Piece 9: Hisui Nagare (Continue)

“Nagare, you just don’t make mistakes, ever, huh,” Sukuna muttered as he was playing a video game with the Green King Hisui Nagare.
The game the two were engaged in was an action game requiring players to cooperate with one another. While nothing groundbreaking, it was good enough. From the moment they started and up until now, Sukuna made about 3 mistakes, but for Hisui the count was a big fat zero.
“That’s not quite true,” Hisui replied, never taking his eyes off of the screen. “I am but a human, too. There are times when I err.”
“That doesn’t ring true. Just when were those times?”
“For example, the time when I challenged the Gold King.”
Sukuna’s agitation reflected in his play, adding one more mistake to his growing collection. The character he was playing screamed, collapsed and vanished.
Hisui, meanwhile, kept playing dispassionately as he continued talking, “At that time, I made a mistake. I took a blow from the Gold King and collapsed, much like your character just now.”
He remembered the weight of the Gold King’s fist all too clearly even now. The punch was so unbearably heavy it made the one on the receiving end believe a planet must have crashed into him. If Hisui had had a heart, it would have probably stopped on the impact.
“At the time, I remember thinking to myself, ‘Aah, I can’t win against him alone. I will need comrades’.”
“…And that’s why you created ‘Jungle’?”
“Affirmative. After that, I, indeed, created ‘Jungle’ and gained reliable comrades, such as yourself and Yukari.”
On the screen, Hisui’s character opened a treasure chest. Out of it, Sukuna’s character popped up, ready for action once again. In this game, by cooperating, players could revive others.
“And now, I am ready to challenge him once again. I shall steal the Dresden Slate and overwrite the world. ‘Continue’.”
Sukuna snorted with a smile and picked up his controller.
“Alright then, this time I’ll beat the game in that ‘Continue’ of yours!”
