I’d Give Up The World For You - Chapter 211
Rukelion wanted to do so much worse to Juliet than sue her but he was truly afraid of what he would do if he saw her again knowing now that she was not only the reason he had been separated from his wife but that she couldn’t remember him. He didn’t want Daisy’s efforts of looking into lawyers for him to go to waste though.
She had done that while he was at school when she could be doing better things because she wanted justice for him. That meant a lot.
He decided the safest course of action was to try and avoid taking this to court. Threatening Juliet had always worked for him in the past. If she wasn’t willing to give him what he wanted no questions asked then he would sue her.
As Daisy said, he did have a strong case with how much hassle this had given him. There were so many fans of that stupid novel or the actor who played him in the movie that had stopped him and asked if he was trying to look like Rukelion Blaze on purpose.
It was really starting to get to him. He WAS Rukelion Blaze! Of course he would look like himself!
Getting called out on it all the time was incredibly frustrating but until now there hadn’t been anything he could do but silently fume. He hated everything about this.
He was almost tempted to dye his hair solely to get people to stop staring at him. But he would never actually do that because he was proud of his heritage and his hair was all he had left of his family and their long and proud tradition of being royal fire mages.
Rukelion would never hide it again. Even if it meant ignorant people gave him a hard time about looking like a fictional character. If they knew the truth they wouldn’t dare cross him. He could kill anyone in the blink of an eye.
He was sitting quietly minding his own business before one of his classes started when a young woman around his age sat down next to him and struck up a conversation. “I like your hair! It’s really cool.”
“Thank you,” he said coldly. He really wasn’t in the mood for this right now.
“Do you want to get coffee together sometime? I know this great place not far from campus!”
Rukelion laid his left hand on top of his notebook so his wedding ring was on full display. “No. I would rather spend my free time with my wife.”
Her eyes widened. “You’re married?! But you’re so young!”
He got this a lot. It was perfectly normal where he came from, okay? It was weirder not to be married by his age, honestly. “Do you have anything useful to say or not? It isn’t that strange to marry your childhood sweetheart.”
“Geez, there’s no need to be rude.”
She huffed, grabbed her backpack, and changed seats. Good! Rukelion hated dealing with people like that.
All of these people here at school were insects. There was no need to be polite to them because he didn’t need them for anything, unlike his former fellow soldiers. He wouldn’t be here for long and he certainly wasn’t here to make friends.
He was going to try switching to all online classes next semester. This was terrible.
Rukelion took out his phone and stared at his lock screen to calm himself down. It was the picture of him and Daisy in front of those tulips. She looked so happy in it even though he knew it was because of the flowers and not because of him. He didn’t care. He loved seeing her happy more than anything.
That was the only thing that got him through the rest of his classes for the night. He was still not in the best mood when he stalked out to the parking lot. He had a lot of homework to do and he would rather spend time with his wife.
Perhaps it was because he was angry that he called Juliet to get it over with. He was already mad; it wasn’t as if things could get worse.
She picked up on the fourth ring and her voice came crackling through the speakerphone, clearly surprised and wary. “Rukelion! Why are you calling me? You disappeared with nothing but a note saying ‘I went to find Daisy. If I ever see you again it will be too soon’ MONTHS ago.”
Even hearing her voice again made his blood boil. It was a very good thing she was a few hundred miles away. Otherwise he probably would have killed her and that wouldn’t end well for him.
“I meant it,” Rukelion growled. “That’s why I’m calling. I’ve been advised to sue you for slander, defamation, and ruining my quality of life by supposedly basing a fictional character off of me. You have no idea how many people approach me about it and it’s driving me mad.
“However, this would involve seeing you in court and I’d rather not have to hold back on my urge to kill you so can you just send me half of your book and movie earnings since you capitalized on my suffering to make them?”
The other end of the line was silent for a moment. “…how do you even know about suing people?”
“Daisy told me.”
“So you found her then. Does she really hate me that much?”
The top of Rukelion’s head burst into flame and he quickly put it out. At least he was alone in the car and nobody saw. The roof was slightly singed now though. He would have to see if he could try and clean that up later.
He didn’t want to tell her anything remotely personal but it somehow spilled out of him anyway. “She doesn’t remember you. Or anything about her time in Mirea.”
Juliet cursed. “So she advised you to do this because she actually thinks I based a fictional character off of you. That makes sense. But how can she not remember? Are you positive she’s the same person?”
“100%. I followed the heat signature of her soul into this world. You may have thrown me off track but I would recognize it anywhere. She’s my Daisy. So are you going to give me the money or not? I don’t want to talk about this with the likes of you.”
“Uh, this should be talked about though! I’m the only person in the world you CAN talk to about this. No one else would believe you.”
Rukelion was loathe to admit she had a point. He hadn’t been able to talk about this with his therapist, which was why she kept judging his relationship with Daisy. He didn’t want to talk about something so painful with his worst enemy but this may be his only chance.
“What does it matter to you?” he asked defensively.
Juliet sighed. “I want both of you to be happy, believe it or not. I never intended for any of this to happen. I didn’t even know you were real. If I had, I never would have…”
He knew what she was going to say. She never would have written his life to be so tragic if she knew a real person with feelings was actually experiencing it. Her words meant nothing. It was far, far too late for that.
“If you want us to be happy then send me that money. I can use it to fund Daisy’s dream if nothing else. You owe her that much after you got her killed,” Rukelion said in a hard voice. “So are you going to do it or am I going to have to take you to court? Because I will but I don’t see that ending well for either of us.”
“I’ll do it if you tell me what’s going on. You’re obviously in contact with Daisy and have some sort of relationship with her even if she can’t remember you. Otherwise she wouldn’t tell you to sue me,” Juliet replied dryly.
“That isn’t any of your business!”
“Isn’t it? I created you.”
“Don’t remind me. I still know where you live and I can kill you any time,” Rukelion growled.
“You won’t though,” Juliet said more confidently than she should have. “Daisy wouldn’t approve of murder even if she can’t remember me. Let me guess…you wormed your way into her life and now she’s your girlfriend. I can’t imagine her giving you legal advice otherwise.”
She was half right. Daisy wasn’t his girlfriend. She was his roommate who sometimes acted like his wife. It was an incredibly confusing distinction but he wasn’t about to correct her.
“Are you done?”
“I’m worried about you, Rukelion. If she really doesn’t remember you—”
Rukelion cut her off. “First of all, you don’t have the right to worry about me. Second, it’s probably for the best because this gives me a chance to fix things. She doesn’t have to remember all of that unnecessary pain.. Don’t you dare try to talk to her.”
