Kaminoniki - Chapter 14 Chapter 12
It was a long dinner; after the fun at the dinner table, they then went back into the food that they made and finish all quick.
After everything had been taken care of; it is finally time for relaxation. They both sat down on the couch that is sitting right outside of the kitchen and in front of the TV.
“Want to enjoy some quality movie?” Levi asks.
“Sure!” Mary replies, but neither does the both of them wants to watch the movie. They both want to do something other than watch something.
It is an old movie that was filmed during the 1950s; it was about a young ugly and not so bright headed boy whose brain did not function like the rest of the population. He has a problem with learning new things to support him from living; however, an old saying says that when God shuts a door, but it will also prepare you with a window. Even though he is not so smart nor normal like the rest of the people, he is surrounded by love from friendships, family, his surroundings neighbor, and his girlfriend.
When you have something that you can get easily, you will often ignore that thing and look for something that you can’t get your hands on as easy. For all his life, ever since he noticed that he cannot follow up with everyone else’s pace; he starts to wonder why. Eventually, he finds out that it is that his brain works differently than others; therefore, he starts to complain to god that why he has to be this way.
Someday, while he is complaining again to god after his failure on the final exam causing him not able to go to school. A voice rings up in his head, claiming to be the God and it has heard all the stories about his life and decided to give him a chance to change into a person he wants. It gives him an offer. It will trade him its intelligence and good looking face for his feelings. If he can reject all the feeling, he might feel accepts the feelings that are sitting in his body, such as anger, depression, happy, annoyed etc. Within a year, and it will grant his wish to help him to become smarter than the rest of the world.
The boy was desperate for a change, without a second thought he agreed to the God on the offer. He is willing to give up his feelings like love and sympathy to have a good-looking face and a genius brain. Like the God promised, this boy did become smarter and handsome than before.
Once he gets what he wanted, he then immediately forgets about the God’s words that he needs to give up his feelings toward people. After he transformed into a brand-new person, he starts to get a lot of attention from everyone around him. He loves the feeling of being the center of the attention.
From the time he spends with his friend and family he notices that it is not worth to give up his feeling for the smarter brain and better-looking face. Without those feelings, he will not have the satisfaction he always wanted, and all he wanted is the compliments and attention. If he rejects all the feeling, he has for the people who give him that attention he will just like an old wise guy who no one like and most likely be left alone. Once he figured out the pros and cons of this agreement, he then chooses to forget about it; in his perspective, it’s just a voice in his head, he didn’t see no one shows up and give a handwritten contract to sign to agree to all those bullshit offers. He thinks it’s fine to do whatever he wants, there is no one there to control anyways.
He then put all those words from the God all behind his head and went on to his life. Then turn his back on the God and spends quality times with his girlfriend that shows his so much love and attention that she had never done before.
As time went by, his appearance started to turn bad, and his brain does not function as well as before. At first, he did not notice that, but when his girlfriend starts to notice that her boyfriend is beginning to turn into an ugly boy like before and getting dumber than before, she told him what had notice from the past few days. He then realizes that the God he had spoken to is real and then there is a contract, and there is someone who’s watching him breaking all the rules it had setten. He panicked and begs for forgiveness and promise he would not do it again. Unfortunately, opportunities only come around once and when you give it up, there is no coming back. He then eventually returned to his normal form, the same old ugly, dumb boy whose still surrounded by lots of love. When you experience the best life, you will never want to go back the poor life. He couldn’t handle the fact and have a mental break down, and at the end, he chooses to end his life. The end.
When the credits come out after the movie ends and where it said director, the name Darwin is sitting there quietly but lethally.
Levi’s heart shakes a little when he sees the name on the screen. He then thinks to himself for a bit; he knows that this movie was filmed back in the 1950s, and the Darwin he saw before does not look like he is 70 years old, so he concludes that it is just coincidence.
During the movie, he and Mary had done so much. They talk to each other about their dreams, hobbies, favorite food, favorite place to hang out, and all the stories about their crazy encounters. Levi starts to feel different about this girl that sits right by him. Before the movie, he only has a little feeling for her, but after the conversations that they had during the movie little by little changes his mind on the perspective on Mary; he was beginning to fall in love with this beautiful, independent, wise young woman. Even though he still has the mind of enjoying the pleasure he gets from the physical attraction with other women, he now made up his mind about this woman who loves him.
Just like the movie, Levi had forgotten the promise he made with the Kami, Darwin.
The small flame that had little on Levi’s heart of candle is becoming bigger and bigger. It is melting down Levi’s heart, and when the heart of candle had completely melted down that means his life is not too far from death. Just like the boy from the movie.
