I Transmigrated as the Cannon Fodder Villain - Chapter 55
‘Hah… I knew that you would’
What Theodora didn’t expect was that Stephen would grab a knife and slit his arm
“STEPHEN!” the blood trickled down his arm and Theodora’s throat ran dry. She was suppressing the urge to bite him these past few months and now it became really hard.
Stephen placed his arm closer to Theodora’s mouth. “Drink it. If you’re going to get better then drink. I don’t care if you have to drink human blood but you’re not a monster”
Theodora hesitantly accepted this and found herself lost the moment she began to drink. It seems like the mood between them also improved since that night became long for both of them.
Theodora was no longer sickly and was happy that Stephen accepted her entire being. She would help him in his baking business since she was not allowed to leave the house. Stephen would be the one to insist that Kassandra should drink his blood but she was concerned that he would get weaker. And so they compromised that she would drink his blood once a month.
ah… Having a live human is better than a dead one.
And this human was someone she loved and this Human loved her back. She could only hope that these days would last longer. They even married informally and just signed the papers.
“Where’s the miss?” The village chief asks Stephen while handing back the marriage certificates.
“She’s at home, she’s very sickly” Stephen lied and rolled up the paper.
“is that so?” the village chief looked at him suspiciously as Stephen left to return.
The happy days of the couple continued. During the daytime, Stephen would sometimes leave to deliver orders. Theodora would sit by the window, embroidering while she waited for his return. Sometimes she would bake more goods to be sold. And sometimes she would play with Finn the dog. Those days were suddenly put on hold when Kassandra suddenly appeared with another man that looked like her.
“You’re certainly having a good time here” Kassandra says as she looked around the shabby room.
“M-My Lady” Theodora kneeled.
“Did you forget that your purpose of life was to serve me?”
“I have not forgotten that but this human saved me and he even takes care of me”
“Really now? I certainly doubt his intentions” Being reminded of what the Draco Wolf told her made her frown since the one in front of her used to be a human as well.
“He knows that I’m not human but he still shows me love and warmth that I haven’t felt in the 200 years I have lived for” Theodora smiled as she remembered Stephen’s warm smile.
“He’s still a human. He’ll grow old and eventually die. This is why I keep telling you to refrain from becoming attached. Your sisters and I are deeply concerned for you if that time happens”
“I won’t give up on him. I will not cast him aside nor will I forget my duties. I will be there when you call me” Theodora declares and Kassandra looks at the man and he smiles.
“Have more faith in your servant sis”
“ugh… anyways, that’s all. I just came here because I’m concerned. Contact me once you’re tired with playing around” Kassandra snapped her hand and the brother-sister duo disappeared, leaving flower petals fluttering in the air.
Theodora had been distracted by Kassandra’s sudden appearance that she didn’t notice that someone had climbed up one of the trees behind their house. This person had been one of the Village Chief’s people ordered to spy on the mysterious wife of Stephen. The lad would appear with questionable bite marks on different parts of his body. He would say it was either a mosquito or his dog that bit him.
“You’re certain with what you stated?!” the village chief was shocked.
“Yes! The woman suddenly disappeared leaving only flower petals. I think that may have been the devil Lili that the neighboring villages heard from the religious sects” The spy that was sent out earlier reported to his chief.
“Then it would be safe to assume that Stephen’s wife is a witch connected with the devil… That would also explain the bite marks on him”
The village chief seemed to be planning something. Because one day, Stephen ran into their room to pack their items in a rush.
“What’s going on?” Theodora asks and Stephen made her hold the bag.
“Remember when I said that villagers seemed to be avoiding me? well, it turns out that the elders declared that I married a witch. So we have to leave now!” Stephen explained while he continued to grab important things.
“RELEASE THE WITCH STEPHEN!” Voices roared from outside and the two of them could hear the aggressive banging on the front door.
“Shit… They’re already here…” Stephen cussed and he opens the window of their room.
“I’m confident that you can jump from high places right?”
“yes but what about you?” Theodora asks. Maybe she could carry him on her back as she runs.
“Don’t worry about me, I’ll buy you some time. If we leave together they might catch up since they have horses.” Stephen ties up the bag and wraps a cloak around Theodora.
