Immortal Devil Transformation - Book 16: Chapter 76: Still Alive
Thousand Devil Nest’s Devil Eye Flowers bloom in the spring, while the fruits that are produced in the summer will split open again, scatter out many fine seeds, and then start another cycle in the fall.
When the fruits split open and the Devil Eye Flowers that covered the mountains and plains looked like matured sesame seeds, the stalks and seed pods would all appear a bit dried up. There wouldn’t be much of a beauty aesthetic.
A red robed Divine Adjudicator patrolled the flower fields one after another just like before.
Suddenly, an expression of shock and confusion filled his face.
He saw three unfamiliar figures appear in his line of sight.
This entire mountain slope that used to belong to Thousand Devil Nest during Li Ku’s period was now a restricted area. After Purgatory Mountain took over Thousand Devil Nest, these slopes that were full of Devil Eye Flowers were guarded even more heavily. How could unfamiliar people suddenly appear here?
This red robed Divine Adjudicator sensed danger. He immediately shouted out, but he discovered that no one responded to his orders.
“I heard that for the sake of instilling fear, you found some excuse to publicly whip several slaves to death after being put in charge of these flowers.”
He heard an extremely serious female voice. “That is why you can either kill yourself, or you can be killed by me.”
“Who are you all?” This red robed Divine Adjudicator finally saw the other party’s face. He thought of a certain possibility, a trembling question escaping his lips.
“Idiot.” What he heard in response was a single word, and then there was a streak of sword light.
The one who spoke and released her sword didn’t have any patience in listening to more of his nonsense. Moreover, when this powerful flying sword fiercely thrusted into this Divine Adjudicator’s heart and came out through his back, only then did he finally confirm her identity. He cried out his last words while in utter disbelief, “Nangong…”
Nangong Weiyang put away her flying sword. She calmly watched this red robed Divine Adjudicator’s blood splatter across the field.
Lin Xi and Qin Xiyue were also quietly looking at this slope.
The two of them also remembered that the Devil Eye Flowers were incredibly dazzling the last time the two of them came here.
Flames surged from the surrounding mountain slope. The fields full of Devil Eye Flowers were full of raging flames, to the extent where even the Devil Eye Flower Field in front of Lin Xi, Nangong Weiyang and Qin Xiyue burned, turning to ashes.
All of Thousand Devil Nest’s Devil Eye Flower Fields were burned down.
While looking at this flower field that was still covered in embers, Lin Xi quietly said, “I feel great pride for Meng Bai.”
Qin Xiyue thought back to the Meng Bai in Jadefall City, thought back to that Meng Bai who tumbled many times after jumping off a cliff. She thought about how Meng Bai cried and ran away after Wenren Cangyue was captured. She also nodded. “I also feel pride for Meng Bai.”
…
Gu Xinyin wandered about Great Desolate Swamp.
There were two extremely long wooden branches attached to his legs. He walked through Great Desolate Swamp as if he was walking on stilts. That was why even though Great Desolate Swamp was extremely muddy, his feet were still extremely clean.
His expression was quite content, his appearance carefree and amused.
Suddenly, he stopped and looked beneath his feet.
Several bubbles appeared in the black muddy water beneath his feet. Then, it suddenly bulged outwards. A massive lizard made its way out from beneath his feet, bringing him upwards as well.
Gu Xinyin didn’t feel the slightest bit of worry or alarm under these sudden changes. He instead laughed. His body staggered back and forth to preserve his balance. When most of this giant lizard’s body was exposed, he instead steadily stood on its head on those stilts. This giant lizard flung about a few times, yet just couldn’t shake him off.
“This opportunity really is special! I finally get to meet my Cave Barbarian brothers.”
At the same time, Gu Xinyin said this to himself with a sigh.
Many fine sounds were released in the surrounding Traveler’s Root jungle. Over a hundred strong Cave Barbarian soldiers quickly rushed out from the knee deep muddy water, completely surrounding him.
