Journey Of An Unknown - Chapter 16
‘Jiang clan must be powerful clan. Well not that I care or know anything about them.’ He then looked towards Xinling and asked her a question.
“Do you want to go the Feathers Peak city with me? You can contact someone of your clan and return home to prepare for your father’s funeral.”
He knew she didn’t want to return home, but he still asked to act as he was ignorant her future. He could not openly tell her that she would grow strong and take revenge on who killed her father.
As expected by him Xinling hesitated to answer as she didn’t want to return to her clan. She knew the identity of the person who had chased them and killed her father. He was a servant to an elder of the clan who was always greedy for power as told by her father. She didn’t think too much about her father’s warning until now.
Xinling thought about the matter for a moment and then came to her final decision of not returning to her clan at all and cutting all ties with it.
“I will travel with you to Feathers Peak city with you, then I will see what I want to do after that.” She clearly stated her answer to Zou Shen.
Zou Shen knew she would work towards getting her revenge after reaching the Feathers Peak city. He was thinking of making her participate in the selection tournament once she fully recovered her strength. He could see the techniques or spells she learnt from the Jiang Clan and maybe learn something from it. Zou Shen just smiled calmly at her answer and turned around to walk back towards the mountain path to resume his journey. He didn’t use his movement technique to travel as Xinling could not use her cultivation right now, not being able to keep pace with his speed.
Xinling quietly followed Zou Shen back towards the mountain path. She didn’t know much about Zou Shen but felt that he could be trusted, as he came to her rescue even when he could have ignored her cries for help.
Once they both returned to the path Zou Shen again started to meditate with his closed eyes. He swung the bamboo stick again to practice his swings. This time he walked to match the pace of Xinling instead of his Instant Launch Art movement speed.
Xinling looked at Zou Shen doing his usual routine. She felt he was surely a weird person, just that he was a good weird person. She focused on healing her meridians as they continued to journey through the mountain ranges.
After three days of journey they came to the end of the mountain ranges path, Zou Shen saw a very giant mountain far in the horizon. This time he was thoroughly surprised by sheer size of the Feathers Peak mountain that it could be viewed from this far away. He knew that size and measurement were always weird in the cultivation worlds but this time he finally saw first-hand example of it.
‘I really underestimated the size of this world. The cultivators that live in this world must be quite strong to survive and live in this cultivation world.’ He suddenly felt small when thought about the size of the world. At least this gave him an answer that there must be cultivation realms beyond the Immortal Realm to rule the Shattered Jade Lands. He had first-hand seen the destruction left in the wake by the battle of two Ascension Realm cultivators.
Now that the world showed its true size to him, he realized that Ascension Realm battles were small and not strong enough to rule this world. Even if Ascension Realm cultivators could destroy rivers and mountains, when compared to the Feathers Peak mountain ahead of him their battle would count as a tiny dent.
Looking at the Feathers Peak mountain he thought to himself. ‘I was right not to take too much arrogance at my achievements, there is always a peak high than the one you climbed on as they say.
I have just taken a step forward and this world has already shown its might to me. I still have a long way to go, a very long way to reach my dream.’
Xinling also saw the Feathers Peak mountain for the first time as she had lived her entire life in the Jian Clan household somewhere in the Heavenly Green region. Her father had taken her with along to travel to Feathers Peak in the Great Red Rain empire. He hoped that she would be able to watch and interact with geniuses and talents from all around the region.
Instead tragedy struck her as her father was killed in battle creating a chance of escape for her. Now she was all alone in her journey to their destination. She was overwhelmed by the sight, but she composed herself quickly, she was a native of this world and cultivated in the methods laid down and accepted by everyone else. On the other hand Zou Shen felt great pressure fall on him, as he was on his own path and was not of this world. This world would not be kind to him as it was to others. No one else knew that only he knew how hard his life was going to be.
He calmed himself and walked towards the Feathers Peak mountain in the far distance. He had seen the city with its magnificent buildings also, but it was just another city to him. It was large to say the least but, in the end, it was just a grand city. The true eye-catching wonder was the Feathers Peak mountain that was imposing on everyone who looked at it.
Zou Shen wondered if the Iron Mountain was also similar or even grander than the Feathers Peak mountain. He would have to visit the Iron Mountain empire to find it out for himself.
Now that he had crossed the mountain range the journey to the city should take three days more, he should be one day early for the selection tournament. He was just worried that the place he wanted to visit might be closed for the duration of the selection tournament.
He didn’t want to waste more days in the in city than he needed to, still if it did happen, he would just need to patient, he had already dealt with plenty of changes already.
