Kiss With Mr. CEO - Chapter 139
“You are finally free to show your face?” Smashing his hands over the table, Qin Chanpu glared at Chen Yi.
Chen Yi had come to the office to get some paperwork done. Unfortunately, Qin Chanpu’s assistant, Xuan Wen, spotted her. He immediately informed Qin Chanpu; Chen Yi was called into his office.
“Is this what Manager called me for? Then I might cut this visit short.” Chen Yi grabbed her things and got up to leave.
“Stop right there!’ Qin Chanpu face hardenrened.
He crossed his office desk to stand before Chen Yi. His intention was to pressurize her but it seemed Chen Yi didn’t put him in any thoughts. Her mannerism was calm, relaxed, and indifferent. She even had the audacity to smile making him feel like he was barking up some tree.
Really infuriating!
Chen Yi raised an eyebrow. “Manager Qin, you do not seem to be happy that an artiste under you got to work with director Song?”
Shocked, Qin Chanpu was speechless for a second before bursting into laughter. “You seem to be harbouring some delusions here Miss Chen.” After Chen Ying’s investment and subtle hints towards her dislike towards Chen Yi, the auditioning team must have guessed Chen Ying’s intentions.
Did Chen Yi really think she stood a chance? Thus he said with confidence. “It’s the artiste I prepared who got selected, not you.” He emphasized ‘me’ as if to tell this newbie if she wanted to get somewhere, he was the means to success. Likewise, he leaned in, getting closer to Chen Yi.
Chen Yi took a step back. Scowling at him, she scoffed. “Manager Qin, don’t be so quick. The official list is yet to be updated.”
When Qin Chanpu’s advances were rejected, he realized it would be difficult to get his hands on this girl. She would need to taste a couple of bitter rejections before she willing came for him. Furious, he replied. “I don’t care what you believe.” Turning back, he took a few papers out of his desk. “In case you didn’t read the contract, the company’s standard contract requires you to accept at least two assignments by your Manager to get your basic income.”
He had specifically prepared high-demand, low earning jobs for Chen Yi. He threw the files before her. “If you don’t accept them, you should know the consequences per the contract.”
Let’s see how you have time to run and wag your tail before audition teams when you slave away all the time doing these jobs.
Chen Yi picked up the papers. Without opening, she bid her farewell and left.
At the door, she bumped into Zhao Hua.
“Watch where you are going. Oh, it’s you?” Spotting the files in Chen Yi’s hands, Zhao Hua took them, turned them over, and laughed. “That’s what you get for trying to be over-smart.” Zhao Hua patted Chen Yi’s shoulder. In a manner of an elder sister guiding to a junior sister, she said. “That’s how we all progressed. It’s silly if you ask me, having dreams that you would sweep the world with your first job. We all had to suffer for countless years before finally hitting our chance, you are no special.” Zhao Hua put the files back into Chen Yi’s hands. “But then I shall thank you for your struggle. Without you, how could I have easily gained the role for the movie that thanks to you again, is going to be better than expected because of the investments.”
Laughing to herself, Zhao Hua walked into the office. Following her was a group of girls that always kept her company. They all kept their distance from Chen Yi. Most likely, Zhao Hua had told them everything.
Chen Yi didn’t put the interaction to her mind. Because in the end, Zhao Hua was going to be disappointed.
Besides, before leaving, there was another place that needed to be visited today. Chen Yi asked around, finding Shen Yue was in her office. Knocking silently, she silently waited for an answer.
…
Shen Yue was busy on the phone. Seeing Chen Yi walk in, her expression was not happy. Excusing the person, she turned off the call.
“What are you here for?”
“Manager Shen doesn’t sound happy upon seeing me?”
Happy? How could she be happy? There weren’t many people who made Shen Yue taste defeat. Chen Yi had forced her to sign an open and potentially dangerous contract under her name. She had taken a great risk. If one-day things blew up, Shen Yue would be head deep in trouble.
In fact, Shen Yue would be happy if she never had to see this Chen Yi ever again. Forget she ever signed that risky contract.
“I’m a person with a strict schedule. If you have something to say, be quick.”
Chen Yi’s lips quirked up. She claimed the couch, opened the files in her hands, and threw them over the table.
“What is this?”
“That Qin bastard wants me to take on these jobs.” Chen Yi explained slowly. “But it so happens, I don’t have enough time.”
Shen Yue’s eyes fell on the job titles and immediately guessed Qin Chanpu’s intentions. But it didn’t concern her. That Chen Yi wasn’t here to ask her to help her? Because that was never happening. But before she could ask her to get out, Chen Yi spoke.
“But what Qin Chanpu doesn’t know is that I have not signed the standard contract. In fact, my contract is quite special. I’m not obliged to accept any jobs.” All of a sudden Shen Yue felt cold. She had a feeling where this was heading. Chen Yi’s smile also grew icier. “Yes, he might not know it right now. But he will. Soon. Once I refuse to accept these jobs. And once that happens, word would go out to my cousin. And Manager Shen can guess what would happen after that, can she not?”
“Are you trying to threaten me? You have a misunderstanding here. Whether you accept these small-time jobs or not, it won’t matter big time.” Shen Yue said coldly. “In the end, you would be a nobody, wasting away your days.” As long as you do not get a place in some production, it’s all useless.
Chen Ying would have nothing to be angry about.
Or that is what Shen Yue thought.
