Isabel The Lightning Princess - Chapter 25 Doubts
All heads turned in the direction.
“Not so fast” the voice called out again.
It was a man in his late thirties. He called out to them, halting them on their tracks.
Everyone waited as he drew nearer and closer to where they stood.
“Heaven knows I am tired already” Isabel thought to herself.
“All these intrusions and halting. We really need to rest. Its about perfect night time or morning back at home” Jasper complained in his mind.
“Oh Trevor, hurry up, come and meet… ”
“Stay away from them” the man spoke ignoring Phoebe’s words.
This attitude rewarded him with a glare from Phoebe. Finally he got to where they were.
“What is the meaning of this Trevor?” Livia asked with annoyance laced in her tone.
“Its all for our best interest” he said as he quickly bowed his head to Phoebe, Livia and Vita.
“Explain” those words fell out of Phoebe mouth the next second.
“I will my Ladies” he turned to Ariana and Ariadna, “I am sorry but I cannot simply allow for you to go in without making sure you are not spies of Claudius.”
“What?” Ariana and Ariadna said in unison.
“How dare you!” Phoebe yelled.
“Lady Ariana and Lady Ariadna are allies not spies Trevor” Livia chipped in.
“Mum, I am… ”
“No Jasper, let him finish” Ariana interrupted her son.
“Don’t you know who they are? They are the Guardians of Gandera, they have risked their life countless times to protect our people. If there are spies, it definitely isn’t them. You were eighteen when Gandera fell, so surely you know them.”
“Where have they been all these years? They just suddenly show up and you all accept them. Who are the other three people with them then?”
At this point, Lady Phoebe was beyond listening to reason, she swung her fist fast towards him, but he dodged it. Not expecting another attack, her palm landed fast on his cheek.
Pow!
“No matter how many times you hit me, I simply cannot grant them entrance. Where were dey when we lost the king and queen, they ran away or better still, they have been siding with Claudius. What of Lord Gregory and Lord Jamie, where are they. They are all traitors trying to win your heart by pretense.”
Jasper, Isabel and Catherine were already boiling with anger.
What the heck did this scumbag know. As a matter of fact, none of them knew what really happened to the king and queen, none except Isabel and that was all thanks to her gifts, which she inherited from her mother.
The next minute, other members of their hideout quickly came out to see the outburst outside. Murmuring ensued, this was becoming a big deal.
“Everyone, I know you all have your doubts but there is one thing that you didn’t know. We chose to keep it a secret to protect the princess’s life.”
“Where is the princess?”
“Till today, no one has seen her.”
“When would she come and save her people?”
Doubts upon doubts started rising amongst all. These men and women didn’t know Isabel, they weren’t there when she had a fight with the Guardian’s children earlier on.
“For all we know she might be dead” one of the men spat out.
“But the prophecy has never lied. She would still come and save us all” one of the girls said, trying to clear the doubt from their hearts but more to herself.
She didn’t want to doubt, she still believed, it was their only hope.
“Prophecy be damned, she is dead.”
“The princess is not dead” Jasper bellowed.
“Then where is she? Who are you to speak?”
“He is my son and the future Guardian” Ariana said in defense.
“Everyone, please be quiet. I would tell you all the truth now, the truth about what happened on that day, eighteen years back” Vita said with a loud voice.
“Vita” Livia called her name as she took a step forward, trying to stop her.
“It’s okay Livia. They must know in order to believe. We owe this to them, they have stood tall and strong and are ready to sacrifice their lives anytime for their kingdom.”
“Very well then” Livia said and moved backwards.
“Listen everyone” everywhere became dead silent as they heeded her words.
