I’ll Just Live As A Villain - Chapter 15
Harry swept his hair in a fitful manner as he watched the Wyvern strutting about all kinds of starfish.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, but I feel like I’ve been insulted so badly. I can’t believe I can feel so badly about a starfish”
“Starfish. It doesn’t work. Words. A young human. It works. You. Call?”
The Wyvern snorted and leaned toward me.
As it’s big face drew near, it felt quite intimidating.
When I step backwards, It smiled with it’s mouth wide open as if he wanted to reassure me.
‘No, that’s more scarier.’
“One clan. Dead. A lot. Sympathize. You have. Pity.”
The Wyvern’s face was grimly distorted.
I could feel that even tears were falling on his big eyes.
“Child human. Starfish. Stop him. The Wyverns. Listen. Request. Ask. Pity. Dead. A lot. Lost it. Family.”
“Contractor. You can’t listen to him. How can I get rid of my desires?”
“Young Wyverns. They lost it. Mother. They cried. A lot. They are alone.”
The chief of the Wyverns began to appeal to me in earnest to earn my sympathy. On the other side, Harry was shouting I shouldn’t, but my heart was shaken.
‘Oh, it’s hard to kill someone who can communicate.’
Anyway, I was a normal human being with morality.
I could not command the slaughter of the Wyvern who cried tears and appealed to my sympathy.
The conclusion had been decided since the Wyvern began to speak.
The question is how can Harry’s insticts will be filled.
I mean, wouldn’t we be able to find the answer someday?
Just like one day, a plan called the Wyverns suddenly appeared.
‘It might look like I had no plans or countermeasures, but what can I do?’
It was not an issue that came up with an answer even after thinking about it.
‘I won’t be eaten by the cannibal demon before that.’
I sighed and said to the Wyvern.
“Okay, I’ll stop killing the Wyverns.”
“Contractor!”
Harry shouted in astonishment.
The Wyvern grinned brightly, fluttering it’s droop tail from side to side.
“As expected. Young human. It’s different. I swear. The Wyverns. We’ll pay you back. The benefactor of the clan. Young human.”
When the Wyvern said so, he took a scale off his body and extended it out to me.
I took the scales he gave me in a bewildering way. Maybe it’s because he was big, so the scales he gave to me were as big as much as my face.
“The scales of the chief. Recognize. The clans. Loyalty. Follow. Young human. Your words.”
“This is what the Wyverns recognize and follow me?”
“Yes.”
“Do all the Wyverns understand human words?”
“They understand. human words. They can’t. Talk.”
“They understand, but they can’t speak?”
“Yes, smart… young human. A benefactor of the clan. A blue squirrel.”
“Blue Squirrel?”
“Yes, young human. Blue squirrel. A shiny squirrel. A luminous squirrel.”
The Wyvern opened it’s mouth wide and laughed and shouted squirrel.
The tone was subtle, but somehow it seemed to be a compliment.
“……that’s a good word, right? Thank you.”
“Of course. No need. Thankful.”
The Wyvern flew up into the sky, wagging it’s tail.
Before I knew it, the sun was rising from the edge of the sky.
“Time to leave. We have to go. To the south. Far away. I know. Method. Starfish. Call me. Any time. We will come. Gladly. “
The Wyvern disappeared to the far end of the sky, leaving his final greetings.
Harry’s voice rose in anger and frustration towards me who was looking blankly at the sky.
“Contractor! How could you do this to me!”
“You’ve killed a lot anyway. You’ll be able to stand it for a while, won’t you?”
“It’s not your job, is it? I’m the best dryer ever! How could you treat me like this? You starfish!”
“Harry, you don’t even know what starfish means.”
“I’m sure it means something bad, you starfish!”
Harry stamped his foot, shouting starfish.
Harry had a really happy face when he fought with the Wyverns.
Given the pleasure he felt in an instant, he will not certainly like the present situation.
‘What else am I supposed to do with this annoying match?’
