Isekaid 40ish Man Returns, Regressed as a Peerless 17-Year-Old - Chapter 4.1
Lunch with Yui is on a bench in the courtyard today.
It’s very tasty but as usual, the stares of the boys from the school building are painful.
I told my little sister Futaba “You don’t need to make me a bento since Yui is going to make it for me.” But she forced me to take it.
No matter how much my body is growing, food for two is too much.
I guess I can only do some muscle training to burn calories…..
「You know, I’d like you to take this.」
「A pitch. How nostalgic.」
Yui is shyly handing me a PHS.
TN: PHS means personal handyphone service. If a Japanese reads it, it will be Pih-echi-esu. That’s where “pitch” came from.
It is quite big compared to the cell phone and pitch in my memory.
It’s as big as a smartphone.
I couldn’t own something like this when I was in high school.
In 97, pagers were still in use.
「Since we will fight together from now on, it is more convenient to have a means of communication, right? We can’t use my house’s phone so I asked my grandfather to secretly sign a contract for me.」
「You have a point. Can you wait a little longer for the money?」
I could probably pay for a few months worth of use if I do some manual labor.
「It’s okay. It’s my pocket money but it’s originally my house’s money.」
「That’s even worse. I don’t want to owe something to your parents.」
「I-is that so….right. Yeah, I think you’re right.」
I thought I would have to convince her a little more but Yui seemed to be convinced and nodded with a smile.
Perhaps because she doesn’t have a good impression of her own house.
To be honest, from a modern person’s point of view(or should I say future people?), the lack of a communication device is such an inconvenience especially when you’re already accustomed to smartphones.
It would have been great if we had a way to take care of the contract on our own.
However, we’re only minors who are dependent on our houses.
「Then, shall we exchange numbers? I’ve always wanted to try it.」
Yui turns her sparkling eyes toward the screen of the pitch.
It has been a long time since I exchanged numbers with someone.
I’ve hardly used texting or phone calls since messaging apps became popular.
「Eehto….should we use infrared? 」
「Why should we? Are you cold?」
「No, sorry. I was wrong.」
I see, manual typing.
「Come on, hurry up.」
Yui came to me shoulder to shoulder.
「This is it! I can even email you! Email! You can email me too!」
She was really pushing for email.
It has been a long time since I only used email for work but it’s the latest technology this time, right?
In 1997, email became available on cell phones after pitch, right?
Maybe it was the time when people still had the image of “if you’re talking about email, you’re talking about pitch”.
I miss a lot of things.
