Kanzen Kaihi Healer no Kiseki - VOL 3 CHAPTER 21
Chapter 21 – Talk with Cruz
As soon as we were back on the surface, I took a break, partly because I was so tired. I took a bath, ate a meal, took a nap, and before I knew it, I seemed to have fallen asleep until the evening.
“…I think I was pretty tired.”
I stretched my body. I was resting in a guest room at the demon king’s castle that had been prepared for me. Lusha was also given a room next door, so she’s there, but maybe she’s still asleep.
As I walked out into the hallway after I changed my clothes, Lusha came out of her room at the same time.
“You’re already up?”
“Yeah. It’s been hard, and I think I’m more tired than I thought I would be.”
I nodded in complete agreement to Lusha, who told me with a bitter smile.
“I think I’m going to go talk to Cruz-san. How about you?”
”Of course, I’ll go with you. But where is he?”
”Now that you mention it… let’s go to the courtyard for now, shall we?”
Cruz-san’s house was in the mountains, and he seems to like plants. So I thought that he might be in a courtyard with lots of plants. Even if he wasn’t there, I could ask the demon king about it.
“Oh, there he is.”
“Cruz-saaan.”
When we went to the courtyard, we found the person we had been looking for so quickly.
”Oh, Hiroki and Lusha. What’s wrong?”
“I wanted to ask Cruz-san about the magic circle.”
“Is that what you wanted to talk about at Dewey’s grave? Alright, then.”
He readily agreed.
“I’d like to tell you, but――”
“Eh?”
Just when I think I can hear the story, an unsettling atmosphere suddenly flows through me.
“I don’t know that much about it either. I don’t specialize in magic circles.”
“Is that so…?”
Since he is Pino’s master and a skilled alchemist, I thought he must have a lot of knowledge… but it doesn’t seem to work out that way. When I dropped my shoulder dejectedly, he apologized, saying, “I’m sorry”.
”No, it’s not Cruz-san’s fault. I just assumed that you knew it on my own.”
”But it makes me feel like I’ve done something bad… In the meantime, I can try to give just a little explanation.”
“Really? I’d like to ask you to do that!”
Cruz-san smiled and nodded and then said a few words.
“It’s safe to say that no one is dealing with the magic circle. Especially since, the more magical power a demon has, the less they will relate to it.”
“Is that so? I thought that the demons would be more knowledgeable.”
“If you have a lot of magical power, your magic skills will suffice. If anything, it’s the people with less magical power who would use a catalyst to use the magic circle.”
“Oh, so…”
That’s why we’re summoned in the human country?
“It was the “People of the Great Tree” who originally created the magic circle. They didn’t have much magic, so they created a magic circle to make up for it―but they abused it. They mourned it, and their own hands annihilated the magic circle they created.”
But, they couldn’t erase everything. Cruz-san said that some did not stop researching, and some did so anew, as in the human country.
“Those who continued to study the magic circle were expelled from the people of the great tree. No one knows what happened to them, and maybe there are some knowledgeable descendants somewhere. If you want to know about the magic circle, it’s a good idea to look for the descendants.”
“However, Cruz-san doesn’t know if the descendants really exist or not.”
“But you know, if Hiroki used that magic circle―there must definitely be a researcher. Or it could be that he’s advising them, or it could be that the descendants, or someone else, sold the completed magic circle.”
“It’s going to be hard to find information that easily, isn’t it?”
“Because everyone would try to hide it.”
Do you know about the magic circle? When asked that, it seems unlikely that I will get a yes. Instead, it’s more like they will say they don’t know.
I remember the dagger that the previous demon king gave me, which I keep in my bag. Certainly, it would be beneficial in finding information about the magic circle. Because if they have the information, it’s highly likely that it’s from the upper echelons of the country or something like that. With this dagger, it would be easier to connect faces with such people.
“…Didn’t Cruz-san say that he was the great trees’ caretaker? Is that unrelated to the great tree’s people?”
“That’s a good question. But unfortunately, I’m just an elf, not one of the people of the great tree.”
I asked him the thing on my mind, but he denied it.
“Then, who are the people of the great tree? Humans? Elves? Demons? Or beastmen?”
I’d like to know at least what they look like. When I asked him such, Cruz-san pointed to his ears and briefly told me, “It’s an elf”.
“Race-wise, yes. But there are only a few elves who have become the people of the great tree. They were small people made up of a few dozen elves.” (T/N: I think we have one already?)
“I didn’t know elves had such a history…”
“Lusha didn’t know?”
The one who is most surprised by Cruz-san’s story is Lusha.
“If you’re a young elf, it doesn’t matter if you don’t know. There’s nothing to be ashamed of.”
“…Yes.”
“I’m also an alchemist, so I don’t know anything about the magic circle.”
Nothing to worry about and follow through. I agree with him on that.
“It was a very long time ago, wasn’t it? I think it’s more normal not to know that.”
”Yeah, that’s right. Thank you, Hiroki, Cruz-san. I feel like I used my head for the first time in a long time.”
She laughed and stretched her body. Then she took a couple of deep breaths and looked at me. That’s the smile of the most adorable Lusha.
”Hey, since we’re here, let’s go hunting and learn some new skills!”
Of course, there’s no way for me to say no.