As soon as I thought about it and breathed deeply, I could hear a rustle not far away.
Harry, feeling the presence, quickly turned into a dog.
I glanced and looked around.
‘Where did I hear it?’
I know it’s from a nearby location, but it’s hard to know exactly where.
But before I could noticed, Harry was staring at a place with his mouth shut.
It was probably the source of the sound.
I followed Harry and turned my head.
I hoped that it will be passing animal, but unfortunately it was a person standing there.
That too, was a very annoying person.
“Miss!”
The knight coming out of from the nearby bush fell on the tree root. Just looking at the figure, I was able to guess the identity of the knight.
‘There must be only one clumsy knight in the kingdom. No, there should be only one. ‘
If there were two such people, one had to doubt the level of the knights in the kingdom.
“Sir Lionel, what are you doing here?”
I held out my hand to Lionel, who was still struggling and unable to get up.
He hesitated, but grabbed my hand and managed to get up.
“Why are you here? A huge beast appeared in the forest now, and both the Royal Knights and the Frost Knights are in emergency search.”
“A huge beast?”
“Yes, there’s a monster that completely tore apart and kill the adult Wyvern. It’s even more dangerous because the culprit is not yet clear.”
‘If it’s the monster’s identity, I know who it was.’
I smiled awkwardly and looked at Harry playing the innocent dog.
As our eyes met, Harry turned his eyes away.
“So Sir Lionel is searching in the woods? What about the other search party?”
If they had set up a search party to find the beast that was strong enough to overwhelm the Wyverns, several knights would have been working in groups.
A knight in a groups may move by itself, but Lionel is far from that.
I looked behind Lionel to look for another knight, but I didn’t see anyone.
“I was moving with the search party, and I found you and followed you. Don’t walk around in such a dangerous place alone!”
“You’re alone too.”
“Yes?”
“What were you going to do if you met the beast while you were going after me alone?”
“Uh? ..What if I did? They said it’s a very strong beast.”
Lionel opened his eyes with a pale face, saying he hadn’t thought of it.
He looked around anxiously, it seems that he finally figure out the situation.
‘This guy, how did he really became a knight?’
In his dismayed abandonment, Lionel was all alone. With his hands trembling, he pulled out his sword and he began to guard around.
“I, I’ll defend you on the honor of the knight. Don’t worry about it, don’t worry about it!”
“That’s… that’s reliable.”
“Of course! Lionel of the Frost Knights! Will protect you even at the risk of my life…”
I could hear the birds chirping as if to ridicule Lionel’s pledge.
Looking up at the sky, a huge number of Wyverns were flying toward us.
“Aaaaaaaaaah! Definitely!”
At the scenery, the knight shrieks in horror and fell flat on the floor. He fainted.
[Fool.]
While Harry clicked his tongue towards the fallen Lionel, the Wyverns, who diligently flew, landed around me.
The giant Wyverns surrounded me, and I felt a great sense of pressure.
They was smaller than the chief Wyvern, but they was several times bigger than me, a normal person.
The Wyverns who was watching me with golden eyes, folded their big wings and bowed their heads in unison.
It was probably because of the scales that the chief Wyvern give me.
My conscience was pricked by those large eyes that looked at me.
“Uh… I’m sorry. He killed too many of your kin. I don’t even know that we could communicate.”
The Wyverns’ eyes widened as if my words reminded of their dead breathen.
My guilt rose vertically.
I was sorry, the biggest Wyvern in the crowd lowered it’s head at my eye level.
The Wyvern’s eyes blinked slowly, as if it was okay. It was a gesture of reconciliation.
I reached out and stroked his forehead.
As I slowly touched it’s skin, the Wyvern grumbled in a low pitched sound.
It was pleasant to touch it like this.
“Lionel!”
“Are you there?”
Then a group of knights appeared, harming the bushes.
It was probably the knights who grouped with Lionel in searching the forest.
“If you always take that path… …Hyeok!”
The knights who grumbled and chased Lionel’s traces froze when they found the Wyverns filled the space.
