Immortal Wife Omnipotent Father - Chapter 2 Billys
Mal used to own a three bedroom house in the uptown suburb of Queens, or at least was paying off a mortgage for, but once he was forced to quite his job, he sold the property and moved all the way across the country to a small two bedroom house in Phoenix where rent was cheaper.
He didn’t own many things, as he was primarily relying on his savings to get him and his daughter through month by month. They had a decent sized tv in the room, which Ether enjoyed watching cartoons on most mornings before school, and Mal also own an old computer which he used to write his web novel on.
They had all the basic furniture, and Mal had large piles of junk and some tools in the backyard he would make into toys and gadgets with his engineering knowledge, but he never earned any money off them and only treated it as a hobby. He also used them to repair appliances when they broke down, the fridge currently holding the record of being repaired three times.
“Papa, hurry up!”
Ether tugged on his sleeve as she was eager for her ice cream. Mal smiled gently and pulled on a dusty hat on his head along with along with placing a wide-brimmed straw hat on Ether.
“Let’s go Ether,” Mal held Ethers small and tender hand in his own, Ether holding onto his finger more than his hand.
Walking outside, Mal used his spare hand to cover his eyes from the morning glare of the sun. Ether was teeming with energy and seemed to be about to run to the family store, but Mal held her back and told her to be patient.
The region around Phoenix was always dusty and outside the city was pretty much all desert with cacti and small shrubs littered about. It was still early in the year though so the weather wasn’t overly hot.
Ether wore a light-yellow small summer dress as the two walked to the family restaurant that was nearly half an hour away. Ether was used to walking this distance as Mal tried not to drive everywhere to scrimp on petrol costs and use it as an excuse for them to get lots of physical activity.
At the family restaurant, called Bill’s Family Restaurant, or Billy’s by the locals, several families were already dining in.
“Oh, Mal and Ether, fancy meeting you today!” An overweight middle-aged man greeted the two with a wide smile, a small pudgy boy Ether’s hand standing next to him quietly.
“Henrick, eating out again are you?” Mal asked back wryly.
“Har har, you know me and my wife, can’t cook to save our lives.”
“Yeah yeah, I know.”
At the same time, Ether left her father and went up to the boy, “Hi, Oscar!”
“Oh, hi Ether,” The pudgy boy nervously fiddled his fingers and was having trouble replying to the little girl.
“Well we have to go, the wife is going to lose it if she waits in the car too long, drop by the yard some time Mal, we recently got a new shipment of scrap in. Come on, Oscar!”
“Will do, Henrick,” Mal laughed and led his daughter to an open table while waiting for the waitress to come.
“Good morning Mal, Ether, what can I get for you two today?” A young red-haired waitress working weekends outside of high school asked politely as she held out a small notepad.
“Good morning, Roxy, I’ll just have a black coffee and jam toast. Ether wants the waffles with ice cream,” Mal smiled and ordered their food.
“Ice cream, lots of ice cream!” Ether beamed and called out loudly.
‘Just the normal amount,’ Mal cupped a hand over his mouth and secretly said to Roxy, who giggled and winked before returning to the kitchen to pass the order on to the chef.
Mal looked back over the table to see Ether glaring at him accusingly.
