Impenetrable Dungeon - Chapter 40
Marcus gazed deeply at the two sleeping women on the stage. They were indeed very beautiful but he had already enough of his share of beauty in his long life. He could even say that he had already seen all types of beauty. Of course, this also meant that he had seen all types of evil especially those hidden behind a facade friendliness. However, that wasn’t why he was interested in the twins. When he had glanced at them earlier he had a feeling that was similar to what he felt from Pharos when he looks at her. It was a very weird feeling that came from deep within. It was like a feeling of familiarity and a kind of primordial fear or acknowledgement that comes from within his blood. It is a feeling that is very hard to encapsulate and explain but Marcus believed that these two sisters would be very useful to him.
“These two twins are very sick and they are affected by a mysterious disease that none of our doctors was able to diagnose. In exchange for their servitude, they wish for their new Master to look for a way to cure their disease. However, I must remind our honourable guests that this disease is very hard to cure. Our best doctors were able to diagnose that this disease comes from their blood and has affected their entire being. To cure the disease might possibly end in their demise,” the auctioneer explained. “If any of our honourable guests, which I don’t believe you are, think that they can simply buy these sisters without honouring your part of the deal then our Thousand Treasures Auction wishes to inform you that we will rescind your rights to them but you will not be refunded! Please think twice before you act!” the auctioneer severely warned them as a cold light flashed in his eyes. Those with bad intentions shivered when they saw this. They could see that the auctioneer was very serious and passionate about this matter and he wouldn’t hesitate to kill as an excuse for taking the sisters back. If the buyer met with an incident while transit then the Thousand Treasures Auction can’t be blamed for reclaiming the now ownerless items can they?
Marcus didn’t care about the auctioneer’s warning. He wanted the girls not for their beauty but for their usefulness and possible strength. This was basically a gamble for him. In the worst-case scenario, he simply had more humans for his human empires.
“The starting price is 200 DP and each consecutive bid must increase the price by 20 DP!” the auctioneer announced.
Marcus frowned as he heard the price. It was not expensive for him but it was definitely expensive by normal standards. This means that the Thousand Treasures Auction had some idea of what the disease may be. This could also mean that the Thousand Treasures Auction is testing the financial capability of the twins new Master which implies that these twins have a very high standing in the Thousand Treasures Auction. Having them will certainly be very helpful in future endeavours.
The other guests kept silent as they refused to bid. Such a large sum was too big for what can only be described as an even bigger burden. Everyone erred on the side of caution instead of taking a high stakes gamble with massive returns. Perhaps if the twins weren’t sick but had a different problem then some would have taken the gamble. However, an illness means possible death which means losing all of one’s investments without gaining anything in return.
for visiting.
Upon noticing that no one was going to bid the auctioneer silently sighed. These two were the little princesses of the Thousand Treasures Auction. They were orphans who were adopted by the Hall Master. They were very kind and helpful and were loved by everyone. Unfortunately, their illness prevented them from doing what the want. They rarely smiled and even when they did it was more of a smile for the sake of courtesy rather than a smile from the bottom of their hearts. The Hall Master was unwilling to auction them off however he knew that there was no other choice. He could keep them by his side forever but they would inevitably suffer and die in vain. He hoped that one of the Dungeon Masters would be able to cure such a disease, unfortunately, that dream will not come true. However, just when the auctioneer was about to give up hope he heard a voice echo in the hall. “300 DP,” Marcus said. He bid a 100 DP higher than the minimum to show his sincerity in trying to cure the two ladies. The auctioneer saw his sincerity and smiled as he said, “Sold!” He couldn’t help but feel sour as he thought of never being able to see the two princesses again however he was happy that someone was willing to try and cure them. Moreover, the 100 DP extra was a sign that he had confidence in curing them. Furthermore, the one who mid was the most mysterious and powerful Dungeon Master. He could sense the cultivation of the other Dungeon Masters even if they were stronger than him due to his special eyes but he still couldn’t see through this man. This gave him hope and so he entrusted the two ladies to this man. Perhaps they wouldn’t be treated well after they are cured however it was a better fate than death.
