Killer Instinct - 5 Troubling Past
(P.S. This is Before the last chapter)
The bell rang, signaling the end of school.
Shirohana opened her shoe locker to find her daily love letters. She put them in her bag and changed into her outdoor shoes.
As she stepped out the building, she saw people whispering and making quick glances at her. Shirohana sighed.
*Josh has the whole school spreading what happened. Why is Josh still hung up on that…* Shirohana thought.
“Shirohana, wait up!” a girl’s voice called out behind her. Shirohana turned around and saw Miki, her friend, running up to her.
“Miki!” Shirohana said, smiling. She was the only one that didn’t get hung up with the whole incident between Josh and Karma. Shirohana felt a sort of comfort when Miki was there.
“Sorry for walking off without you. I just have so much on my mind,” Shirohana said apologetically.
“It’s fine, it’s fine!” Miki said cheerfully. “Fill me in later if you want to talk about it, kay?” Shirohana smiled and nodded in agreement.
As they were walking, Miki blurted out.
“So… do you like Karma? You are overly kind to him.”
Shirohana blushed heavily.
“W-what?! I-It’s not like that. He just saved me from a couple of incidents and I wanted to repay him, that’s all,” Shirohana said bashfully. She covered her face in embarrassment.
“I’m just kidding,” Miki laughed. “You are so cute when you are embarrassed.”
“Miki!” Shirohana said, with an angry pout.
“I’m sorry, haha!” Miki replied, laughing.
he two crossed the street and reached a three-way pathway.
“Well, I’m going this way,” Miki said. “See you tomorrow, Shirohana!” Shirohana waved goodbye and the two parted ways.As Shirohana walked, she thought of the incident from today.
*Sigh. Josh still hasn’t forgotten that day, huh?*

“Shirohana! Wake up! It’s your first day of school!” Shirohana’s mom shouted as she knocked on Shirohana’s door.
“Ugh…” Shirohana groaned. “I’m coming…”
Shirohana struggled against her tired state and got out of bed. She was pretty excited last night that she didn’t really sleep too much. After she got dressed in her new school uniform, she dashed down the stairs. As she approached the kitchen, a sweet amora tickled her nose.
“Breakfast is ready, sweetie. I made pancakes to celebrate your first day of school,” Shirohana’s mom said as she saw Shirohana enter the kitchen.
“Wow!” Shirohana shouted with joy at her favorite food. “Thanks, Mom!”
“You’re quite welcome, ” her mom replied, smiling.
Shirohana poured some maple syrup on the pancakes and took a bite. The taste was exhilarating. She quickly scoffed down her breakfast and headed for the door.
“Be careful on your way to school! Look both ways before crossing the street and don’t talk to strangers!” Shirohana’s mom said.
“I will, Mom!” Shirohana said, putting on her shoes. “I’m off now!”
“Have a safe trip!” her mom yelled.
Shirohana closed the door and walked out the front gate. There, she found a boy waiting for her.
“H-hello, Shirohana!” the boy said nervously.
“Hello, Josh!” Shirohana said sweetly. “It’s the first day of school. Aren’t you excited?”
“Y-ya! I am!” Josh said, smiling. The two walked side by side, talking about school and other things.
As they neared the school, a lot of fo students were there.
“Wow! There are so many people here! I hope I can make some friends!” Shirohana said innocently.
“I-I hope I can too, ” Josh said softly.
“You will! I will help you find friends!” Shirohana said, assuring Josh.
“T-Thanks..” Josh said quietly.
The school they were attending was StainFord Middle School. It was bustling with students. Gossip and laughter filled the air.
“Let’s see… Our classroom is…Ah…Here it is!” Shirohana said as she opened the 1-A classroom door.
There were about 30 or so students there. They were chatting and laughing about hobbies, love, and all that middle school students talk about.
The bell rang and everyone took their seats. Since Shirohana and Josh were transfer students, they waited by the door for the teacher to come. A few moments later, a short lady entered the classroom.
“Good morning class!” the lady said to the students.
“Good morning, Miss Yaya!” the students answered back. Miss Yaya was a short woman with short hair. She was wearing a pink blouse.
“Today we have two transfer students!” Miss Yaya said. “Shirohana. Josh. Please come and introduce yourself.”
Shirohana walked up to the front, beaming.
“Hello! My name is Shirohana! Kiyoshi Shirohana! It’s nice to meet you all!” Shirohana said with a big smile on her face.
Whispers filled the room.
“That girl is so pretty!”
“I wonder if she will be my friend?”
“Come on Josh! It’s your turn!” Shirohana said, dragging Josh up to the front.
“Um…H-Hello. M-My name is Josh. Somen Josh. N-Nice to meet you…” Josh said in a soft but audible voice.
“Let’s see…” Miss Yaya said. “You two can sit at the two empty seats at the back.”
Shirohana walked to her new seat, with Josh slowly following her.
Shirohana sat next to the window, while Josh sat in the seat left of hers. Class proceeded as normal.
When it was break time, students started to crowd around Shirohana. They began to bombard her with many questions, to which Shirohana answered joyfully.
“Where are you from?”
“How did you get your hair to be this smooth?”
“What are your hobbies?”
Shirohana was the center of attention. However, a certain group didn’t like that. In the corner stood three girls. They whispered to each other while laughing maliciously.
“Who does she think she is?”
“She thinks she’s so great, doesn’t she?
“How about we teach her a lesson?”
Break shortly passed and classes continued. After a long while, it was time to go home. Shirohana and Josh packed up all their books and left the classroom. As they neared the entrance, three girls stepped in front of them. The girl in the middle walked toward Shirohana.
“Hey. We want to be friends with you,” the girl said.

Shirohana’s eyes lit up.
“Yes! I would love to!” Shirohana said joyfully.
“Great! Follow us! We want to show you something cool!” the girl said.
“Okay! Come on Josh,” Shirohana said, grabbing Josh’s arm.
“Oh no. He will have to wait somewhere,” the girl said.
“But why? He’s my friend. I want him to see it too,” Shirohana said.
“It’s more of a girl’s thing. He would probably get bored. We have something else to show him later,” the girl said.
Shirohana was reluctant on leaving Josh. She held onto Josh’s arm.
“I-It’s ok, Shirohana…” Josh said quietly. “I’ll wait here.”
“Are you sure? I thought you wanted to make friends. This is a chance!” Shirohana said.
“N-No, it’s fine,” Josh reassured her. “They said they will show me something too, so I-I will wait here.”
“If you say so…” Shirohana said. “Wait for me, okay?”
“Y-Yeah. I will,” Josh replied.
“Alright. Let’s go, Shirohana,” the girl said.
Shirohana looked back to see Josh standing there. Josh waved at Shirohana. After seeing that Josh was fine, Shirohana followed the girls to the “cool” thing that was about to come. Unbeknownst to her, her school life was about to take a turn for the worst.
