I, The Dragon Overlord - Chapter 591: Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan
“Run faster, hurry up!! The exit is right ahead, we’re about to succeed!”
The Major shouted at the top of his lungs, even though he, as a military man, was panting a bit at this point. Throughout the journey, he had been encouraging his team while exerting far more physical effort than the others.
Gui Bin felt like his lungs were on fire, his brain was seriously lacking oxygen, and even the sugar in his body was nearly depleted. Right now, he was relying solely on determination to keep going. However, Gui Bin also knew that if he couldn’t get some rest and nutrition soon, he might end up like the soldier in the marathon who ran himself to death.
With what little spirit he had left, he looked around. Many of the experts who had initially entered the underground Antarctic with him were now heavily injured or dead. At least half of them had perished. Fortunately, his good friend Oshima and Smith from the United States had managed to keep up and hadn’t fallen behind.
Falling behind meant death, as Gui Bin had just experienced a life-or-death situation that was even more adrenaline-pumping than any Hollywood movie.
‘If what’s happening here could be known outside, it would surely become the script for a Hollywood movie.’
Gui Bin thought with a touch of dark humor.
Compared to the experts who weren’t used to physical training, the survival rate of the soldiers who had ventured underground to Antarctica was extremely high. Except for a very few who were accidentally injured and couldn’t run, most of them had made it through.
‘It really goes to show how important it is to exercise.’
Gui Bin sighed. His consciousness was getting blurry now, and he was just running along with the others when he accidentally bumped into the person in front of him.
“Have we… made it?”
Gui Bin looked at the rope leading down into the hole ahead. It was the same hole they had drilled into the Antarctic ice.
“Hurry up, everyone, climb up quickly. That creature will probably catch up soon. Let the experts go up first, and all the soldiers will be the last!”
The Major quickly issued the order, and the resolute soldiers didn’t oppose it. Each one of them quietly drew their weapons, fully aware that these weapons wouldn’t be very effective, and they were prepared to sacrifice their lives.
Gui Bin’s consciousness was nearing its limit. He and a few others were in the first group to be pulled up by the ropes. When he saw the sunlight and the pristine whiteness of Antarctica, he felt a profound sense of relief and an overwhelming urge to cry.
“This person’s body is failing. Come over and help!
The logistics personnel who had been guarding the entrance quickly rushed to assist and provide modern medical aid to Gui Bin.
Fewer people returned alive than those who had set out initially. So, not long after, everyone had climbed out of the hole.
“Behind us, there’s a terrifying monster chasing us. Quickly notify the Antarctic research station and tell them to prepare!”
As soon as the Major emerged from the cave, he grabbed a logistics personnel and shouted.
“There’s no need to notify them. Everyone at the entire Antarctic research station has already evacuated. Only those of us are waiting for your return. If you hadn’t shown up within another five hours, we would have had to evacuate as well!” the logistics personnel shouted loudly.
“The research station… has been evacuated? What on Earth happened here while we were underground in Antarctica?” the Major asked in astonishment.
“This is not the time to talk about it. We need to leave here immediately. The base has left an aircraft for us! we must head there quickly!”
“Right, that’s right! Let’s go quickly. That creature might appear any moment!” the Major urged..
However, as he finished speaking, the ground below everyone began to shake.
The logistics personnel’s faces changed. Although they didn’t know what creature was chasing the Major and the others, the fact that only half of the large group that had gone out had returned alive indicated that the creature was anything but friendly.
They boarded the snow vehicles immediately, and the driver hit the accelerator, launching them into extreme speed.
As the snow vehicles departed, the ground beneath the spot where they had been standing cracked open. Accompanied by a hoarse and unpleasant screech, a Shoggoth covered in tentacles and eyes, drenched in thick greenish liquid, emerged from the depths of Antarctica.
The driver saw the Shoggoth through the rearview mirror and immediately turned pale, nearly vomiting.
“Don’t look at it, just drive!”
The Major quickly warned.
The driver nodded and forced back his nausea, continuing to race across the Antarctic continent. Behind the snow vehicle, a monstrous creature with tentacles was breaking through the solid ice and snow, roaring as it chased after them.
“Beep beep beep—”
The previously malfunctioning communicator that the Major had brought underground in Antarctica started vibrating. He quickly opened it and found a message from the German Chancellor.
It was only now did everyone realized that the Major, who had saved their lives, was actually German, speaking fluent English and Chinese.
“Major Beck, I am German Chancellor Mekel representing the United Nations. I extend warm regards to you. I’d like to ask if you found anything in Antarctica,” Chancellor Mekel inquired.
Major Beck looked at the serious-faced elderly woman on the screen, and an idea sparked in his mind. He clutched the spherical object he had found on the ancient alien spaceship.
He now deeply admired his quick thinking. Thankfully, he had picked up something at random from the alien ship. As a military officer, he understood the ruthlessness of politics. He knew that if they had returned with nothing, it was highly likely that these politicians would have abandoned the entire group of fleeing people.
Major Beck swiftly opened his hand and spoke rapidly, “There is an alien spaceship underground, and this is something I found on that ship.”
As he finished speaking, Chancellor Mekel’s expression changed significantly. She spoke to someone beside her and then said to Major Beck, “There are aircraft waiting for you at the base ahead. Soon, American fighter jets will also arrive in Antarctica to assist you in repelling these creatures. However, whether you can escape or not depends on your own efforts. May God bless you!”
Hearing the Chancellor’s words, Major Beck breathed a sigh of relief. With this support from the United Nations, they could receive assistance from American fighter jets. He wasn’t afraid to die himself, but he didn’t want these soldiers, whom he had brought here, to die in this place.
The snow vehicles continued to flee, and not long after, the sound of aircraft engines roared through the sky. One of the logistics personnel sitting in the front of the vehicle exclaimed, “It’s the fighter jets! Fighter jets have come to rescue us!”
As soon as he spoke, the snow vehicles were hit by a shockwave, and a series of air-to-ground missiles were launched from beneath the fighter jets’ wings. With a flash of flame and an explosion, a massive fireball lit up the Antarctic continent.
In this blazing inferno, the Shoggoth let out a miserable scream. Although it didn’t die immediately, its tentacles turned charred, and the Shoggoth itself weakened.
“Oh!”
The people in the snow vehicles erupted in cheers, and everyone was filled with renewed spirit. The mythical figures that had appeared on Earth before had been terrifying, and human weapons, including nuclear ones, seemed powerless against them. It had led people to believe that these creatures from the realm of myths and the supernatural were invulnerable. However, now it seemed that not all of them were as fearsome. Despite their tenacious vitality, they could still be killed by human weapons.
But their celebration was short-lived. The Antarctic continent shook once more, and glaciers cracked open. At least dozens of Shoggoths appeared on the Antarctic continent!
“Damn, there are so many of these creatures!”
Everyone was horrified, urging the driver to speed up.
……
Meanwhile, in New York City’s Chinatown in the United States, a Korean individual was wandering around and stumbled upon an ancient book. Intrigued, they decided to purchase it.
The cover of the ancient book bore six large characters written in seal script: Seven Cryptical Books of Hsan
