Piece 10: Gojou Sukuna (The Worth of Victory)
by Suzuki Suzu
‘The Beauty☆Angel, worth 100 thousand JP, is being hunted down!’
When Sukuna’s eyes found such a thread on Jungle’s user bulletin board, he frowned. Some completely unknown user was doing as they pleased, giving out orders on the instructions board.
‘Five △’
‘The warehouse in the harbor district was a complete mess.’
‘Whoa, just wow, it’s pretty much war.’
‘The Blues were hanging out all around the area.’
‘The Beauty☆Angel ain’t nothing special, man.’
“Tch,” Sukuna clicked his tongue and flung his PDA across the tatami mats. “Hold you friggin tongue when you don’t know jack!”
A hand reached out to pick up his fallen PDA. The supposedly ‘hunted down’ Beauty☆Angel Mishakuji Yukari cast a single glance at the screen and showed a thin smile.
“Those are words of praise. Good for you, isn’t it, Sukunchan?”
“That’s nothing worth praise. It’s just cheating. Not worth jack shit.”
Sukuna cast off everything to challenge Yukari, but stopped a step away from reaching his goal. That way, with that step not taken, it could still be worth something. Victory won due to a third party’s interference was nothing but shame.
Yukari’s brows twitched, betraying his annoyance. “You won, but you don’t like how? What a selfish child you are, let me tell you. …But alright, let me see. In that case, I have a certain idea.”
“Huh?”
“Have a go at me, here and now.”
Sukuna’s breath caught. Yukari just kept smiling fearlessly.
“If this time you win against me fair and square, without borrowing anyone’s help, those frustrations of yours will all be soothed, won’t they? Or what, maybe you are too scared to go up against someone you can’t win against no matter how you try?”
The provocation was very straightforward, but Sukuna fell for it hook, line and sinker. Picking up the long stick, he stood up.
“Don’t you wail and smear the tears all over your face later.”
“If you actually make me wail and smear my tears, you can take pride in the fact, Sukunchan.”
There was no way Sukuna, the way he was at the moment, could win against Yukari. Still, even if he couldn’t win, turning down a challenge was not an option. Overturning unfavorable odds was exactly what he fought for, after all.
