Koji Fights The World - Chapter 42 Kojis New Attendan
While waiting for the water to boil, the cook turned toward Koji and asked politely, “Prince Consort, what would you like to eat?”
“Since it’s already late in the evening, I prefer a small and simple meal for super. Six pieces of dumplings and some bone broth soup on the side is fine with me,” Koji answered.
The cook nodded enthusiastically. He had worried that the consort would ask for something challenging to make, or a dish requiring ingredients that he didn’t have in stock, such as bear paws. Thankfully, the chef had dumplings premade for tomorrow’s lunch along with the soup. Thus, he could heat them and serve the royal patron in a few minutes.
The cook walked toward the storage array with a small bowl and soup, and he quickly took six pieces of frozen pork dumplings. The man also picked up a bottle which contained the bone broth soup. The chef tried to avoid the harsh stare of Princess Daethix, who relished the opportunity to make him uncomfortable.
Frankly, the tyrant wanted to ensure the cook wouldn’t contaminate Koji’s food by spitting into it or using dirty hands to cook. Thus, Daethix watched the cook like a hawk as he prepared the meal.
Princess Zelea also watched the cook, but for a different reason. She felt jealous of the little girl for drawing her husband’s attention. Also, she worried that Koji would make a mistake in treating the patient if Zelea watched him closely. Thus, she used the chef and his work as a diversion from her real concerns.
Meanwhile, Koji took a wet rag and used it to wipe the blood from the girl’s wound. He paid no attention to the inner conflicts of the other people in the kitchen. Instead, his entire focus was on the little girl’s injury. Thankfully, the cut was relatively superficial.
Zelea noted that the other servants had retired for the evening, and no one was cleaning the floor. And she became tired of watching the cook wait for the water to boil. Thus, she decided to do something about the mess on the kitchen floor. She used her telekinetic power to remove the sharp debris and tossed them in the trash.
Daethix noticed the activity and frowned. She didn’t wish to see little Zelea act beneath her station. But no one paid attention to Zelea, and thus, Daethix declined to speak up and make her sister lose face in front of the two commoners.
Once Koji finished cleaning the wound, he said, “Hold still.” His right hand caressed the girl’s cheek gently.
The servant blushed but remained still like a statue. She was an orphan from Head Servant Hu’s small village. She visited Auntie Hu at the palace and convinced the older woman to give Lin Lin a job as a trainee at the royal palace. The other workers became aware of Lin Lin’s connection to the head servant and avoided her. Thus, no one treated her with kindness until now.
Koji cleared his mind and mentally embraced the Qi Stone of Wood inside his Upper Dantian. He directed the elemental energy to collect in his right palm, and then he sent a sliver of his power to the girl’s cut.
The young servant’s skin absorbed the energy, and her facial cut began to heal.
Koji felt the aura of a new visitor to the kitchen but ignored it. His focus remained on the transfer of his wood energy to his patient. He worried that he would lose control of the flow and accidentally send too much power into the young girl’s body. If this happens, Koji believed that her meridian lines would become damaged as a backlash.
Since this was the first time Koji tried to heal anyone with his elemental energy, he took extra care and treated his patient slowly. After ten minutes, he released the girl’s cheek.
The servant touched the treated portion of her face; it felt smooth to the touch.
“Very nice work, Prince Consort,” someone praised.
Koji turned and saw the doctor who had healed his fractured heel the previous night. “I greet Elder Miu,” he said and cupped his hands politely. Suddenly, Koji felt dizzy. But firm hands gripped his arm and prevented him from dropping to the ground.
“You spent too much energy, young man,” the doctor said knowingly.
“Prince Consort, your meal is ready!” the cook said in a nervous voice. He had prepared the food while being watched by Princess Daethix. Aiyah! His luck was terrible today! The sooner the consort ate his meal, the sooner the mercurial princess would leave the kitchen! The cook prayed to his ancestors that the Prince Consort would enjoy his supper, or else Princess Daethix will punish the cook severely!
The cook brought a tray containing a plate of steaming dumplings and a small bowl of bone broth soup to a small table. He noticed Elder Miu holding Koji’s arm and wondered what happened.
Koji sat down and took a small sip of the soup. Then he picked up his chopsticks and began to eat the dumplings. He was famished and wolfed the food quickly.
Meanwhile, Elder Miu joined the young man at the table and drank his bowl of bone broth soup.
“Should I make you another plate of dumplings, Prince Consort?” the cook asked helpfully. Upon seeing Koji’s hearty appetite, the cook was very pleased because the two lamias stood on the side like predators while watching the young man eat. The chef concluded that as long as his cooking pleased the Prince Consort, the young man would protect him from Prince Daethix.
Koji held up his hand. “I’m full. Your dumpling is delicious,” he answered with a polite smile.
“Thank you for healing this lowly one,” the young servant said and bowed from her waist.
Koji waved his hand dismissively. “We startled you by coming into the kitchen unannounced. Your injury is partly my fault because I was cultivating and forgot to eat today,” he admitted and chuckled. He turned toward the cook. “Could you dismiss the servant early tonight? And have her come in earlier tomorrow to make up for the time?” Koji requested.
“Yes, Prince Consort!” the cook agreed immediately. “Lin Lin, you heard the consort’s order,” he told the girl.
The servant bowed and quickly left the kitchen.
Koji watched as she departed; the girl reminded him of a white hare. He smiled inwardly at the thought. Suddenly, someone pinched his cheek. “Ow!”
“I hope you’re not thinking of something disgusting just now,” Zelea warned him.
“No!” he replied and rubbed his cheek. He noted the irony of receiving a small injury to his cheek after healing someone else’s cheek.
Daethix’ eyes danced with mischief at seeing little sister’s apparent jealousy. She turned toward the cook. “That girl will now become the Prince Consort’s attendant,” she proclaimed.
The fat man’s eyes widened in surprise, but he quickly recovered. “As you command, Princess Daethix,” he replied with a deep bow.
Koji stood. “Thank you for the meal. Good night,” he nodded at the cook. The two lamias grabbed his arm, and the trio departed the kitchen in unison.
The cook breathed a sigh of relief. He had averted a calamity!
Elder Miu smiled as he marveled at the Prince Consort’s ability to heal his fractured heel so quickly. The young man could walk normally after one night of recovery!
When the trio was out of earshot, Zelea immediately stopped slithering. She turned to face big sister and asked, “Why did you make that little girl Koji’s attendant?”
“Are you jealous or worried that Koji will mistreat her?” Daethix replied with her question.
“Why should I be jealous of a little child?” Zelea huffed.
“Exactly,” Daethix nodded in agreement. “The cook has fantastic culinary skills, but he has a bad temper. Koji is a sweet and kind man; he is the ideal master for that girl,” she explained.
The little sister tilted her head and considered for a moment. Finally, Zelea sighed and nodded. “You’re right. That child shouldn’t work for that cook. Koji will treat her a lot better than him,” she agreed.
“Um, could you guys stop pretending that I’m not here?” Koji asked with mixed feelings.
The two lamias turned to him in unison and smiled sweetly. “Let’s go to bed!”
