- Book 6: Chapter 43:1: One Goddess Causing Many Problems, Part 1
Soon, the suction stopped pulling on the adventurers. However, as they were already floating, they crashed onto the city walls when the suction vanished.
Chen Heng intervened to prevent the innocent adventurers from being pulverized by the black hole; he had set up a massive attraction barrier in front of the city walls.
This barrier wrapped around the wall facing the black hole, ensuring that as long as the adventurers stayed within its confines, they would be safe from the black hole’s pull.
While Chen Heng protected the city, he had neither the time nor the inclination to shield the surrounding mountains and trees.
The vicinity of the black hole witnessed everything getting sucked into its void: trees, rocks, monsters—nothing escaped its pull. Everything floated up and flew toward the black hole.
It was not just physical objects, but even light became trapped; the black hole twisted light, making the surroundings ominously dark, painting a picture reminiscent of the end of the world.
The colossal Destroyer below the black hole was the closest thing to it and suffered the worst from the suction.
Despite the Destroyer’s immense size and weight, it couldn’t resist the black hole’s suction after the black hole grew larger and the suction intensified. The Destroyer floated up, moving toward the black hole.
“It’s the end of the world! Run!”
“So terrifying!”
“What on earth is that?!”
Those unaware of the situation abandoned the walls when they witnessed the horror, running as far from the black hole as they could.
Although they did not know why everything behind the city walls was not affected, they guessed a powerful wizard was behind it.
However, while it looked safe, what if that mage lost control?
The adventurers were not foolish, and they were not used to trusting their lives to someone else. When encountering this kind of situation, the best option, of course, would be to run as far away as possible. Protect the city? How silly! With the city’s two primary damage dealers rendered hors de combat—Megumin was out of mana and Wiz wasn’t much better—the situation looked dire.
Furthermore, this black hole seemed even more terrifying than the self-destructing Destroyer.
Soon, only Satou Kazuma’s party and a lich named Wiz remained by the city wall.
“Big-Big Brother, did-did you make that?” Satou Kazuma trembled as he pointed at the horrifying black hole.
“That’s right. What about it?”
“It’s a black hole! A black hole!”
“It’s indeed a black hole. I made it.” Chen Heng appeared nonchalant as he looked at Satou Kazuma with disdain.
Isn’t it just a black hole? What’s so scary about it?
“Big Brother, how can you sound so casual? This is a black hole! Furthermore, Big Brother, can you control this black hole? What if you lose control and it grows even larger? Then it won’t just consume the city. What if it keeps expanding? The entire continent will be destroyed sooner or later!” As Satou Kazuma spoke, he broke out in a cold sweat.
Had Satou Kazuma known this was Chen Heng’s big move, he would not have called Chen Heng over to help, even if he was beaten to death. Treason against a nation would be better than treason against the world.
As a person from the modern world, he knew the terrors of a black hole better than anyone else here.
“This is not a real black hole, just something I simulated with my ability. I have full control over it. Look, hasn’t the black hole already stopped expanding? Of course, if you want a real black hole, I can give you one. Interested?”
“No! No! No! I’m not interested at all! Big Brother, calm down. Just maintain the black hole’s current effect; that will be enough. Actually, you didn’t need to create a black hole in the first place. The commotion is too big, isn’t it?”
“That’s easy to say. If the commotion is not big, how will it cover up the commotion from when I take the Coronatite?”
“…” There’s no longer anyone in the vicinity. Big Brother, you can already do as you please. Really!
“Kazuma, are we really not going to flee?” Megumin whispered to Satou Kazuma from his back.
“Let me go! Let me go! A black hole? Is this what a black hole looks like? It looks terrifying. If I get sucked in, I’ll surely be crushed into dust!” Darkness, suspended above the group by Chen Heng’s attraction ability, gazed at the black hole, her face flush with a mix of fear and excitement.
“We probably don’t need to run, right? We should trust my big brother. Since he made it, he should be able to control it, probably…?” As Kazuma spoke, he remembered the creator of the mobile fortress….
“Relax! This will be over soon.” Chen Heng attempted to reassure everyone. However, upon noticing their continued unease, he shifted his attention back to the black hole he had created.
At this point, the colossal Destroyer was quickly approaching the 20-meter-wide black hole.
Although big, the black hole was nothing compared to the Destroyer, not even half as large.
Once the Destroyer made contact, it began to contort and fold as if an invisible hand were crumpling it like a sheet of paper.
It got sucked into the black hole bit by bit, a mesmerizing sight resembling a small fish consuming a much larger one. However, no one doubted their eyes.
Two seconds later, the once gigantic Destroyer had been swallowed entirely, yet the black hole remained unchanged.
Kazuma squinted, trying to glimpse the core of the black hole, but it was impossible. Who knows how much more the black hole could consume?
After the mobile fortress was consumed, the black hole didn’t stop. It continued to devour everything around it, pulling in broken clods of soil, large trees, and even mountains, as well as frightened animals that couldn’t escape in time. The surrounding light distorted, plunging areas outside the city walls into darkness. Inside the walls, the day remained sunny, unaffected by the chaos outside.
The black hole was already bending the surrounding light, depriving the area outside the city walls of illumination. It looked like the advent of the apocalypse. Strong gales blew as the black hole consumed everything.
On the other side of the city walls, the scene was the complete opposite.
While the outside was dark and looked like the end of the world, the city remained calm and peaceful, with not even a gentle zephyr.
