- Chapter 276: Same but Different Dream 8
Naomi descended from the flying island after Mischa changed her clothes to a suit similar to hers. She slowly used her Telekinesis to float down while hearing Mischa’s bashful complaint.
“Dummy! I didn’t realize it because I wanted to make you a drink right after I woke up! Usually, I wore something more reserved than that, but… last night was so hot that I took off my clothes unconsciously while sleeping.”
“Don’t worry, I understand. Anyway, you look so cute with disheveled clothes, Mischa.”
“You don’t understand anything!”
She kept teasing Mischa until they reached the ground, right in front of Akasa Inc.’s building. Naomi was about to find her mother to discuss Melaine’s last message.
Her mother was possibly the person who knew about Melaine better than most because she had been working with her for the past few days. Not only that, they seemed to be close to each other when they were talking.
“I know, I know. I will forget about that, maybe. More importantly…” Naomi changed the way she spoke as she said the last part. “It’s time to work.”
Sensing her change, Mischa only pouted. She knew that Naomi wouldn’t even be disturbed by anything when she was in this state, so she kept her retort inside and only muttered, “Dummy.”
Naomi kind of ignored Mischa’s mutter as she walked toward Akasa Inc.’s main building. Mischa followed closely behind her like a secretary. She looked like the part, as she also put on her aloof expression when they first met at that park. Her suit also made her look more mature and professional.
The security men at the entrance straightened their position when they saw Naomi walk toward them. Simultaneously, both men greeted her in a high voice.
“Good morning, Miss Akasa!”
“Good morning,” Naomi answered swiftly as she entered the building. The door was opened automatically, and she proceeded to the elevator that led her to the top floor. Some employees greeted her when she passed by, and she answered all of them without missing even one.
Keeping a relationship with someone else was important, and Naomi understood that from her mother’s teaching in the past.
A simple thing such as answering other people’s greetings could mean something big to the other party. That was why Naomi would always answer someone’s greeting when she was in work mode. However, she would be too lazy to answer them if she was in home mode. She just wanted to laze around sometime.
As the door of the elevator was closed, Mischa, who stood beside her, spoke.
“What do you think about Melaine’s message, Naomi? After walking for a while, I noticed that I couldn’t feel Melaine’s Esper pressure anywhere.”
“Me too. I have been expanding my search to cover the entire Germany, but she’s not in this country at all.” Naomi answered seriously. She narrowed her eyes slightly, thinking that something was strange.
“I can always expand my search worldwide, but my body will take a toll from it, so I’d like to avoid it, if possible, even more so when we are about to be attacked by the full force of the Esper Association.”
“Isn’t that too dangerous? Sensing every Espers’ pressure on Earth and pinpointing only one of them is crazy! You can die from that!” Mischa raised her voice after she heard Naomi’s idea.
“I know. I had experienced it before.” Naomi replied with a wry smile. “I certainly don’t want to experience it again. I only did it because I was angry at that time.”
“Could it be? Was it that time?” Mischa asked curiously; sadness was clear in her tone. She knew why Naomi would go that far, and it made her happy and sad at the same time.
“That was already in the past. I won’t push myself that far anymore. Anyway, we’ve arrived.”
“…”
Ting!
The elevator stopped, and the door opened. It directly led to the office room on the top floor. She stepped out of the elevator with Mischa, who had regained her calm.
Because the office was big and located at the end of the corridor, Naomi couldn’t see the entire office yet from the elevator. She walked inside and looked around, finding a trace of her mother.
“Mother?” She called out, expecting a reply to come back quickly. It was usually like that, as Naomi would never visit the office unless there was a pressing matter.
However, the reply never returned. When she was near the working desk, she noticed that her mother wasn’t in the room. Because Mizuki was only a normal human, Naomi couldn’t even trace her Esper pressure.
“No one is here.” Mischa said as she turned the CEO chair behind the table. The shutter was shut, so Mischa opened it to let sunlight light up the dark office.
“Yes.” Naomi replied, her eyes narrowed dangerously. It was impossible that her mother wasn’t here. There was a chance that she was in the secret underground area where Akasa Inc. conducted its research. Naomi only thought of two possibilities about where her mother was. “Let’s try a different place.”
“Where?” Mischa asked, approaching Naomi, who stood idly near the entrance that led to the corridor. She didn’t know about the secret underground area as she had never been there.
Naomi didn’t know how to explain it. There were various underground experiments, and some even used criminals to do something terribly similar to the Esper Association to test the new weapons of Akasa Inc.
She was afraid that Mischa would hate her when she saw the underground area, but she also didn’t want to hide it from her at the same time.
After thinking for a while, Naomi decided that it would be fine to show Mischa the secret underground area of Akasa Inc.
‘I hope she won’t hate me for this. Even if I don’t have anything to do with the experiment, the fact that I allowed it to happen with my knowledge didn’t change.’
“Somewhere secret.”