Even if they fight with one of the Wyverns, they can’t guarantee a victory, which would be surprising to see dozens of them with their own eyes.
“What is this…”
The surprised knights saved the situation by fixing their sword.
“Lionel? And…Miss?”
The knights who found the passed out Lionel were more astonished and schoked than when they found the Wyverns.
“Get away from them right now! We’ll catch their attention somehow so run away in the meantime!”
The eyes of the knight were fierce as they shouted with a solemn face.
‘Fortunately, unlike Lionel, they were good knights. ‘
If I were a girl in real danger, they would have been reliable.
“I’ll give you a signal! We’ll attack on the count of three, so run straight, miss! Do you understand?”
The knight glanced at his comrades behind him, and they, too, took their swords.
“One! Two! Three!”
The knight shouted at me and ran toward the Wyverns in front of me.
Of course I didn’t run away and stay in place.
The knights swung their swords at the Wyverns. But the Wyverns swung their tails lightly to overpower their attacks.
They was shocked to see myself still standing in front of the Wyverns, the knights were still on the floor.
“Why didn’t you run away!”
“I never said I’d run away.”
I shrugged and stroked the Wyvern’s forehead.
As the Wyvern grinned happily and rubbed it’s face against my hand, the faces of the knights which was in despair become blank.
“Wyvern now—”
“To the miss…”
“Are acting adorable….”
***
“…Wyverns were killed?”
Liddon frowned as he listened to El’s report.
The actual command of the subjugation was given by the Royal Knights Commander, El, but in nominal terms, Liddon, who represented the kingdom, was the head of the subjugation.
The queen’s influence played a major role in Liddon’s appointment as the leader of the subjugation.
Whenever a big and small events outside the kingdom bursts, the queen turned him outside, emphasizing the responsibility and obligation of Liddon as the eldest son of the royal family.
The queen’s ulterior motive was obvious. It was a work to scratch his name.
On the day he made a minor mistake on his mission, he will be mocked and be crushed.
‘When you take a dangerous task, you’ll meet death with a blind sword.’
It was a check that began when he became a young man.
In childhood, he did not know anything, but after his head became knowledgeable, he had eyes to read the situation.
When he saw the big picture, the queen could not keep himself in check so he could see the reason for her impatience.
His position called the enemy.
That was the problem.
Zerette had the priority of succession to the firstborn.
The background of the queen’s family was very powerful that put Cassian in the place of the crown prince, but there were still some forces supporting him, talking about the legitimacy of Liddon.
‘What do they know? I wasn’t interested at all. ‘
Never had he ever thought of being a king since childhood.
He couldn’t understand why they are so desperate for the throne.
But he couldn’t let it go. Because he don’t want to die.
‘ I can’t believe I have to be held in check for a position I don’t want to have. That’s unfair.’
Maybe it was a mistake.
He wanted to survive somehow, take what they wanted and laugh at everyone.
In order to do so, he had to lower himself and endure the day before him.
The same was true of this subjugation event.
The annual return of the Black Forest’s Wyvern subjugation was a very big headache for the royal family.
Since it was hard to achieve remarkable results right away, and many knights were injured and killed in the process, so if they do well, no one can’t blame them.
The arrow of blame was always directed at the leader.
The queen was also very aware of the fact so she actively recommended Liddon as the leader of the subjugation.
He couldn’t get an achievement easily.
But it is very easy to get the blame.
‘The Cassian fanction have now lost their big allies because of the broken engagement to Oberon. He’ll try to knock me down to make up for it. This is a crisis.’
Liddon’s goal was clear.
No knight of the subjugation dies and will return to the capital.
That might not win praise, but it could avoid criticism.
A half-hearted conclusion that is neither good nor good.
It doesn’t seemed bad as it it.
From Liddon’s point of view, it was a perfect outcome.
Then, something unexpected happened.
The Wyverns, which were difficult to kill even one of them, were found dead for some reason.