“I won’t leave you, I can handle them don’t worry”
“Theo… I don’t want you to become a monster.” The front door suddenly opened and Stephen pushed her towards the window. “I’ll talk to them somehow, now go!” Stephen continued to push her and he went out of the room.
“Gentlemen”
“Where’s the woman?”
“What are you talking about?”
Since Theodora had recovered tremendously, she can now use one of the few abilities that were bestowed upon her. Kassandra asked her what she desired and she replied “I want to be able to hide in plain sight”. She was given the power to become invisible but she was only invisible to humans. So in a way, this was her manipulating their brains into thinking that she wasn’t there.
“Didn’t you get married earlier this year?! Where is she? Is she behind that door?”
“I did get married but I did mention that my wife was sickly. She already passed.”
“Bullshit! I saw her talking to the devil!” the spy shouted and the crowd roared in anger.
“He must be under the devil’s influence!”
“All the more reason to kill that bitch!”
Stephen stood his place guarding that door. He knew that Theodora will hesitate to leave him so he needed to make sure she had enough time.
“Step aside!” A man grabs Stephen and he punches the man.
“You dare enter my house without permission and slander my deceased wife over one person’s testimony?! Where’s your evidenc-” Stephen also got punched. Actually, the term punch wasn’t enough, he was beaten. And Theodora heard everything happening behind that door.
The door opened and Theodora stood there in the middle of the ceiling quietly.
“Search the room! She might be hiding here. The others, run into the forest. She’s still a woman so she can’t go so far!” The Village Chief declares and the men continued to destroy their home.
“She’s gone I tell you!” Stephen yells and he got kicked in the face forcing him to spit out a mouthful of blood.
Theodora wanted to kill everyone here.
“So why don’t you?” a devilish whisper could be heard.
But Stephen didn’t want me to become a monster.
“But will you watch him die?” The voice asks her.
“Chief she’s really not here!”
“Burn down the house! She might have put demonic curses in this house”
“What about Stephen?”
“Leave him. He’s a lost cause”
The villagers went out of the house and had threw their torches here and there. Only then did Theodora jump down and rush to Stephen.
“Stephen, wake up. I’m sorry I wanted to kill them but you told me not to I’m sorry” Theodora continued to apologize.
“You want to save him?” The voice spoke out
“Yes, he saved me but why can’t I do the same?” She was crying out and the owner of the voice appeared before her. It was Kassandra.
“I observed what this man would do… he surprised me since he chose you over his life even though you can survive a petty witchhunt. I’ll grant you another power, you can turn him into a monster like you but you know the suffering that comes with it”
“T-Theo…”
“Stephen!”
“Do it” Stephen spits out more blood and Kassandra gave not only Theodora but the others like her the ability to turn another.
She carried Stephen out of the burning house and into the very forest that those villagers went in. Lady Kassandra had given her blessings to both of them as well as to kill those bastards that hurt her beloved.
“I’m sorry Stephen but I have to do this” She tells him as she placed him down in a safe area. Stephen groaned in pain.
Theodora frowned before leaving to “Hunt down meat”. When she returned, Stephen was still in pain. While licking off the blood from her hand, she sat down next to Stephen to move his head onto her thighs. She deliberately injured her arm the same way he did to her once and forced him to drink her blood. At first, he unconsciously would try to reject it by trying to push away her arm. But eventually, he relaxed and continued to drink.
Theodora was content with this and began humming a song.
.
.
.
Remembering those distant memories of the past, the two of them can’t help but cherish each other more. Stephen kissed her gently on the lips and then he started to hum the same song that she hummed to her that night.
“You remember that?” He asks weakly.
“Of course, I remember everything”
“then sing it with me” He closed his eyes as he said this.
The both of them started to hum as they reminisce about the past. It may have been Stephen’s imagination but he feels like he was back in that day. When he woke up he saw Theodora smiling at him as she stroked his hair.
“If you’re still tired, you can sleep more”
Hearing this Stephen lets out a sigh of relief before smiling. Hearing that made him sure that everything will be alright.
“Baby?” Theodora stopped humming when Stephen no longer sang with her. There was no response.
She leaned in to give him one last kiss on the forehead before ultimately sinking down to her knees once more to cry.
