Iridescent Spirit - Chapter 55 Moving On
“So, won’t you release me?” Allen Loynd asked. The average looking man with spectacles was immobilized by vines that Iris had created.
After capturing the auction master, Jade and Clara had reunited with the others who left the city of Rukpten.
While the auction master could easily activate his powers and “steal” the vines with his stealing ability, he did not. Instead, Allen cooperated with the children.
After numerous of years discovering and stealing treasures, Allen had become accustomed to knowing where riches and business opportunities were.
And with his experience and instincts, Allen felt that the children would bring him some great opportunities.
“No,” Jade replied while turning to the rest, “So where did Jae, Melody, Natalie, and Bridget go?”
“Bridget was lost in the city, so Jae went to get her with Melody. However, at some point in time, Natalie disappeared from the group. We didn’t even notice that that quiet girl was missing until we got here,” Nora explained.
“I’ll go search for Natalie!” Scarlett declared while starting. However, before she could take a step, Jade grabbed onto Scarlett’s tail, tripping the lizard girl.
“No, we will trust that Jae will come back soon,” Jade replied, “Together with Melody, they should be perfectly competent to find Bridget and head back safely. The same applies to Natalie.”
“Alright, already!” Scarlett pouted on the ground while observing the ruined city.
“Hey, you’re the auction master, right? Aren’t you rich? Why didn’t you help the city?” Nora inquired within the sack. Wendy mouthed Nora’s words like how a certain professor would mouth a kid detective’s words. After all, they had to hide their monster characteristics from this suspicious person.
“Why should I help those corrupt and foolish townsmen?” Allen shrugged, “When I first came to this city to start my auction, they were one of the rare cities that still enslaved anything regardless of race.”
“Just because the city was bad doesn’t justify your terrible actions. Even you enslaved races for profit like those succubi and the water sprite!” Scarlett argued.
“That is amazing, Scarlett. You actually said something reasonable,” Clara sarcastically noted.
“Wait, I’m not done yet. If that wasn’t bad enough, then they were poor enough to be eating their friends and their own children to get by,” Allen grimaced, “When did I ever say that I didn’t help them? In the beginning, I did help them with what little human conscious I had left.”
Sighing, he turned toward the monochome ruins, “I gave them money, food, and homes. Heck, I made trade opportunities on my downtime, but did they actually use them? No! F*** them, I gave up after five years of trying.”
“I never had enough patience to deal with them. I am not a citizen of this city nor am I a saint. Since I have no ties here, why should I help them?” Allen argued.
“He’s right, but something about how he said everything makes me annoyed,” Nora muttered. As Wendy did not lip sync with those words, Allen became confused by where the voice stemmed from.
“Yeah! He’s shady!” Scarlett knocked her fists onto his head.
“Ow,” Allen’s glasses dropped from his face and shattered on the ground. However, those glasses were not to correct his sight but to see the amount of luck one had.
From everyone in the group, Allen noticed that Scarlett and Wendy had the greatest luck while Jade had the least.
Supposing that Jae was here, then Allen would have seen one of the most misfortunate humans in the country. And once he did, Allen would have run away from the continent to not be swept within Jae’s consequences.
However, Jae was not here when the lenses broke and now, Allen blindly trusted the opportunities that Scarlett would bring.
“Jae!” Scarlett’s imaginary dog ears perked up at the sight of a familiar lanky boy. While half of his mask was broken, the other half of his face was covered by flowers.
Next to Jae was the exhausted Bridget, Melody, and Natalie.
“We’re back,” he let out a wry smile under his mask while glancing at Allen.
“Who’s that?” Jae asked.
Jade explained to Jae and the others about who the man was.
Jae nodded as he replied, “One of the masked men had escaped, so we have to leave quickly. Luckily, after we met up with Philip and Lucy, they decided to help us with our endeavors. They’re willing to send us information regarding Sazroth’s movements and the rest of the ‘Skull’.”
After they found out that the demon was missing, the other human knights had arrived at the scene to figure out the reason for all the illusions. In order to escape from their scrutiny, Philip, Lucy, and even the originally racist paladin helped the children out of the city.
