I’ll Just Live On As A Villainess - Chapter 6
I was awakened by the scream.
‘Oh, no, is there a real assassin?’
Come to think of it, there weren’t one or two guys who wanted to get rid of Yvesria.
‘Did Catherine’s fish send it?’
It was convincing.
Some of them cut off the timber trade because they didn’t want to see Yvesria, and others might send assassins to get rid of me.
‘I think it’s Luke.’
Sending an assassin would not be difficult for the head of the information guild that dominates the back alley.
I rose slowly to that conclusion.
I didn’t feel particularly threatened.
‘The Wizard of the Blue Flame is my pet dog. What am I worried about? All I have to do is make a wish to save my life.’
I slipped out of the bed and headed towards the drawing room with my feet.
Harry was already in the drawing room, growling fiercely against someone.
The problem was that Harry’s flustered opponent’s face was very familiar.
‘……it’s Emma?’
“Hey, I’ll give you this. So be quiet.”
Emma shook and held the chicken to Harry.
She knows that my room had a dog, so she must had prepared it beforehand.
Harry stopped growling and looked at the chicken.
‘If Harry was a real dog, that would be a pretty effective diversion.’
Sadly, however, he was a demon pretending to be an individual.
‘Of course, he will not fall for the chicken…’
However, after a moment, Harry took and ate the chicken.
“Are you falling just for the chicken?”
I opened my mouth in dismay.
[Harry, are you giving in because of a chicken?]
[I haven’t eaten since you called me, who wouldn’t get hungry at this point?]
[And you eat chicken, at this point?]
[Who wants to work harder?]
[I didn’t know that a demon ate three meals a day,]
[Good thing you know now. You should take notes.]
Harry was absorbed in eating chicken instead of listening to my chatter.
I was about to get hungry, watching him eat the meat so deliciously.
“That’s a relief. You eat well.”
While Harry and I were squabbling, Emma breathed a sigh of relief and murmured softly.
Soon Emma began to move as if she was sure Harry wouldn’t make a fuss.
But it wasn’t my room that she was headed for.
Emma walked toward the fireplace on the other side of the drawing room. After watching the blazing fire for a moment, she bit her lips and lowered herself with a grim face.
I looked at the lamp in Emma’s hand and found out what she was trying to do.
‘Are you taking the fire?’
When she carefully moved the fire in the fireplace to the candle of the lamp, I thought I was right.
‘Harry made a big fuss and I was nervous for nothing.’
The tension was lifted in an instant. I went towards to Emma with a big smile.
‘I’ll ask for a simple snack.’
I was so shocked that I ran out of bed and smelled a grilled chicken that made me hungry.
“Emma.”
“Caaaaaaaaaaaah!”
As soon as I called Emma, a tremendous scream came from her mouth.
“Ahh!”
“Ahhhhhhhhhh! What’s all of a sudden!”
Scream continued in my startled mouth, but at the same time, a voice buried my scream.
There was only one person here who could make a voice like that.
I turned my head and looked at Harry. He dropped his chicken and when his eyes met mine, he became more embarrassed than surprised.
[Harry, did you say “Ahh” or “What’s all of a sudden” to an individual?]2
[tn: in koren, Harry used a startled expression that was translated to ‘ahh’ and ‘suddenly’.]1
Harry avoided my eyes, knowing he has made a mistake.
[……I was surprised, too. It was inevitable. And you screamed, too!]
[I’m a human being, and Harry’s a demon. A demon shouldn’t do that.]
[I think there’s a strange prejudice about demons. Except for being super strong and cool, the demon is not much different from the humans!]
[Don’t brag about yourself in this situation. ]
I looked at Emma with a deep sigh.
Emma sat on the floor with her eyes wide open. She has a completely suprised face.
She must have been surprised to hear Harry’s voice.
‘I have a talking animal. I look like a witch.’
I stared at Harry in dismay.
[How are we going to handle this?]
[Well, let’s say it’s your voice.]
[Would she believe that?]
[Then shall I just kill her? That’s the easiest way. You keep the secret, I get the pleasure. How about it?]
His eyes glistened and the way he spoke were filled with emotion.
[ Stop talking nonsense.]
I clicked my tongue inside and ignored Harry.
As expected, Harry was not helpful at all.
‘Is this all up to me again?’
“Emma.”
As soon as Emma’s name was called out, she was suprised and flung herself flat on the floor.
“Fo, fo, fo, forgive me!”
“Excuse me?”
I squinted, not understanding.
In this situation, why is Emma so nervous and asking for forgiveness?
‘She’s sorry to hear that strange voice, is that it?’
Emma lowered her head in a more desperate voice while I had no idea what was going on.
“I’m sorry! Indeed, I am guilty enough to die!”
‘Huh, what are you guilty of……?’
“That’s not the case. The situation was so desperate that the temptation was too intense. Please take care of it. I will never steal again.”
“Stealing?”
Surely Yvesria’s room was a place for thieves to covet.
‘Anyone can make a lot of money by taking one of the ornaments in this room and sell them.’
But Emma was the maid of Yvesria. It meant that if things were lost in this room, she would be immediately suspected.
‘She didn’t look so stupid to do something that will be found out in such a short time.’
The way she spoke, I could tell Emma has some sort of education.
The troublesome Duke’s daughter was coming, so it was clear that they had attached the most flabby maid in the mansion to avoid being held accountable.
Still, Emma’s attempt to steal something means she’s that desperate.
I sat down and asked Emma, helding her chin.
“What on earth were you trying to take?”
“Please, forgive me. Really, this won’t happen again…”
I raised my hand to cut Emma’s words.
“No, I’m not asking for your forgiveness.”2
Hick.
Emma’s face turned white at my words.
‘I’m sure you’ve accepted my words as ‘I’m not going to forgive you so be prepared.’
