Into The Unknown World - Chapter 27

Although the cheers have gone much boisterous than the time when she climbed the stage. Everyone from my team of Mage Division did not mind the noisy cheers from the crowd while Thea abruptly placed her hand next to Cedany’s body as she invoked her spell and screamed, “Mystical healing!”
“It’s really great to have someone from the gemstone class to cast healing magic!” she said.
“Yeah! You should’ve seen her watching so worried sick about you!” Roe replied teasing Thea.
Thea did not respond to his taunting, but Arabella walked up to us, removed her protruding hat, positioned her hands on her waist, and started looking at Cedany furiously.
“You are a fool, really. Changing your magic wand with that big sword? How could you possibly—?
“Bella!—”
Arabella lifted her hands to Pomell, who was attempting to stop her.
“I’m not done with—! Ugh. No matter how desperately you try to pretend to be a magic knight! You’re always a wand-bearer. You’re not supposed to be making such thoughtless actions just to impress your family!
“Bella, stop!”
I watched Roe and Pomell stop her to openly express her feeling disrespectfully while Roe turns to look at me, who is also trying to drag me to help him stop Arabella. Cedany bent her head dramatically as if she were sorry for doing something.
“This doesn’t really matter! Oh right, welcome to the group, Ced. I’m glad you’re alright already!” She said before I had spoken to her.
I left the tent after they had calmed down and watched as the other magician knights were continuing to fight. It is a young man with a neatly restrained orange and thick curly hair. Now he’s fighting the instructor who didn’t seem to use any kind of magic spells since he’s not screaming.
“Are you excited to fight as well?”
“He’s also thrilled, I bet.”
Pomell and Roe have followed me outside the tent to check up on the fights between the instructor and the other students. The young man is trying to break loose from the sword who’s pointing at him while on bending his knees and pushing the instructor backwards. He is using an ordinary sword with purple stone at the bottom of its handle. The instructor seems to just balance his stance and did not use any spells yet. After quite some time, the young man challenging the instructor stopped and gestured that he’ll surrender.
The shadow of the night is almost over the sky overhead, and everyone is still eager to fight, but everyone was offered a chance to eat their dinner at the third wall dining hall. They said that anyone who has admitted to the academy will all be given free meals as long as they can show that they are a student.
“Indeed, yes! You always have three options, you should have a thin steel plate, a parchment recommendation by the nobles, or a white cloth also called a seal, “said Arabella.
That’s amazing! Since I’ve been given a white cloth by the professor a while back to me. So, we were currently preparing to go there together. Cedany, who recovered from her fatigue, went with us to eat at the dining hall, and Alvin, who was not invited too. However, I was picked up by Professor Strauss as he asked me to have dinner with him.
“Would you like to go with the young ones, child?”
I know he’s been acting as my guardian right now, but I think I feel like I have to socialize with my soon-to-be fellow students as I feel the need to learn from each of them. Not that I can’t learn from the Professor but I have to act and learn from a kid’s pace too. I mean, I really want this journey to be as ordinary as it can be.
“If it’s not too much to ask, am I permitted to go with them?” I asked him.
“It is. As a matter of fact, I am merely checking on you.”
He looks really upset and flustered, knowing that I can’t share dinner with him. I still don’t know why he’s so interested in talking to me about my magic. Unexpectedly, he let me go to eat with them, and above all else, I feel so terrible, but in the end, I let it go. I hurried and scampered my way back to the dining hall.
When I arrived at the door and opened of the pub, I went to the counter and asked for a meal and drink, and showed the white cloth that the professor had given me, and then I went about looking for them. There I saw my group and Alvin talking to the other three people who were standing near the long table where they were waiting for their food. Slowly, I approached them and heard that they were introducing themselves.
“I am Oliver Von Cromwell, Muriel Veer Winifreed is on my right, Donald is on my left, and I believe that you have already met Gloriana, who is sitting next to the lady with reddish-brown hair. I am a staff-bearer, as you can see. May we sit down here with my fellow magic casters?
Well, he sounds like Pomell. Too pleasant and very neat and tidy when talking to a stranger. I’ve heard him call himself “Von” much like Arabella and Pomell. If the aristocracy is divided by ranks by names, I think that’s how they categorized themselves. I know only that our former lord does not have a middle name since he is just the son of a baron who makes him among the lowest rank among aristocrats.
“Yes, of course! You may.” Pomell replied.
The boy who introduced himself as Oliver was carrying a long staff with blue crystal, by someone with an auburn hair and a green fur coat on the edges, just like Roe, Pomell and Arabella, indicating that they were also noble. Next to his right is Muriel, a black jet-haired lady wearing a white coat of lustrous grey fur on her lower edge, which suggests that she’s also like her. The other is Donald, an orange-haired kid who wears a regular brown coat much like the rest of us.
“Thank you. How’s your assessment going? We’ve seen a huge mandrake earlier. He must be a very powerful wand-bearer, isn’t he? ” asks Oliver who is understandably concerned.
“That’s Cedany but she’s a magic knight.” Roe happily answered.
“Ah! Apologies. Who might this be?”
Prior to me, arriving everyone was able to introduce except me.
“He’s called Twig and he doesn’t want to reveal his weapon until his match. Right, pal?”
“Right. A pleasure to meet you.” I slightly bowed my head as a respect to his name.
“Please, please. In here, we are all equals. We just want to get to know all of you as Gloriana said your party has strong and powerful magic casters and, as we’ve seen before, we’ve been impressed by the giant mandrake.”
“You did?” asked Arabella.
“I sort of told them, yes.” she chuckled.
“My … sister has a remarkable talent. S-she can … ff-feel the raw mana of an… m-magical being like w-wizards. The closer she gets, the better she can discern,” she responded, stammering.
“Thea!”
“S-sorry!”
Oh! Just like the wizard who attacked the new lord. He can also feel how powerful the wizard is.
“It’s fine.”
The two companions of Oliver are silent, but they listen attentively. I wonder what kind of weapons these two have. I mean, they seem to me to be ordinary. Although it’s rude to look for someone’s weapon, I tried to check it out and asked Sprigg to do it, but she couldn’t see the weapons hidden under their coats.
“How is your assessment?”
Pomell finally asked again, but a beautiful lady came up to us and brought a cart filled with food for all of us. They were opulently expensive soup and pieces of bread with a bizarre drink that tasted like a boiled leaf.
Is this how these people eat every day? I thought.
“It’s all reasonable. More than half of us have already been able to take the exam. I assume this is going to be completed soon. Anyway, let’s dig in.”
So, happily, we enjoyed our meal and talked more about ourselves and our magic weapons. As I hoped, you can really learn a lot from observing people, and they happily provide all the knowledge I need by having a conversation with them.
Although it was partly different from what Sprigg had told me, it seems that every magic weapon had its own magical inclinations, such as Magical Energy Manipulation, Protection Magic, Conjuration, Divination, Enchantment, Illusionary Magic, Nature Magic, Necromancy, and Transmutation Magic.
“… and any magic caster could use one or two natural elements in each form, except Nature Magic, where they can practice intermediate or specialization skills with their inborn elements. In any case, the classification of weapons depends on what the mage’s inclinations are,” said Oliver, who probably enjoys the discussion with them.
