Iron Empress - Chapter 4 Bloodbath
The sun began to rise as the birds began to chirp away nestled in their respective trees. Mei opened her eyes and walked near the river to wash her face, she cupped the water and threw it directly to her face before going back to their mini camp to wake up Ren.
“Wake up, it’s morning already” – Mei
“Ughhhhh, one more minute” – Ren
Hearing this, Mei went back to the river and cupped a pool of water on her palms before running back and splashing it towards Ren’s face. The cool sensation made Ren flinch upwards to dry her face.
“T_T you’re so mean Mei” – Ren
“Enough chit chat, let’s get out of this forest as quick as possible” – Mei
They both secured their belonging to their waist while they refilled their bamboo canteen with water before setting off north. They walked with medium pace observing their surroundings very carefully to avoid being assulted by monsters that may inhabit this dense forest.
Taking breaks every hour, Mei took this time to train her body which Ren soon followed in doing. They continued to do this for 5 hours with no obstacles that blocked their way.
Just as they were about to rest on the sixth hour, they were surrounded by a group of wolved with blood red eyes. Mei immedietly unsheathed her sword and resumed a battle stance while Ren stood behind Mei holding a long stick she found a while back.
Both parties were entered in a staring contest for a few minutes before a wolf jumped and dashed towards Mei. Mei did not panic at the sight of this and calmy stood in place waiting for the wolf to enter her range before slashing in a clean manner causing the wolf to be split in half.
Seeing this scene, the wolves were angered and all of them leaped to wards both of the girls only to be surprised by the swordsmanship of Mei. She fluttered around the ground as if she was levitating while calmy swinging her swords and cutting up the wolves one by one.
Ren on the other hand was swinging her staff around which hit some of the wolves and detered the others.
The bloodbath continued untill there was countless bodies of wolves around to which the remainder of the pack took as a sign of defeat and left swiftly, scattering themselves in all directions.
Seing that there was no more signs of the wolves, Mei immedietly kneeled down and coughed up blood to the ground. She had exerted herself and now she was facing the concequence, her breathing was irregular and she needed to calm herself and control her breathing.
She sat in a lotus form and cupped her hands in her abdomen and went into a meditation state, she stayed like that for about 5 minutes before standing up and observing her surroundings.
Her hands shook as she looked upon the corpses which she had made, it was the first time she has taken a life. She reassured herself that it was self defence but the act of it still lingers to her mind, causing her to ask herself whether she will be able to do the same thing if it was humans who attacked her instead.
Ren who had been standing beside her was also shaking but she looked at Mei while saying:
“We need to leave this forest before the sun falls” – Ren
“Hnn” – Mei
Mei just gave a soft nod and they resumed their pace. After another hour, they finally saw the forrest thin and soon began to see roads which made them excited as they followed where the road would take them to.