The villain’s face had an amazing power to be interpreted as negative words such as intimidation, sarcasm, and ridicule.
I hurriedly conveyed my intentions before Emma’s misunderstandings deepened.
“Just take it, whatever it is.”
“Take what you were going to take, take it. I’ll give it to you.”
“… Yes?”
I looked around and squashed my shoulders. All the shiny and pretty things.
‘But…’
“No matter what you tried to take, it wouldn’t be a worth to me. “
Perhaps there’s a value for the real Yvesria.
Maybe it’s a gift from someone, or something with childhood memories.
However I’m not Yvesria, nothing here meant much to me.
The only worth of it that I could say was that it was expensive, but Yvesria has a lot of expensive things.
‘Giving Emma some won’t make a big hole.’
But what if these things that mean nothing to me, was desperate enough to make Emma do something reckless?
I could have just give it to her. I had too much of it anyway.
“So I’ll just give it to you. Take it.”
And I’m asking you to take that as a bribe and pretend you didn’t hear Harry scream.
‘It’s a very reasonable deal.’
I laughed admiring my own plan.
Of course, this laugh has also a bad effect, fitting for a villanous one.
“Really, you will give it to me?”
Emma asked suspiciously.
I nodded firmly to assure her, and hope rose in her eyes.
“You will really give me a fire?”
“Yes, I’ll give it to you, I’ll give you a fire….”
I nodded my head in a kindly way, and I realized something was wrong.
“What? Fire?”
Not paintings, not silver candlesticks, not jewels, but fire?
“Fire is what Emma trying to steal?”
When I looked at her, asking back several times in bewilderment, Emma’s hope quickly went out of her eyes.
“I can’t do that either.”
Her shoulders drooped with a very sullen face.
I was dumbfounded to see Emma giving up in a flash.
It was absurd that she came to steal the fire and apologized for it as if she had been found guilty of death.
“You’re sorry again. Why didn’t you just tell me if you came here because you needed a fire? I thought you were here to steal some jewelry.”
I picked up the lamp and candles when Emma was surprised.
When the candle was lit and put into the lamp, the fire burned brightly and lit up the darkness.
“Come on. Take it.”
I handed Emma the lamp.
But somehow she didn’t reach out.
“You said you came to get the fire?”
“But…Are you giving it to me this easily?”
“Of course. It’s just a fire, isn’t it?”
“But it’s a mysterious fire that burns black wood.”
“But it’s just a… a fire.”7
Giving some of it to someone didn’t mean that my share will diminish or disappear.
If I have something that anyone needed, I will give them as much of it as they wanted.
“But during the day, the butler took the fire away, saying he would hand it out to the people. What about that?”
“The Baron ordered that the fire will not be sent out of the mansion. Even within the mansion, maids like me couldn’t get close to the fire because they only distributed it to the places where it was necessary.”
I could roughly see how things were going.
The Baron is in complete control of the fire, so Emma is trying to take the fire from my room where she can enter without being alerted.
‘The question is why the baron tries to control the fire.’
No matter how much I thought about it, I couldn’t understand it.
‘Wasn’t it’s good to give out the fire and keep all the people in the land warm.’
It was originally said that the nobles did not share what they own with someone lower than them but the Baron did not appear to be such a man.
‘So there must be a reason. But is that more important than freezing your people to death?’
I tried to think for a moment, but I couldn’t tell the complex ideas of a man who managed an estate.
I gave up thinking of it and stood up with the lamp.
“Get up, Emma. Let’s go right now.”
“Where?”
“Where? It’s where you needed the fire.”
“Where fire is needed…”
“The baron didn’t order me to take the fire out of the mansion”
I smiled and shook the lamp in my hand.
“It’s my fire, so it’s my decision no matter what I do with it. Instead, please forget what Emma saw and heard today. What do you think?”
“What I see and hear today?”
“Yes, everything.”
Emma nodded slightly, hesitating for a moment as I glared at Harry.
It was the conclusion of the deal.
***
Emma looked uneasy as she left the mansion.
“I don’t know if this is really okay. The baron absolutely said no…”
“Emma, you’re not a person who hid in the drawing room to take the fire first.”
“…it’s just a little stealth entry.”
“People said they were hiding.”
“That’s another thing, but…”
I have reached the entrance to the mansion while Emma was mumbling.
After the baron’s order, a knight in uniform was guarding the entrance more strictly.
Emma’s face darkened when she found him.
“There’s also a guard.”
She whispered carefully behind my back.
“I’m sure. The baron gave him an order.”
“If I have a fire, they will never let me out.”
“Well, how did Emma get out of here?”
Emma opened her mouth and mumbled at my question.
“Well, there’s a dog hole that only servants know.”
“A dog hole. It’s not very attractive.”
Why am I using that instead of the big and comfortable door?
I walked proudly to the entrance.
“Oh, miss!”
Emma swallowed her scream and followed me.
“What are you going to do?”
“What am I going to do? We’re going outside.”
“The entrance is guarded by the knight, right?”
“Yes, I can see it.”
“If you’ve seen it and you’re going to be so confident…”
“What’s going on?”
Emma was pounding her chest in nervousness when the knight who was guarding the door came to us.
‘He looks very blurry for a knight.’
He had such a weak impression that I wondered if he could wield a sword properly.
‘A typical extra .’
I froze so hard that I left Emma staring at me behind, and greeted the knight calmly.
“I’m going through a lot until late. “
“..Miss?”
The knight who belatedly confirmed my identity greeted me with a look of surprise.
To be startled at the mere sight of my face, it seems that he had heard my notoriety.+

I gave a courtesy to the knight at the gate.
“I have to go for a walk, so open the door.”
“A walk? This night?”
“Yes, a walk. This night.”
