Into The Unknown World - Chapter 31

“Is he also using an element manipulation specializing in wind magic?” I asked.
“Wrong!” Roe replied, then faced Oliver and asked, “What do you think about that?”
“If he’s not an element manipulator, is he—”
“Advance magic. Weather manipulation!” said Arabella, addressing his query.
“You heard it right, Oliver! He has never used that kind of magic ever since we were kids and him… well, let’s bear witness how he fights.” Roe responded very regrettably as if he were reminiscent of something bad that had happened.
I focused my attention on Pomell, who is attempting to raise his hand while holding his large staff and yelled, “Lightning prison!”
Since it’s evening, the build-up of bad weather isn’t noticeable to our naked eyes, but I can see through the mana that pervades it and everything condensed, and instead of just rainwater falling from the sky, the purple and blue bolts of lightning landed on the ground that surrounds the elevated platform at the same time. Perhaps the lightning magic isn’t stable, it doesn’t seem to linger, but it reaches the same spot it struck. Somehow, with this force, it can be said that he may seem to be stronger and more powerful than the wizard who assaulted the new king. It’s spectacular.
“Gale blades!”
On the other hand, while the instructor kept hitting the lightning that was heading his way, the magic of the lightning did not budge. I reckon Pomell takes this battle very seriously. I don’t see why these people get so formidable that they’re really baffling Sprigg. I know why she’s been so silent and trying to understand us, but this only makes absolute sense if all these students can become very powerful and dangerous, that means there’s also some just like them and that can be a potential threat to us.
“Impact shield!”
Just as the instructor was caught red-handed by the flickering light, his broad sword had to be dropped and he growled invoking the spell. Unlike the magic I viciously attacked the instructor, Pomell’s attack doesn’t produce smoke, so we can all watch the instructor continue to protect himself against the blueish purple lightning. It’s entertaining and terrifying at the same time. However, there is a delay in Pomell’s attack. It might be as powerful and dangerous but if the instructor notices that it’s the end of the match.
Although the instructor is repressed on the ground, he holds tight to the handle of his broad sword as the mana disturbance accumulates. It’s like it strengthens his defensive power, but he invoked another enchantment, “Come forth tornado blades!”
As the wind tornado blades start forming, the bolts of lightning are already slowly moving away from the instructor, and extremely strong winds are spiralling around him as the centre. Pomell withdrew the lightning while the strong winds kept the instructor inside.
“atmospheric pressure is collapsing, Master!”
I took a deep breath, grinned and sent a mental confirmation to Sprigg that I also noticed that the above disturbance was being manipulated and drastically changed almost at the same time as water magic. It’s how Sprigg and I manipulate the ice crystal forming on a particular area, but this is on a larger and more widely dispersed level. So this is how he manipulates the weather, huh. Let me see, he uses the instructor’s winds to boost his magic. Why don’t we send a little help? I also have to make a specific note about this.
“Everyone get down!” Roe exclaimed.
“What are you talking about—?” I grabbed the Arabella and Thea who are next to me and docked.
The wind tornado ended up getting bigger and denser, while Pomell spontaneously incorporated water into the instructor’s fluctuations of mana and screamed his spell.
“Ice Blizzard!”
It seemed as though the winter has already arrived sooner in the centre of the academy slashing over the premises where Pomell was suspended in the air waving his right arm. When he was able to complete the decrease in temperature, he pointed the staff to the instructor and a row of frozen tiny droplets hailed him, but —
“Impact Shield,” the instructor hurriedly concocted his defensive spell, producing a small frost protection dome that encapsulated him.
Pomell plummeted to the ground, as he calmed down the snowstorm he summoned to attack the instructor. Little did he know that the instructor crawled outside his wind magic leaving the buried sword’s spell active the moment he invoked it. As Pomell unhurriedly nearing the instructor’s barrier, he received a small and sharp blade in his neck.
“that would be a very dangerous and unpredictable spell, young wizard!” he said as a sign of the end of the battle.
Everyone applauded the fight because it was both spectacular and downright dangerous. The instructor continues to remain the victor, though. Thea also carried out her assessment as soon as she was able to support and heal each apprentice. That must be why Thea agreed that after the cleric, everybody would receive treatment from her. Although Cedany is the only person to be treated effectively.
And as for Donald, since he’s a gemstone bearer, his assessment is more or less the same with Thea. Well, he fought with the other instructor, but he would have to fight in a party of two while supporting him at the rear. His ability was to magically strengthen the power of the other party member to fight. and although they were individually given points as they fought, once the knight inflicted by the instructor had either surrendered or defeated him, Donald would also have the same result. I am told that this is reasonably expected for the assessment.
“May I have your attention, brave young warriors and wizards! The assessment had to stop and be over at this time, but the journey has just begun! Please take a look at the announcement board and check your dorm rooms. I wholeheartedly accept you all, apprentices! May you strive diligently!” screamed the instructor and then walked towards the castle along with the clerics.
Once the instructor finally reached and entered the castle, all of us went straight back inside the third wall and looked for an announcement board to come to check the halls of residence. Cedany and Alvin have both returned to their groups as they are not classified as mage apprentices. They waved away and told us that we’re going to see each other in class one way or another.
“Your spell just gained strength than what I’ve seen somewhere before, did you practice behind my back?” asked Roe, who had been walking right next to Pomell
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, Roe.”
“Right, Twig?! You have a lot of explaining to do, you deceitful jerk!” said Arabella who’s walking in the left side of Pomell fixing her pointed hat.
“I agree,” said Oliver who’s behind me holding his staff.
“Where’s your weapon, Twig?” asks Roe.
“It’s at my back inside the pouch I made,” I said.
“Do it again, please! Make it happen again!” Roe asked passionately, and it sounds like a child asking for something.
“What do you mean to do it again?” I asked scratching my head.
“You can shorten your staff like a little Twig, and you can return it back when it’s deemed necessary. That’s pretty convenient don’t you think? Luckily, it’s been stirring up our interests to see how you’re doing that. I’ve known quite a number of staff-bearers using natural magic practising elemental manipulation, but it’s my first time that somebody who uses this kind of method for their weapon,” said Pomell waiting for my response when we’re almost on the third ground.
“That being said, how did you do it?” said Arabella.
“It’s a secret. Stop pressuring me.” I said and chuckled while pointing to the people gathering in the huge a flat surface made of thin layers of wood with a steel frame and a shed.
“That’s fine! Let’s hurry and then look for our hosts, “he responded dejectedly.
As there are only nine mage apprentices officially documented in this assessment, we were able to find our name easily and discovered that we seem to have the same hall of residence. There is another announcement at the bottom end, however, where we first must get the steel badges at the registrar. We quickly marched our way there and got our own steel badges and then searched for the area where we are staying.
It’s already the eight bell of the evening when we finally arrived at the rows of houses for the students in the academy. In front of us is the freshmen establishment and presented our steel badges to each of the crystals that situated in the two entries, and as the man who was sitting there signalled that we could go in. Although the entrance is divided by two corridors for each gender, everyone is brought to the drawing-room by the ladies in white cloth in which guests can be received and entertained on the first floor. As we continued, we arrived at the second floor, there is a small couch that appears to be as a lounge for the Mage apprentices’ and then comes to the furthest side are the rooms that we will board
“Welcome fellow freshmen. I am the president of this house! May we all live peacefully.”