“Where should we go now?” Melody questioned.
Jade glanced at the bag that Alexis and Nora were in, “We need an alchemist to fix Alexis. Afterward, we can find some shelter for a few years to gain some strength and security.”
“But, where can we find an alchemist?”
Rustle. Rustle.
“Who’s there?” Jade called out.
From the bushes emerged several different demons. Jae recognized some of them to be the enslaved succubi.
“We wanted to thank you for freeing them before we head North,” a robed woman stepped forward. Removing her hood and mask, she revealed a violet face with three eyes. Five petite horns curled onto her forehead.
Jae recognized the woman was the same one who tried to buy the succubi slaves during the auction, but her money was inadequate compared to the buyer.
Thanks to Jae releasing the succubi and other slaves, they did not have to perish under the explosions and collapse of the dome.
Next to them was the demon whose legs were fractured and the one Jae had tried to save.
“So you escaped from the knights, huh,” Jae spoke with surprise.
“Yes, I really appreciate your efforts,” the demon with fractured legs thanked. He was currently being supported by one of his demon allies, “If you ever visit us up north, our Lord will welcome you with open arms.”
“Uh, thanks?” Jae replied while a demon handed him a token. Five eyes were engraved onto the disturbing face of a cruel monster.
“Show that to our Lord and he will grant a satisfactory reward. Please, continue to not discriminate against demons,” the woman bowed.
Jae shook his head, “No, I didn’t do much for that.”
“Either way, the northern demons welcome you and your companions as long as you remain against the demon lord Sazroth,” the woman glanced into the distance, “We must leave now. While the northern paths are closed, there is one more way to bypass the dwarven mountains.”
While wary of Allen, the demoness touched Jae’s forehead and sent information on the path to the North.
“Wait! You people are cooperating with the demons?” Allen yelled in astonishment. If they discovered that he was the auction master, then they would torture him in the worst ways possible for what he had seized from them in the past years.
“No, we are only against Sazroth. No matter who they are, if they’re an enemy of our enemy, then they could become our ally,” Jae answered.
“By the way! He’s the auction master who took your kin and sold them off! Do you want me to sock him?” Scarlett exposed Allen immediately.
“I see,” the woman indifferently spoke. However, if one were to observe their eyes, then they would notice she was seething in fury.
“Wait, wait, wait!” Allen cried out. While he could undo the vines and run, a human like him could not outrun a demon like that woman. With the number of horns the woman had, he could tell that she had high status and strong lineage.
“Your group needs an alchemist for some reason, right? I can take you to one!” He declared.
“Nice offer, but it depends on the demon’s reply. I sympathize with those who were enslaved,” Melody flicked the man’s forehead.
“We are fine with leaving the man in your hands,” the demoness responded, “If he could help you, then we won’t kill him.”
“For now,” she narrowed her eyes at the man.
The demons nodded as they stepped into the shadows. Before the demoness left as well, she said to Jae, “I hope to see you soon, the one who the candleman entrusted a last will to.”
“Alright, so fork out all the information about the alchemist,” Scarlett cracked her knuckles in front of Allen.
Rapidly nodding, Allen spilled the information under the children’s watch.
Soon, the children departed from the area, leaving the destroyed city behind.
On their way out, a blue outline entered Natalie’s bag without anyone noticing.
——–
In a desolate room, a woman with silky black hair and a waxy complexion sat on a wooden chair. A black dress wrapped around her voluptuous body tightly while a veil of the same color covered her face.
Similar to Mr. Angel that Natalie had encountered, the woman had no whites in her eyes. Instead, they were a pitch black. However, unlike the angel, the woman did not have tiny sparkles like the galaxy within those black orbs.
Within her right hand was a photo. Meanwhile, a tiny crystal bottle filled transparent liquid was in her left hand. A red cherry was suspended within the bottle.
Observing those two items, the woman had a gentle expression emitting warm and kindness.
But, all of a sudden, she threw the photo away and stood.
Walking to the window, she held the bottle in front of the full moon as she laughed with glee and madness.
It was time to change the world.
