I Was Reincarnated As A Monster Flower - Chapter 15
Evolution. What exactly is this? In layman’s terms, it’s the process in which a monster grows stronger. While we have our classes, they have their tiers. Where we use only skills, they mutate AND have skills. This gives them a massive advantage over us in terms of raw capabilities. Hence why we usually recommend hunters to hunt monsters in teams of three at the very least. Although teams of five are best.
We also have reason to suspect that they to have titles like us that can be used to give them an even greater advantage over us. This is all made even worse with their easily being several hundred monsters for every hunter. Had it not been for the fact that we can produce weapons and formulate strategies they’d have long since wiped out all of the sentient surface dwellers. But back to the important thing.
We don’t know whether this is true since we have no way to confirm it, but we believe that monsters gain XP from killing other lifeforms which they use to then level themselves up. Based on the disappearance of the monster cores of monsters killed by other monsters we have reason to believe that they absorb the mana inside of it along with the core. For what purposes we can not be sure. It can range from as something as extraordinary as expanding their mana capacity to something as simple as using it as energy for evolution.

FINALLY, DAY TIME! THE POWER! I CAN FEEL IT FLOWING THROUGH MY VEIIIINS! It was addicting though. I absolutely had to level up my photosynthesis skill further because it felt like a drug with the increased stats it gives me. And we all know what day time means. Hunting time! I’m going to power level my way to level 5 for those sweet sweet perks! This means today the fanged frogs will be experiencing a small genocide. I didn’t bother with chatting with any of the dryads before I departed into the rest of the forest and thankfully it seemed those fairies weren’t daytime monsters (Are they even monsters?). Otherwise, I’d have had to deal with them on my way out. Which would have been less than satisfactory.
And as expected of something with as large of a population as the fanged frogs it didn’t take long to find a large group of them. There were easily 17 of them within reach of this one spot which was a bit terrifying because it meant they were probably second only to the ants in regards of numbers. I’m surprised the environment hasn’t been having trouble with these guys. Well if it was at a level, I couldn’t notice then it wouldn’t have to worry now that I’m here. And if it wasn’t well then, I don’t really care, and I’ll still do what I’ll be doing.
Coiling up the vines inside of me I shot them out towards the fanged frogs succeeding in hitting 13 of the 17 killing over half of them instantly while the rest quickly died from blood loss. The four I missed hopped away in fear of getting killed. I ignored them choosing to pay attention to the rewards for killing the other frogs.

Holy mackerels! That’s a ton of XP! That means I should only need 8 XP to be able to level up. Maybe stock up a bit more XP along the way to get a bit farther along. These thorn vines are really convenient for getting large amounts of XP at once. Especially when combined with the smarty-pants effect. Time for the next hunt! Wait. I should also get some live frogs for the dryads.
….
….
That can wait! My own levels are way more important! Level five! Perks! Stat points! Here I come for your heads!
With those words, I rushed off to my next killing ground while munching on a couple frogs leaving behind the rest for the scavengers. Within a couple minutes a crowd of over twenty frogs came to the area the corpses were to feast on the remains. In a flash, though several dozen vines lashed out slaughtering 24 of the frogs while the others started to flee.
You fools didn’t actually think I’d abandon all these corpses, did you? Little did you know it was a trap all along! And with this Alfred sing the notes I want to hear!

[Level up available. Immediate level up advised.]
YESSSSSSS! I have another level up! Now to bring back some living frogs and actually leave behind the mountain of corpses and level up. Then slam into the fold again.
It didn’t take long for me to catch some frogs and return with them to the grove. After thanking me Amelia promptly took them to do who knows what. Meanwhile, I busied myself with leveling myself up. All my stats were pretty good, and I got a solid 35 points for my stats. So, I promptly spent 10 on strength, then 10 on agility and 10 on charisma just in case. To follow up with that I placed 5 points into my Toughness.
I chose not to spend my skill points because I wanted to save them up to level up more skills to level 3 at the same time. Totally not procrastinating the pain and the tingly feeling! After a level-up nap that was shorter than the last one (I made sure to ask Amelia how long it lasted.) I went to hunt something I’ve been having my eyes on for a while that I wasn’t confident enough to face before a level up. And that was the deer with tusks. I still had some PTSD from that one bison monster I first met. Now I’m paranoid that every herbivore is secretly some horror monster in disguise.
It didn’t take me long to locate one of the damned deer for my hunt. Wait when did I start thinking of them as something to be damned? I guess this entire plant thing is warping my mind more than I thought it would… Mildly concerning but can be ignored for now. Now back to that damned deer…
I quickly darted forward while launching five of my vines all at once. With my upgraded agility, my ability to manipulate them increased dramatically and I put that into practice while I intertwined them into a thicker more powerful vine and wrapped it around the back-right leg of the deer and dug all five thorns into it. The deer let out a pained groan and looked back towards me with a hateful glare.
I guess monster deer don’t scare easily… It just makes it easier for me to attack it.
I fired off four more vines that buried the thorns into the monsters hide and used it to pull me forward onto its back. The deer probably realizing it wouldn’t be good for it if I got onto its back immediately took action as it started running despite the thorns in its leg with me flying behind it barely holding on with all the vines I had buried into its flesh. It zigged that way and zagged that way in its attempts to dislodge me. Occasionally slamming me into the occasional bush or tree. I was forced to extend a fair chunk of my vines to wrap myself in order to avoid losing too much HP.
Accursed deer! I will have your heart! Or your antlers! Or tusks! I don’t know which one yet! Damn the number of choices along with you to oblivion!
I started to reel my vines back in pulling me ever so closer to the deer and lowering the risk of getting hit by the various obstacles of the forest drastically. The deer wasn’t ignorant of this as I had hoped and stopped in its tracks and crouched down letting my momentum sling me forward and loosen my grip on its legs and back. My other vines managed to hold but that only succeeded in me getting an unpleasant shock of pain in my vines before I was pulled back and slammed into the deer’s side. I then dropped to the ground as my vines briefly weakened from the pain.
The deer then took a few steps and stood over me with a mocking twinkle in its eyes. Right as it raised a hoof to stomp me to death ten vies blasted forward all at once with five of them impaling its throat and the other five wrapping around its snout and rapidly pulling me towards its face with my thorn filled mouth splayed open awaiting the tender flesh of the deer. The beast reeled back in pain hooves flailing in its desperate and inaccurate attempt to harm me.
By now it was already too late as I reached its throat and Woah! The thorns in my mouth subconsciously extended on their own vines and began wrapping themselves around the throat of the monster impaling and suffocating its as they pulled my mouth around it and with the remaining thorns started to saw my way through its hide, and skin with relative ease before reaching the veins, arteries, and muscles and shredded them with ease.
The deer was now staggering as blood poured out of its throat. And now after so many stabs, the weak poison was beginning to show an effect s its legs grew weaker. It finally collapsed to the side as its muscles lost the strength they had before from one debilitating attack after another being piled onto the same spot. All of which made worse as it was still struggling to gasp for air as its own blood poured down into its lungs drowning it in its own blood. Soon though its suffering was put to an end.

Muhahaha! Who’s the flower! I am! It looks like I had mouth tentacles too! Now I can pull smaller prey directly into my mouth… How awe- Ahem. Terrifying! I’ve got a lot of nice stuff from this, but the only problem now was what to do with the body? It was probably way too big to fit into me… Whatever I can figure that out after reading me that monster entry.
