mei, are you alright?!” Arion worriedly asked as he tried to get up and support her before the Hell Wraith could attach them again.
“Yes, I am fine. Don’t worry,” Mei said with a reassuring smile as she quickly got up and turned around to face the Hell Wraith, much to the surprise of Arion.
He was also surprised to see that her back was unhurt with no injuries at all. Even her white dress looked absolutely pristine without any signs of scorched fabric.
However, he decided to think about it later since right now, he couldn’t afford to let himself get distracted seeing the approaching Hell Wraith.
But suddenly, a strong burst of wind blew in Arion’s direction, and when he turned his head to see what it was, his eyes widened, seeing a large projection of a spear heading towards the Hell Wraith.
Inside the projection was Yaro’s spear, and before the Hell Wraith could react, the projection exploded against it as torrents of energy waves blasted towards all sides.
But Mei was able to shield Arion from the waves while Arion was surprised to see Yaro standing up with an exhausted expression. It seemed as if it took a lot of prana for her to perform the last attack, and indeed it did seem to cause some damage as he saw the Hell Wraith’s incorporeal body faltering and its dark orange flames appearing less vigorous.
Arion saw the spear which was lying on the ground shooting back towards Yaro with just a wave of her hand.
‘She can summon her weapon back as well? How convenient!’ Arion momentarily thought before shifting his focus back to the stunned Hell Wraith only to see Mei readying up another arrow on her bow.
This time he saw how a layer of faint white light began to emanate from her body, making her look like an entrancing goddess that descended from the heavens to purge evil.
And this faint light rapidly flowed towards her arrow as she fired it.
Just as the arrow left the bow, it split into dozens of green arrows with white light surrounding it, and within just a second, it struck the Hell Wraith, making it let out a shrill screech that could make one feel goosebumps.
*SCREEEEEEKK!!*
But Mei’s attack seemed to have caused great distress to the Hell Wraith as it continued to screech while swaying in the air.
It was as if the Hell Wraith was suffering from being burned alive ironically. Dark smokes were emanating from its body as its flames showed signs of dying out.
Yaro somehow quickly came forward and stood beside Mei as they exchanged glances in understanding to deal the finishing blow.
But before they could, Arion was surprised by yet another astonishing sight.