These Cave Barbarian soldiers all wore fine chain armor, the spears on their backs even more exquisite, these spears even connected to fine chains. The blades in their hands were no longer broken weapons or even wooden clubs, but rather non-standard blades that were even larger and even heavier than some standard weapons.
“Lin Xi’s black market business has already reached this level… all of you are already armed like this! How is Dragon Snake Border Army supposed to do anything against all of you?” Gu Xinyin was a bit stupefied as he said this to himself. Only then did he quickly pat his chest and say, “I am someone from Green Luan Academy… I know that An Keyi came here. Where is she?”
All of the Cave Barbarian soldiers looked at him. They didn’t say anything, instead pressing forward a bit closer.
Gu Xinyin stared blankly for a moment. He immediately patted his chest again. “Do all of you understand the Yunqin language? I… Gu Xinyin. I am not your enemy, I am your friend. I have come as a friend.”
“Gu Xinyin… do not recognize.” A robust Cave Barbarian soldier with a giant bow on his back suddenly spoke in Yunqin language.
“You know the Yunqin language? That’s perfect then. It’s all good if you don’t know me. You know An Keyi, right?” Gu Xinyin was beaming with happiness. He looked at this Cave Barbarian soldier and said, “The one who looks pretty cute, but just seems a bit too much like a bookworm. That girl who always seems to be holding some books.”
“Oh, her…” This Cave Barbarian soldier nodded. “We already ate her.”
Gu Xinyin almost fell off the giant lizard’s head. He looked at this Cave Barbarian soldier and said, “What did you say… you guys ate her?”
This Cave Barbarian soldier used an extremely rigid sounding Yunqin language to say affirmatively, “Yes. Taste not bad.”
Gu Xinyin opened his mouth. The expression on his face became extremely strange.
A rumbling noise sounded at this time. This Cave Barbarian who was talking to him was the first one to laugh. Then, all of the Cave Barbarian soldiers roared with laughter.
“You guys…” Gu Xiyin only reacted after a long time. “You guys were just joking with me? Even you Cave Barbarians know how to fool others and crack these types of jokes?”
“They say you like to tease people most in Green Luan Academy, joke other people. This time they make joke you too,” this Cave Barbarian soldier said.
“Who came up with that? There’s no way it could be An Keyi!”
Gu Xinyin rubbed his nose. He suddenly sensed something while talking, raising his head.
Even more splashing sounds sounded.
Following this noise, massive figures made their way out of emerald green protective screens and appeared around Gu Xinyin.
Giant Lizards appeared continuously one after another, blocking even the already dim sunlight.
Gu Xinyin saw a human figure. His eyes widened, saying in disbelief, “Xu Shengmo, how are you still alive?”
“What, did you want me to die?” The Xu Shengmo clad in a straw woven robe shouted in annoyance at Gu Xinyin.
“Gao Yanan… Jiang Xiaoyi?” Gu Xinyin saw more and more figures on the backs of the giant lizards. He was completely stunned. Then, he immediately understood what was going on. “You already ran over before Thunder Academy collapsed?”
Before anyone replied, while roaring with laughter, Gu Xinyin already leapt onto the giant lizard Xu Shengmo was on, giving him a huge hug. “I should’ve known that you didn’t die! Only someone like you who never lets even the smallest grievance go could come up with this type of prank with the Cave Barbarians!”
Xu Shengmo was actually a bit moved when Gu Xinyin hugged him, but when he heard Gu Xinyin’s words, he was immediately irritated. He fiercely pushed away Gu Xinyin and cried out, “Gu Xinyin, what the heck are you saying? When have I ever been someone like that?”
Gu Xinyin didn’t argue anymore either. He only looked at Xu Shengmo while laughing loudly.
Xu Shengmo became even more gloomy, his face darkening as he cursed, “What the heck are you laughing about, there’s nothing that’s funny at all.”
