I’ll End This Engagement - Chapter 34
I was seriously troubled.
Should I close my mouth or apologize one more time?
The reason I apologized to Davan before he even mentioned it was because I didn’t want to use up useless energy.
If there’s anything wrong with me… Well, there must have been something wrong.
Whether or not I admit it would not have mattered to Davan.
The Davan I’ve been watching all this time was such a person.
He does not ask for, desire, or expect more of Leah Prezis than that.
‘Well, I’ll just apologize one more time.’
I should open my mouth one more time I thought.
“It’s never going to happen again.”
“You know that’s not what I’m saying.”
It was Davan’s voice that made me speechless.
‘What? Then what are you saing?’
It was difficult to understand Davan’s words at once. My eyes narrowed.
“I mean, don’t go out on your own.”
Davan said coldly.
So, in the end, it was for the same reason I apologized.
I won’t be frivolous, I’ll make sure this never happens again, and so on.
Should I have said that I wouldn’t go out on my own?
“We don’t know what kind of power they might have or on what intention he was trying to invade.”
As I hesitated, I heard Davan’s voice again.
“Yes. In the future, I will not go out on my own. I’m sorry.”
I bowed my head and muttered quietly.
There was no reply for a while.
Was this not what Davan wanted?
‘What is this? Isn’t this right?’
I glanced up and looked at Davan again.
“Leah.”
The moment our eyes met, Davan’s lips slowly opened.
“I’m just saying that you could have been hurt.”
“…”
His voice was even lower in the night.
I was speechless for a moment.
From the moment he called me Leah, my mind turned blank, and the words that followed were even more shocking.
I never imagined that those words would come out of Davan’s mouth.
“Well, I’m sorry about that, too.”
There was no answer sheet prepared for it as it was an unexpected reaction.
I tried to hide my embarrassment and just said anything in mind.
“You didn’t do anything wrong, so why apologize?”
The reaction from Davan was firm.
All of a sudden, one side of my heart was pounding.
“That…”
Once I panicked, I usually made silly mistakes one after another.
But I was determined not to show my stupid side to anyone.
Especially, I promised myself that I would never show it in front of Davan.
But I couldn’t speak at all.
“…”
Davan just stared at me like that.
My lips, which had twitched several times, opened up little by little just then.
“Honestly, I was scared.”
There was no prepared word or answer sheet suitable for the situation.
I had no choice but to say whatever came to mind.
“I was the first to hear the strange sound. I kept hearing it over and over again.”
I was someone out of this world.
I felt uneasy all the time as if I were a person who could not be missed in the peaceful space before me.
That’s why I might have become sensitive to strange noises that only my ears could hear.
“That’s why I tried to attract attention first.”
Everyone was calm except for me.
The relaxed appearances made me more and more anxious.
So much that I had to draw them around in some way.
“I…”
My pride was hurt.
“I have nothing.”
It was not until then that I could spit it out. My true feelings that I desperately hid.
Living as Leah Prezis, I tried not to show morbid weakness…
I never thought I’d get caught by Davan.
However, I felt relieved after spitting it out like this.
“…”
I could feel Davan’s gaze touching my cheek.
He looked at my face without saying a word. I had no idea what those blue eyes were thinking.
‘Phew.’
I felt pathetic, so I lowered my head and bowed my head.
I’m pretending to be strong to try to survive, but the truth is that I only have one body…
“Why do you think you have nothing?’
Davan’s sudden voice made me raise my face.
It was a series of shocks.
It was because I never imagined that such an answer would come.
“That’s… ”
Davan’s expression was strange.
He seemed a little angry, but he also seemed to be lost in thought.
“Then there would be no reason for me to be like this.”
He let out a short sigh after a while.
‘…?’
I didn’t understand what he meant.
You’re saying I’m the reason you have to be like this? What the hell do you mean?
As I had a puzzled expression on my face, Davan licked his lips briefly and then closed them.
It seemed like he wanted to say something, but kept holding it in.
“Leah Prezis.”
Then he called me briefly. As his hand was pressing against his eyes, he looked tired.
“I don’t like things that move outside of my expectations.”
Davan murmured, leaning deep in the chair.
“…”
I didn’t give any answer.
Until Davan’s lips, which had been motionless for a while, opened again.
“By the way, you are like that these days.”
His gaze was as heavy as the atmosphere in the carriage.
‘That’s because…I’m not the Leah you know.’
I couldn’t bring myself to say it.
Hello, I’m actually from another world and this is a fictional world. You are the second male lead and I will be killed by you in order to serve the female lead.
So I can’t say I trust you!
“I don’t know what your expectations are…”
Instead, I opened my mouth in a voice that was as calm as possible.
Tuk! The sound of rain echoed through the carriage’s ceiling. My mood, along with it, was dampened.
“But it will happen more often in the future.”
“…”
I didn’t want to lie.
I could no longer go back to the Leah of those days.
At my words, Davan’s eyes slowly wrinkled.
‘What are you going to say?’
Naturally, I thought he would yell or sigh and turn his head away. However…
“That wouldn’t be bad either.”
I could see the sincerity of the words from his calm gaze.
‘What?’
Rather, I was the one who had problems managing my expression.
There was something strange about Davan and the words he uttered all the time since we got into the carriage together.
I didn’t expect that sentence to come out of Davan’s mouth.
“I’m looking forward to it.”
With a strange smile, Davan closed his eyes again.
“What and how much more you’re going to do.”
I just looked at Davan, speechlessly.
‘You seem to be moving outside my expectations…’
From my point of view, it was Davan who was moving outside expectations.
So I don’t know what to do.
‘What the hell is wrong with you today?’
My speechless gaze still lingered on Davan.
‘Well, I somewhat…’
When I saw the closed eyes, I thought I could understand a little.
Maybe this is why Leah hasn’t given up after 8 years.
I’d rather just let him hate me to the bone and stopped caring at all.
This kind of ambiguous kindness was even more annoying.
The act of changing the cup naturally when Cadel recommends alcohol, and sharing all of Leah’s tastes and memories.
Above all, whenever I was embarrassed, the first person my eyes met was Davan.
‘That’s the cruelest thing.’
My gaze floated across Davan’s face. The phrase “a cruel man” came to mind.