In the few coming days, Xinling tried to copy Zou Shen daily practice routine. She realized that she could not emulate his way of doing things. It looked very easy to do copy but hard to master.
Zou Shen was laughing inside when he watched Xinling close her eyes like he did and walk blind. She also fell down many times luckily, she had healed her meridians and had gotten her strength fully back. He did not stop her from trying neither did he help her when she fell.
From the way he saw it she could not fully imitate his meditation but even falling was something one could learn from. Xinling was getting up no matter how many times she failed. Her character was being built to never give up not matter what challenges one failed. Every cultivator knew of this rule, but still many people rarely followed it every day.
On the second night of their journey Zou Shen looked at Xinling, he had recently wanted test out a theory about the Spirit Fox beast clan and if she had their bloodline active in her.
The third day of their journey as they neared the Grand Feathers Peak city in the distance which looked large each step they took. Zou Shen stopped in his path and turned towards Xinling who was still trying to imitate him and failing.
Xinling realizing that Zou Shen had suddenly stopped to look towards her. They didn’t talk at all during their entire journey after entering the path.
“You are still doing the imitating the wrong part of my meditation; I don’t close my eyes and try to walk blindly. I focus my spiritual sense to discover the Qi in the world. I am sure you have learnt of this in your clan.” Zou Shen calmly explained to her his method.
Xinling was surprised that Zou Shen talked to her about her imitating him wrongly.
“I come from a very poor family, all I had learnt was the common breathing technique which everyone used, and I could only sense the spiritual energy of the world like any average mortal. I don’t know what technique you learnt in your clan, but I can guess it is nothing common mortals can
get their hands on. You have a strong bloodline use it, try to sense the spiritual energy around you.
Close your eyes sense the Qi around my right hand.” He made Pure Qi appear in his hands, which was invisible to naked eyes or spiritual sense of people. It could only be detected through items and tools purpose built for the very purpose to detect and find Pure Qi in the world.
Xinling listened quietly and she knew she had learnt much more better breathing technique than what was given to even normal cultivators more so not even known by mortals. She tried using her spiritual sense to focus on Zou Shen right hand, but she still could not detect anything.
He was also sensing the blood flow inside Xinling, he could sense the blood also work to sense the Qi, but it was useless. He could guess she would need a technique of the Spirit Fox beast clan to awaken the true potential of the bloodline, right now it she was not using her bloodline properly.
He did not get the results he hoped for, but he also could not blame Xinling, she was brought up in a Human clan like Jiang clan and not the Spirit Fox beast clan where she could truly learn to awaken her blood line from the very start.
If she had her mother still with her during her childhood, she would be different from what she was now. Reaching the core realm would be achieved at a very young age by her. With the powerful bloodline of the Spirit Fox beast clan and the cultivation methods and guidance both her mother and father would have given her, she would be right now standing among the legends of this world.
Sadly fate had a story to tell with her life. A story of love, tragedy and revenge. Zou Shen looked at her with true pity. This beautiful girl would not have an easy life ahead of her.
Zou Shen removed the Pure Qi from his hand after giving a release of pressure from the Pure Qi. He knew Xinling would recognize at least the type of Qi he was showing her even if she could not see or sense it.
“You have failed this time; without your awakened Spirit Fox bloodline you will not be able to sense this Qi. I recommend finding your mother who disappeared, she will be able to teach you the right way to awaken and use your bloodline. To find her you still need to gain strength, try to get under some strong power which the Jian Clan can’t afford to offend. I don’t know much about the power structure of the world, so you are on your own on this matter. Try your luck by participating in the selection tournament. It doesn’t matter if you will fail, you will still be able to know your limits.”
Zou Shen felt so much pity for this girl that he gave her a direction to move towards, he did not tell her the means to get revenge, just a way to unlock her own strength. If she wanted to revenge or not, it didn’t matter to him. It was not his problem to hold her hand throughout her life. He just hinted it right now to give her a chance to participate in the selection tournament. If she kept on thinking on what to do in the future and missed this chance to gain experience. She would have a hard time in the future.
At least this direction would clear her mind and help her focus her efforts towards a goal from this time forward. He also wanted her to find her mother as she would lead Xinling to the Spirit Fox beast clan, also giving him the chance in the future to meet this beast clan and discover their hidden secrets of spiritual sense. From Xinling he could see the hint of the true power of the bloodline of the Spirit Fox beast clan.
Helping her right now would help him in the future to reach much closer to the peak of spiritual sense he locked his sights on.
